OMC made some great engines. It’s too bad BRP bought them. Now they are gone. I still have 3 old Evinrude outboards. 1954 3hp, 1969 6hp, 1962 18hp. They are all in good condition and run great. Love your work Brandon and look forward to seeing more.

those 2 cylinder loopers... the new ones 89' and up... are like a rebuilders dream. everything comes of in these modular "chunks", including the lower cowl. love em'!
@BrandonsGarage
@BrandonsGarage 2 жыл бұрын
I know it, they really are nice to work on. Like a late 60's 18/20, to pull the powerhead you have to remove the rummber mounts and slide it off the stern. Or a 70's 3 cylinder, the lower lower cowl has a bolt you cant get to unless your socket is sideways; and youre never getting ot back in.

@@BrandonsGarage right! the entire ignition, coil, pack, stator everything can come off in one chunk. gotta love that! i dont know the bolt you are talking about on the older 49ci 3cyl, but the older 2 cyl loopers have that one ridiculously hard to reach lower cowling screw right at the worst spot on the corner of the exhaust manifold. i leave them out when putting them back toghether haha i bet you know which one i'm talking about

That motor will run darn near forever. Had several and all started when needed and easy to fix when worn down. Smooth power and eats fuel slower than the 4 cyl 88s used to hotrod with. Great video. Nice tinny too.

Awesome! You've got yourself a nice little boat there for kicking around in, and doing a little fishing. And that Johnson 50 is pretty darn sweet - especially for an "irreparable parts motor." LOL I dig it. Cool little ride. Looks like you can have some real fun with that, and you've done a great job on it. I love your projects and how you bring some of this stuff back to life. So cool.

Quick question, I've had the same motor for 8 years , and recently tried to service the foot/ gearbox and undid the wrong screw for oil drain 😔 I undid the dente balls screw tho managed to get it back in and can still select forward/ reverse. My question is ,, is the gear selector rod supposed to be notchy in all gears or only coming out of neutral? When in neutral , I can feel the dente balls lock it in neutral and it takes force to go from neutral to forward or from neutral to reverse tho doesn't notch into forward nor neutral? Not sure if it's supposed to take force to go from forward to neutral or reverse to neutral and nobody can tell this here in Australia? All they could say is I maybe fluked it and if it selects and prop turns according to what gear your in it "should" be fine tho not guaranteeing that balls havnt fallen into the case .. Can you please shed some light on whether it's supposed to notch in and out of every selection please Thanks

I would agree with you about a professional repair shop , there in it to make money and are the first to let you know if something is NLA ! Then you have the Ma and Pa shops that keep everything and have used parts available like that switch and then you have the salvage yards that know how to charge ( and do ) for NLA parts ! If I didn’t have the switch on hand I would install one on the dash ! If your in need of NLA parts let me know , I might be able to get it for you . I see your collection is of the bigger variety and mine is 25hp or less ! That 76? Hp seems to be your oldest where mine is a 1922 ! Lol. I haven’t been to the P.O. yet but should get there by Wednesday , I’ve been super busy getting my camper and trike ready for this weekend ! Hope you have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend ! No rush, where are you headed? I have an early 50's motor around somewhere, early 50s. Seized powerhead but mint gas tank. then a 57 7.5 and 10. The oldest in the background is the 73 stinger...but that short shaft is a 73 as well. I just like the orange thing better. problem is it has 1.5 dead cylinders, and heavy rust on every bolt head. I doubt itll come apart, and its really probably not worth fixing; but you don't see a factory orange outboard anywhere.

Frequently. I've bent one prop, so nothing too bad yet. A depth gauge is the only gauge I care to have; but once you are familiar with the deeper spots its not that big of a concern. However if I want to take the family out, its pointless to go out on a low day.

You know, if the ‘POLICE’ came later and wanted to accuse you of a violation, they say the boat “LOOKED” like yours, just ask them if they got the ID #’s off that particular boat when going bye their location? Without exact matching numbers (like a license plate/VIN number), there’s no proof or grounds for them to issue a violation! LOL Don’t know the rules/laws where you are, but I know if your boat is beached (like a vehicle, parked) you are not attempting use, there’s no violation, but the police could be jerks and breakout the pen and start writing anyway, just make sure to keep the cameras rolling and bring it with you to contest the violations!

Why does everyone rig an aluminum boat with the same issue. They all put all the weight on the starboard and then they list. The only ones I've ever seen is the actual Lund or Alumicraft rigged ones. Like the V117 an old fishing buddy had that was rigged out right. From the Smokercraft my brother bought to the Mirro that the neighbor had all where done stupid having all the weight on the starboard. I can see the list on your craft too.

"How much would they charge to take your engine off, couple-hundred dollars?" One year later: "I charge money to take engines off for people". In away it's Karmic that he now knows exactly why comopnaies have to charge a fair amount of money for a job that can be done in 15 minutes. Because it's not 15 minutes. Yes, disconnecting the engine is 15 minutes, but the boat has to be brought into the shop, the engine has to be prepped for storage or transport, a different engine will have to be sourced, that 25 minutes very qujickly turns into over an hour if you add in the time they lost talking to you about doing this "15 minutes of work" in the first place. And most importantly: the whole job has to be ensured because if they drop your $10k motor, you're going to demand that they at least replace it with a similar engine. And then there's the shop that needs to be maintained, tools replaced, consumables supplied.... There is a reason why every office has a Janine who knows Excell so she can order the parts. Janine don't work for free either. Logistics!
