People need to live though and sometimes that's all that's available. Rent and everything has gone up, and the job market is tough. If a fast food job is all you can get, you still need to be able feed yourself, pay bills, pay rent, insurance, gas, daily care needs, ect...some people might be living single with kids. No one can live off of $16 an hour..even at $20 an hour that's barely enough to get by with rent each month. Something else needs to be done. I don't think a wage hike was the answer, but I understand being only able to get what you can get and still needing to survive.

The people making $50 an hour should be just as mad about the $50. If wages had held as a percentage of national income, we'd all be making 25% more across the board. @harryniedecken53217 ай бұрын
@@flickeringflame6161 It's just reality - no one's fault. Jobs often require specific clothing/ outfit that the employees have to buy, gas and vehicle access, etc. Deducted from your paycheck are a variety of taxes, insurance, etc. The average person has no say in government spending on wars or subsidizing foreign countries so I don't think it matters in this discussion. The bottom line is that the typical employee at these jobs is probably living very cheaply with their parents to make ends meet. If they don't work at all they still get fed but have no additional expenses related to working. If they go to work, it has to be enough to be positive cash flow.

I'd never heard anyone say that labor was demeaning and neither myself nor my former McDonald's coworkers felt demeaned. We did our jobs the best as we could and were proud of it. Even if a restaurant stays open, which employees will they keep and pay that $20 to? It sure as hell won’t be the ones who arrive late, leave early and call in sick two or three times a month. If a small business owner has a $100,000 budget for hiring employees, making a law does not automatically increase that budget. Instead, the business owner has to decide which employees to retain and which to let go. This is not rocket science. It's simple business. No business owner can afford to pay employees more in wages than they work generates. With $100k, he or she can hire 4 people for $25k a year, 3 people at $33.3k per year, or 2 people at $50k per year. Nothing in this law creates more money to be used for wages.
