We’ve warned you about the IRS scam call. This month several of you have told us, bogus agents are still calling trying to trick people into thinking they owe taxes. One of them even reached a tax professional.

Jenkins1155 Dear Mr. Jenkins, This is Agent David S. Biddle from the United States Internal Revenues Service. My badge number is NY48221. I am contacting you regarding your outstanding tax bill of $5,000 (c.f. Docket # 12B-178339284). We have no record of your lowered tax bill. You actually do owe us five grand. That's FIVE BIG ONES. Maybe you heard Agent Deepak Chopra's accent and assumed that a man from India couldn't work for the actual IRS. As of October 25th, we still have not received your payment. So you mess with us? Now we mess with YOU!!! I'm gonna drop the OBAMA on you! Dog the BOUNTY HUNTER is coming for you! But hey, between us, I like you. So I'll tell you what. You send me a Playstation 4 and I'll consider your back taxes paid. Deal? Let me know - thanks, brah! Dave Biddle Head President Internal Revenues Service

@libertytaxburien14923 жыл бұрын
@@woodenspoonking245 No, they will levy your wages and bank account if you ignore the letter. Or, they will audit your books and your past 3 tax years (usually, unless they find something else of concern or you did not file). If you owe them enough, they will file a tax lien. If that still doesn't get your attention, an IRS revenue agent will knock on your door. Then they will come back with a warrant and local enforcement and bust down your door. Unless it is an outdoor illegal alcohol still, then they will simply destroy it.
@libertytaxburien14923 жыл бұрын
This is also why I laugh in their face if they say the IRS is suing...the IRS doesn't sue, it just files the paperwork and takes the money. Also, they never take you to jail unless a full criminal investigation is completed and not in your favor. (Which includes things like tax evasion, which is at least as old hat as Al Capone. ) If CI is going on, get a tax attorney and go to tax court.

I was talking to a police officer who knows me, my brothers, my son and my parents personally on my porch because he was checking on me to make sure I was ok after I almost fainted at work due to exhaustion and being overheated because I work in the kitchen at a nursing home. I put the caller on speaker to make sure the officer heard everything. He told the guy on the phone that he was speaking to a police officer. The guy hung up immediately. The officer wrote down the number and reported him to the federal government within seconds.

The IRS does not have to go through the court system to get money from you. They will take it out of your bank account, or paycheck. They don't mess around with a slower than a snail court system.
@roadmaster7206 жыл бұрын
that will happen after repeated attempts from irs mostly by computer generated mail to get you to pay up or call the irs to work out a solution to your tax problem. seizing a taxpayer's property, bank accounts, etc is a last resort method when all else fails for the irs collections. you gotta call the irs, see them in person, communicate with the irs with tax problems or owing a large sum of money. the only way they work.even if they did sue, it would be a hearing in the local federal courthouse not the county courthouse.regardless of the "settling method", the irs will send out only letters with the proper irs letterhead. serious irs mail would be certified or local county law enforcement would serve irs legal papers. it does buy you time to #1-raise the money,#2-win the lottery, #3- win big at the indian casino where they screw the white man good for screwing their ancestors 300-400 yrs ago. the house usually wins. if you win, the irs rep and state income tax reps get a portion of the withheld amt for taxes and you have to still pay your tax bill anyway.

So you'd be perfectly fine with ABC Company saying you owe them $1000, so they can just go and extract it from your bank account without your having any say in the matter? ***** I'm not asking who's going to fund the police, roads, fire control, military, ect. I'm asking for "evidence". We'll get to that later. Just as soon as you can provide the evidence to support your claim. And I'm not a "freemen". If you're so sure that the constitution and laws apply, therefore making Trump, me, or anyone a "tax payer" with "taxable income", and that they have jurisdiction over us, then you should be able to provide the evidence to support this claim, right? Simply saying, "Yes. They have jurisdiction, and you have to pay or you go to prison." is not evidence. That's just your arbitrary opinion backed by an appeal of force. That's NOT evidence. What empirical evidence do you have to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the constitution and laws apply, therefore making us "tax payers" with taxable" income, and that they have any jurisdiction?
@_BenJaminCroft_7 жыл бұрын
Cody131Coops Once again, that is NOT evidence. That's argumentum ad baculum and circular logic. *How* does your constitution apply? Saying, "might makes right" is just your arbitrary opinion backed by an appeal to force and saying, "it's spelled out in the 16th amendment.", is the very definition of circular logic. "a" is true because "b" is true; or "b" is true because "a" is true? *None* of this evidence bty. What evidence do you have to prove that the constitution and IRS tax laws apply and that they have any jurisdiction over us?

I haven't gotten a fake call from the IRS, but I have had a call from "Publisher's Clearing House" telling me I won a big sum of money, and all I had to do to get it was give them some money so they could release it to me (yeah, sure) and they would notify their van driver, who was in the next town making delivery to another winner, so he could bring me my winnings (jeez, what are the odds of that happening?). I made like I couldn't hear him because I was hard of hearing, so I kept asking him to repeat what he just said and to talk more slowly and more loudly so I could understand him better. It got to the point where he was shouting every thing. At one point he asked me where I graduated from college, and I told him "the school of hard knocks". He told me how smart I was and congratulated me on my fine choice, really trying to butter me up. In the meantime, I was online with the real Publisher's Clearing House to look at how they go about notifying people who are winners, and how to look out for scammers. After stringing the guy along for a half hour I read the relevant paragraph to him, and confronted him with his deception. The f-bombs starting flying then - good times.

there's a phone script that is intended to do exactly that. sometimes the telemarketers/scammers don't catch on that it's not a real person,even after the track loops several times.

"It was time to tell the scammer he'd been had by a tax expert." Look, I know you want to spin this as somebody getting one over on a scammer, but this had zero impact on this scammer. There's no way to trace these people, and for them it's purely a numbers game. If they can get just once person a month to fall for their scam, and pull in $2500+, they are doing pretty good based on the local economy.

I keep them on the line as long as I can so they can't be scamming someone else. When the conversation is winding down I tell them "I have no idea why I am being charged. I don't pay U.S taxes because I'm a Canadian citizen." They usually say "f... you" and hang up.

They called me asking for my Dog, apparently an online pet supply company I used, in which I used my dogs name sold their email/contact list. I called back and said Jack would have a hard time understanding them and he didn't know he needed to file since he just sleeps and eats and takes walks. The idiot said not working is why he owed and I asked when they started picking on Canine citizens for this and he explained all citizens of all races/colors must pay their taxes. He said he would just send the police and I asked doesn't he mean animal control. He just never caught on he had called saying my dog was going to jail no matter how much I toyed with him. I had my dog bark a few times at the end of the call and told him "Well he said you wont take me alive coppers" and the guy said sorry to hear that. *sigh*

A citizen of country A can owe taxes to country B, if the taxable activity occurred within the jurisdiction of B. If A and B are on good terms with each other, B can use A's legal system to collect those taxes. Thanks to identity theft, it's possible for B to have good reason (possibly good enough to hold up in court) to falsely believe that you do owe them taxes. Therefore, don't automatically reject a tax claim just because it's from another country. Do reject something that claims to be from the IRS if it didn't come by mail, or if they ask you to use a means of payment that is hard to trace, or if they tell you that you must pay immediately right after the first notification you receive about the matter. Also, they must provide an explanation why you owe the money. If they don't provide one, or if it doesn't make sense, be suspicious and get the services of a tax professional.
@AroundIndiana7 жыл бұрын
I got several of these calls last spring. It was so obviously fake because the voicemails they left were so poorly scripted
"We'll have to take you to the courthouse"My response, "Well, you'll just have to take me to the courthouse then. Do you have my address?" This is usually met with silence and then a dial tone.

One thing to listen for if you are unsure...Your name. Most calls I get say something like "This is a courtesy call. The IRS has been trying to reach you...." and on and on about owing money somehow and gives a number to call, but at no point do they say my name or anything to verify that they know who they are calling. That's a sure sign of a scam. My calls have all come from auto-dialers using a list of numbers hoping to find victims. So if some scammer is trying to get money from you like this but does not know your name, hang up.

My grandmother owned a large chunk of land, one year she wrote a check to the IRS for 3000 . But somebody at the IRS did not get enough zeros into the computer. My grandmother got a letter saying that she still owed $2700 We photocopied the check, we photocopied the bank statement and we showed them that the $3000 did go through the bank And we explain that somebody on there end did not do their job correctly instead.
