I can request a direct deposit even though on my 1040X I requested a check?

If you originally requested a check, then you should enter 'Check' under Item 7, where it discusses the type of return, amount of refund, etc.

If one does not remember the "Date Filed" in line 7, what should one write there? I only remember the month and year I probably filed. Please help 🙏🏻

I sent in this form to trace an extra refund they said I should have got and it looks like they direct deposit it to my tax preparer account with meta bank. I sent this form in over 6 weeks ago for them to trace it back to a wrong account, (tax preparer) what would my next step be to see if they will get this refund finally to me ? I don’t know how to find out anything after sending this in?

I'm sorry that you're in this situation, and I'm sorry that your tax preparer did this to you. Every single tax preparer knows that this is illegal, and this clearly does not look like it was an accident. The first thing that I would recommend is to file IRS Form 14157-A, Tax Return Preparer Fraud or Misconduct Affidavit, where you can specifically report, "A Tax Return Preparer had my refund or a portion of my refund direct deposited into an account that was not mine." You would also need to file IRS Form 14157, Return Preparer Complaint. When filing IRS Form 14157-A, these two go hand in hand (see links to articles and videos below). IRS Form 14157, Return Preparer Complaint Article: www.teachmepersonalfinance.com/irs-form-14157-instructions/ Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJTRlnmperhsgtU IRS Form 14157-A, Tax Preparer Fraud or Misconduct Article: www.teachmepersonalfinance.com/irs-form-14157-a-instructions/ Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6KYhYWmaaydZqM I would also recommend filing a report with your local police department. This is a crime, and should be reported to your law enforcement agency.
