to be fair, balam is right. iruma really made a stupid decision to tell him he's human just cause he's a nice guy. he could have been faking it, especially since he does make a point other demons would eat him on the spot.

It wouldn't have mattered if he had attempted to lie though, since Balam can sense lies. Even without telling him, Balam would have come to known it anyway. But he's a sweet guy which is likely why Irumi's grandfather thought things would work out.

Counterfairness, we literally see that Iruma didn’t mean to say it out loud, which is probably important considering he’s managed to not say it to anyone else up to this point. It just so proves that Balam proved himself _absurdly_ trustworthy in a short amount of time to have someone otherwise carefully guarding a deep secret to just let it slip like that.

@@alecLogan well balam sensei is the schools gaurdian and he has the biggest responsibility to not only protect his students, but to find any lies he sees. Even if iruma had lied to him. Balams buzzer ability would have revealed the truth later on. Iruma managed to actually make it work against him because by revealing the truth, the fact his his buzzer didn't go off Surprised him way more then it going off. Iruma is just very lucky that he was so intrested in humans that he wouldnt hurt them, but dead on wanted to study them. Any other teacher wouldnt have been easier to tell other then the one demon who BEGGED to see a human.

@@SamsuManon My thoughts exactly, even better tho very spoiler : When Iruma broke his familiar contract with Kalego, despite all the benefits his teacher's protection brought him for the past year, Kalego had a full on heart to heart with him, telling him about Ceberion and all. If Kalego didn't care about Iruma, the Misfits or heck even the school, he wouldn't have stayed as a teacher. He was forced to stay in the first place because of his family, but he doesn't have to teach here to be their guard dog !

Iruma does not put up his guard against any non-physical threat, which is helpful in another sense that he is the most honest creature in the entire Netherlands, aiding him in becoming the next Demon King.

2:06 That moment you see here wasn't balam being shocked to irumas truth wasn't what made him scared. What really scared him was that his ability buzzer didn't go off. Balam has an ability called buzzer that can let him know if someone is lying no matter what. In fact hes the main reason why no one has ever passed any tests he is in charge of if they cheated because he would know about it. When iruma told him he was human, he was more shocked his ability didn't go off then iruma telling him the truth because it was basically a slap in the face. Iruma is lucky he was open to the one teacher in the whole entire school that not only wanted to see humans but also cared and protected them if he had the chance. It was the reason why iruma told him because for the first time, he was safe in the school.

The more I watch this series and the more I come to doubt demons would really eat a human if they saw one. Especially since many demons already know Iruma is a human and don’t seem to mind it. The reason I think that is they’ve never seen a human and to most of them it is a sort of mythical creature that only exists in folklore. When they sing "humans only exist as our food" that’s what they have been taught but they’ve never seen the real deal. I think like Baram their first reaction would be fear instead of being hungry. Though it’s true Iruma always seems to attract unwanted attention if he doesn’t mask his scent so maybe he really is a delicacy to them that would send them berserk, but it has yet to be seen.

Whilst with the vast majority of the school it is true that Iruma would be target #1 for any general desire to eat him... thankfully for him, he surrounds himself and puts trust into those who he deep down knows wont sell him out. Its sort of strange in its own right how he basically seems to surround himself with extremely passive individuals. Afterall, many of the other demons in the school seem to have extremely hard times controlling themselves in any functional way.
