This word is commonly misused in the situational type. Before a person uses this word, you have to ask yourself if the thing you are about to mention is low probability because if it is, then it most likely is a coincidence rather than ironic. Ironic relates to the complete (180 degrees) opposite of what is expected to happen.

Dramatic irony is when the audience knows something that the characters don't. For example, in Romeo and Juliet towards the end, you know Romeo is not dead, but Juliet doesn't know this. Another example is in the 2002 spider-man film you know who spider-man is, but the characters don't except for the green goblin (Norman Osborne) at the end of the film.

LIFE IS FULL OF IRONIES Dramatic irony: Macbeth thinks the three hags are telling him he will get what he wants, but the viewer knows what will really happen. Shakespeare's comedies are full of dramatic irony. Oedipus Rex is based upon a dramatic irony. Situational irony: (this actually happened): I watched a TV weather forecaster say that we have a 50% chance of rain -- during a very heavy rainstorm covering the entire viewing area. Verbal irony: it's amazing that our leader finished his term in office without telling a single lie. Socratic irony: I know nothing about who Q (of QAnon) is. Tell me who he is and why you should believe his/her claims.

Irony seems to involve opposites. Lately we seem to use it for situations in life where life immitates art, or situations have a common theme. We once saw a dentist and his name was I. Pullam. It was on his store front sign. We said it was ironic because it sounded like he pulls out teeth, i pull 'em. But that is, what, ap pro po? Befitting, comically appropriate?

This word and it's collection has a very tough pronunciation in the american english one of the words that you have to roll your tongue in order to pronunce it correctly. Ironically i've heard it used the same way as sarcastically.

It's also ironic that the wealthiest pay the lowest amount in taxes. There ought to be a flat tax rate across the board, that way there would be no tax breaks or cuts and would hopefully get rid of the rigamarole involved in figuring out taxes.
