I've been trying to P rank Ultrakill on Brutal and it was going fine until 3-2, Gabriel. Man actually made me slow down, no saw traps, I now need to learn how to handle strong airborne enemies. It took me 62 attempts and nearly 30 minutes to kill him once. The prevailing strategy was to learn to dodge, then parry his ranged attacks, then hit him with something quick immediately after

to answer "why you did it" i mean throw caution to the wind and just go for it,... because at least for me,.. i play for fun,.. now,.. winning is fun,.BUT sitting around doing nothing is boring and not particularly fun,.. so in pursuit of "fun" i just go for it

I never thought about this before; I just thought I was hyper aggressive in fighting games as a play-style. It doesn’t help that in some cases playing so aggressively would net me wins.

I disagree with the mindset of keeping yourself alive instead of beating the opponent. That’s a fear based mindset and you will lose in many more areas of life thinking like that. It IS good for survival but that’s about it.
@MikeyDLuffy
@MikeyDLuffy 8 сағат бұрын
In almost every game shown/talked about, going in to beat your opponent comes with more risks that open you up, and the best players do not miss those opportunities to punish you. Jumping or whiffing a normal in SF or Smash, Dashing in too early or pushing forward aggressively in OW or League just to get CC'd or collapsed on by other people etc. Doesn't apply to life as a whole, but in most games you need to pick your spots extremely carefully against good players, because aggression leaves you open.

Kind of a disappointing video for me. While it's fun to see the list, the lack of explanations for WHY the characters are good makes the video feel lacking in meat.

3:10 yeah I noticed this too. When I play by autopilot I take silly damage and end up offstage. But when I focus on not getting hit and properly managing range it becomes a lot more boring but I just do better

haha this is what I noticed in dota and it goes all the way to the highest level. Watch the player perspective of a top tier pro player and see what mistakes they make - you will realize nearly all of them can be attributed to a single source: impatience / overextension.

I think a lot of it is that perpetually playing a "neutral zone trap" waiting for a chance to counterattack _just isn't fun_ for a lot of people, and it's certainly not what attracted them to the single player game. I need to be compensated if I'm going to play for something other than fun. That's probably why I don't get into PvP fighting as a general rule (if a game allows it), and if it's _required_ then it's time to find another game.

I play so many new fighting games with my friends, I never have time to lab and learn combos like they do. So I default to the neutral game. Footsies ftw

I'm so glad I came across this video. This same concept can be applied to lots of irl stuff too. In karate I generally like to counter in sparring, but when I got hit in the solarplexus in a tournament, I ended up going ape-brained and did poorly the rest of the sparring match. You can apply this in music too. You generally say a lot more with less in songs. I remember going to a jam session and listening to this guy shred on his guitar, which was impressive sounding...for the first five seconds. It got old after that.

This even applies to chess even though it's turn based. I've lost so many games where I was one of two moves away from a clever checkmate because I didn't notice my king was in a bad position and got checkmated first.

The less is more thing translate to overwatch especially for tank players. A lot of people simply lose games because they just alway all in’ing the entire match forcing the supports to dump every ounce of attention and cooldowns into their tank so if anything happens anywhere else no matter how small it forces the supports into a lose lose where they have to chose to let themselves/a non tank teammate die or let the tank die. Also in general people who refuse to soft reset during a fight. Like the enemy pops some ultimate right before the fight and all you need to do is delay the fight for 10 seconds but these adhd gamers can’t afford to hold still so they get bored and go take the least fair fight physically possible. Or when it’s like 15 seconds until the time is up and you easily have enough time to group for one last fight but again these adhd gamers can’t tell the difference between overtime and 15 whole seconds so they just take turns suiciding onto the objective one by one

This, this right here, this is the thing I dislike about the fighting game genre. It always boils down to this. And the thing is? IT'S BORING! IT ISN'T FUN TO WATCH! IT ISN'T FUN TO PLAY! It can be engaging, *especially* with stakes, but *intrinsically* you're expected to play so safe and get so far into your opponent's headspace so far that you're not playing the game anymore, you're playing *them.* Almost every form of PvP boils down to this (even irl lol) and I just cannot stand it. I swear to god that I desperately want a game that goes all-in on the ruthless aggression of high-level mid-level play so much more than anything I get out of trying to break out of it. I've wanted something like that for aeons and to my knowledge it just does not exist.

Can confirm this applies to mobas, you will see people at this just-below-the-highest-level point (the one where the skill level starts rising DRASTICALLY once you get higher, which probably every game has) will often be good mechanically but have no awareness of when to actually take fights or much macro understanding (at best copying what good players do). And in mobas (and ig all team games) it doesn't help that they will then think they're super good because they outplay their opponents and blame their team for not climbing, so they just stay stuck.

Back when I was playing World of Warships, this also held true. If you look at any of the top tournament matches, you'd find a whole bunch of players camping and taking very few risks, and when they did, it was when they saw an opening, or a local advantage. But seeing those matches, I just thought it looks so boring, so I decided to be content with my upper-mid gameplay and keep on being relatively aggressive. It might not have been the most optimal play, but it was the most fun.
