In expensive Singapore ( which was rated as one of the most expensive cities in the world ), McDonald's workers are paid probably around US$6/hr. McChicken and Fillet-O-Fish meals sell for around S$6.50 (US$5.00). Full-time and part-time jobs at these restaurants are filled very fast. Is US$20/hr (S$26/hr) too high for these less skilled workers ( teenagers could prepare the burgers, fries and coke drinks themselves at home for a small fraction of the price ) ?

Then no worker will get paid at all while the wealthy who can afford the workers as they already are privielged to do so will make more money while not having to not only give workers but the wealth gap between the rich and poor will widen along that it’ll further cause the divide of the privileged vs who isn’t ;what you’re suggesting creates another problem rather than “problem solved”. Also, Andrew Yang had mentioned automation would be a problem for the same reasons I had mentioned. Also, what job do you do? It’ll probably be replaced by automation. @TyrianHaze A lot of restaurants' closing can be due to it being poorly managed though. Resturants increased thier prices between 2-8% and not lose profit. The narrative is that they blame the minimum wage increase and not the fact they can potentially price gouge customers and shrink thier food like they already have been doing. If I told you that you wouldn't believe me. You believe the narrative of wage increases hurt businesses.

What this is doing is closing down daycares. Daycare employees have to get licensed from the state, background checks, etc. And now fastfood workers are making more. So to keep your daycare employees you got to raise wages. Guess what? over 90% of parents can't pay for daycare and have to get federal help called CCMS. It cost about $15,000 a year for one child to be in daycare so mom can work. Daycares in Texas are shutting down, and people quitting jobs to stay home with children. TX Daycare employees made about $12hr. Then the new daycares that open to replace the ones that closed have higher rent, and less staff, and children, so they won't make it.

@@connordoyle502 No I am not. I'm compairing Texas fast food wages. They make $14hr starting at Taco Bell and $60-$75k as a McDonalds manger in Texas. Since California increased wages Texas did too, because some of our restaurants are owmed by California franchises, and our appartments are owned by California corporations too. So this is how Californians spread their wage increase across the nation. If El Coyote based out of California pays people $18hr in Tyler Texas then other restaurants have to raise wages to keep employees from leaving. See how that works?
@connordoyle502
@connordoyle502 5 ай бұрын
@sleepwalker29 in theory but are you saying people are moving to california to solely make 20$/hr for fast food? The problem with these laws is that it makes the public complacent. There is no incentive to learn new skills and EARN higher wages. As a society, we should agree that fast food is not really food, so there is no loss if they all close. Any business that can't pay a living wage should not exist. Period. Automation should be implemented anywhere possible. AI is going to take a lot of jobs and create some new ones. Work hours should be cut for everyone, creating more jobs, but at a living wage. The people who support capitalism are watching it crumble before their eyes, while they try to put bandaids on unsustainable business models. Everything changes - all throughout history.

A full time 8 hour employee isnt only $20 and hour or $3200 a month but ObamaCare requirements, and Employer,Fed and State taxes can said employee now cost $6000 a month as a expense A robot that can make burgers or that can run the fryer can be bought for the cost of 6 prep workers in 1 month 2 Ordering Kiosks can be bought for the cost of 1 employee in a month I live near one of those built during pandemic McDonalds Franchise where there is only 1 employee to run Drive Through and the Manager with a small dining /waiting area 4 ordering Kioks a Order pick up area for App Orders and Door Dash/Uber Eats,etc pickup with the Manager occasionally coming out to drop orders in pick up,fill up drinks,and ring up the occasional cash playing customer When entry level and repetitive manual labor employees costs more then robots that can do the job,they will be replaced by robots........something Obama omited talking to union workers about the U.S. "2nd Industrial Revolution"
