The hitbox thing on Ahri seems a little odd, especially since they also mentioned they changed her a bunch before the alpha. So they should have already seen how awkward it looks. Maybe they're still working on her? I'd really like to try playing her if I get into the alpha. She seems fun, but Braum and Illaoi probably fit my play style more. I'll make a team of two from any of those three, probably.

I think you nailed it. This game will live and die by the quality of its skill based match making. The floor to ceiling gap is so large that getting bodied by a good player once or twice is enough to make new players straight up quit before they give the game a shot. I really don’t know how they will stop surfing in a F2P game either. Will be interesting to see what they cook up in this area.

If I get the code, my younger brother, who became a fan of fighting games after SF6 and even managed to secure first place in our country (Kazakhstan) playing as JP, which is a small achievement but still cool. If we get the code, he'll play as BRAUM, and I'll be on the side of ILLAOI.

Yeah that's a deal breaker for me. And bad design. U shoudnt need to go studying the hit boxes to know what's what at such basic level. Specially for a game that sells itself as beginners friendly, such unintuitive stuff is baffling.

I was hoping the game was gonna have shorter combos compared to other VS fighters so I could get used to the games neutral and assist characters, but this game is still super fun I think the main problem is the lack of skill based matchmaking cause I'm either rolling ppl or getting rolled

I think in addition to SBMM, casual modes like LoL's ARAM and vsBots modes ease new players into that game in low stakes environments. I wouldnt be surprised if this game has something like that eventually.

I tend to like very fast and aggressive characters. Ekko and Illaoi would 100% be my mains with the characters we have so far. In Guilty Gear I've played Millia, Sin, Testament, and Slayer. For Tekken I play Dragunov and now Lidia. In DBFZ my favorite team was A17/Sbroly/Hit. I'm not good at SF6 (plat level) but I played Cammy and A.K.I. I can't wait to bash my head against the wall learning the most optimal/flashy routes with Ekko, his abilities look absolutely bonkers. Then Illaoi looks so oppressive with the right setups.

After watching different matches, I would want to try Yasuo/Illaoi. I can see the synergy being really good with Yasuo's knockdowns plus Illaoi tentacles. As someone who's played tag games It can feel overwhelming because not only do you have to learn the base game, but also learn each character on your team individually, AND how to make them work together

If I get in I would play ekko and braum because I have always wanted to play braum in league but hes stuck to being a support. But in 2xko braum can put up a fight and he just looks so satisfying. Also ekko has crazy mix and his rewind mechanic look so fun to use!

The hardest part for me is getting use to the tag system. I'm trying to get use to tagging during a combo and hitting the button again to keep the character out. It all comes down to muscle memory.

I think you absolutely nailed it, I haven't played this game yet but I will main Yasuo/Ahri until Samira comes out. The hitbox thing seems like a genuine concern and it could definitely help Riot understand what's happening. I hope the 2XKO team watches this video so we can get it fixed for the beta release. I got 252 hrs in DBFZ, 105 in Strive and 184 hrs in SF6, plus the hundreds of hours I spent on UMvC3 back in the PS3 days - I'm more than ready to tango in this game.

i felt that "hardstuck 7th floor" on strive. thanks for comparing it to fighterz and GG. tag team fighters are fr way different compared to SF, currently 1600MR but i couldnt climb past demon rank on DBFZ. id go for darius/ekko maybe kinda?

totally agree with you about s1 and s2 buttons and motion inputs. it's confusing, in guilty gear slash/heavy slash is even just a better naming scheme for the buttons. s2 and s1 is just confusing, would rather learn the motions for the specials and free up the buttons.

like with illaoi her S2 specials all put out a tentacle but S1 ones activate them, so i'm trying to think like ok all the moves w/ this button set a tentacle, but it just feels confusing since the moves don't feel that differentiated in my head, like s2 and s1 feel like the same thing. why is forward s1 her great neutral poke? wouldn't it make more sense as a command normal or motion? hard for my brain to learn what the hell the buttons do and how they correspond to what is coming out when the scheme is like this

Nice vid! If I got the code id play Ekko for sure ive loved him since his league release and to play him in a fighter with how many mixups and skill expression he has would be awesome. Have a really high mastery level on him in league. Id also play Braum, hes always been a favorite character of mine. Its great to see him be a big heavy fighter instead of just a support and I think this game brings out more of the character than league does which is cool to see.

Game looks super fun! The only thing I'm scared about is Vanguard, but I'm definitely going to try it! If I win the code, I'd probably experiment with Ekko/Ahri and Braum/Darius. Both are polar opposites with different ways to approach the game so, as someone with previous tag fighter experience, I think that'll give me the best outlook on the game itself

I think the limited pool is also def hurting ppl new to the genre, as there's only really the two extremes interested in the game, along with no skill based matchmaking. There's so much more at a fundies level that make the skill floor a bit trickier to get into - I feel like the only truly beginner friendly way is via a platform fighter, as a whole mechanic of movement is a very popular genre in itself, and you don't have to worry about low/high mixes etc. For me I'd prob go Ahri/Yasuo though!

This is still just a public alpha, so I have no doubts that a lot of issues will be addressed in the future. Hopefully they add more customization options for controls layout as well, since some people use niche layouts in something like GG games. Wanna try out Ahri and Braum. I think Riot is in for a rude awakening. Retaining 1v1 competitive game is way harder than team games. When people are hard stuck silver they can just blame their team and queue up for the next game. I can see a lot of players hit that wall, blame balance, then eventually quit when they don’t hit the rank they feel they deserve. I really want to try Ekko-Ahri. I bet there’s all sorts of wack 50-50 setups you have with two super mobile characters.

I personally didnt enjoy the game too much honestly. Which is kinda a bummer. That being said though. I still think the game is in a very good place right now, and I am incredibly hopeful for its future. Mostly because of what pro players have been saying about riot listening to their feedback when they played it behind closed doors multiple times, and how every time they played they could see the things that they commented about being fixed or tweaked. The game is due to release in 2025. but given that this is august, for all we know, this game could still have a whole year and a half worth of dev time behind it before releasing. Just give them a lot of constructive feedback when those surveys hit, and we will see what happens from there

I think the game needs to have no motion inputs. I’ve tried teaching my friends ggst before and I’d be baffled that they couldn’t do a quarter circle. The no motion inputs is just so beginners can have a better starting experience.
