I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy many times as he frequently came into the pool hall where I worked. My boss Harley Bryan was good friends with him til he died. Great person.

It's really weird watching a video of Jimmy Caras play straight pool with a pace of light speed, then watching this.

At 75 years young I can readily understand why these players had to ask which side of the table was theirs! Great stuff!!

What year? like 1979? 82?

That first shot of Crane's popped out precisely because he used low left draw at that speed. It would've gone down had he used high right and gotten position. When the object ball impacts the right side of the pocket shoulder, it naturally will roll in because of the congruent or running spin. When hitting with left on the cue ball the object ball will retard against the pocket shoulder and vibrate out . . at speed. More gently it will roll off the second shoulder into the pocket using low left on the cue ball.

what year was this (these) "the legendary stars of pocket billiards tournament " played ?
@CarlCramer884 жыл бұрын
The old school way of potting balls....Stand high above the table and your cue. The new school way them guys get low and even with the table and their cue. I wonder what year that started to change, anybody know?
@BigCheemAlert4 жыл бұрын
What you saw here was a very American style of pool. Influence from other countries changed the way people approach pool. Snooker players typically use an open bridge and sight very close to the cue, while Americans will use a closed bridge and will have space between the cue and their sight. Classic American players more resemble a modern billiards approach as many pocket billiards were influenced by 3-cushion and balkline players. There are still players that use the American approach, but worldly influences have allowed for players to have choices for their desired style of play.

Jersey Red got low and I don’t think he had been much influenced outside of American players on technique.

In 7 ball after the break player the player who didn't break chooses the side that the 7 ball is closest to .Each player has a side to shoot the 7 ball in . Very interesting game.Charles Ursiti made the game up do to his great interested.

Each player may only sink the winning ball on one side of the table (2 corners and 1 side pocket).
