Food for thought, it’s easier to complete this job with as much stone as necessary, if you wait you will have to move equipment stored there in order to finish it properly. Take the time to make it right now and you won’t have to redo it later

You guys are lucky. We haven't had any rain in 4 weeks straight, and this is our rainy season to send us to a cool fall. I live in northern Louisiana, and those hurricanes didn't produce any rain for us. There is over a 1000 square miles of no burning here. That's Eastern Teaxs, South East Oklahoma, South West Arkansas and All North western Lousiana.

Here in north/central Florida we were lucky when Helene hit. We did get a bunch of rain, but no major wind damage. The back part of our property is basically a swamp right now and a field that is usually just grass is now a "pond". The soil is more of a peat material that just soaks up water and doesn't drain very quickly. We can certainly use a break from the rain. With that being said, I hope that you all do get the rain that you need for your fields.

A little tip next time you move a pile with your bucket, to save on wear and tear. I was taught to lower rpm's to just above an idle, keep front wheels on ground as their helping to push you into the pile and as the bucket starts to enter pile, while still moving forward, to slowly start raising bucket, slowly curl bucket towards you as it comes up out of the pile towards the top. If bucket wont enter like that because its compacted, back drag some off the top of pile to break it up a little. Youll be happier in 5 years when you dont have to bang pins and bushings out to replace. They call it stabbing and it's hard on pins and bushings. Just a tip.

Greetings from Brisbane Australia. A builder friend of mine 45 years ago suggested when I was proposing to gravel my driveway ( in surbibia) that the best mixture, in his opinion, was half 3/4 inch, one quarter 3/8 inch, one quarter 3/16 inch gravels. He reasoned that all one grade doesn't really pack down whilst this mixture becomes a denser pack that doesn't result in large ruts This may give you a better parking area
@markpashia70672 күн бұрын
His mix is just crusher run put through a one inch screen to get out the larger stone. So he has everything that went through from one inch down to dust and this stuff packs like no tomorrow. The only time it will get soft is with long time soaking like in spring snow melt. I made a driveway with three quarter inch minus and it lasted years until one early spring the snow melt busted one tiny spot in a curve. I just dug out that spot and repacked it deeper and never had a problem again. In dry season it is as hard as concrete once it gets damp and packs in.
@Sleekfalcon2 күн бұрын
We haven't had rain for a couple of months now. I cleared my land and haven't had any rain to grow grass back, just a big dust pad. I can't wait for rain again. Your new pad is looking great!
@markpashia70672 күн бұрын
In my area they call it one inch minus. The minus means all sizes below the stated size down to dust. In other words it is crushed and run through one inch screens and not further screened or washed. When they are screening size for washed stones they do every size from largest (usually four inch) all they way down to three eighth chips and each batch gets washed of dust. Nice thing about one inch and also three quarter minus is that it packs in with all the smaller and dust to make almost a concrete hard surface until winter with soaking water from melting snow.

Sod staples work great to pin the fabric down as you go. They are cheap and eventually rust away. Use enough and you can drive on it and it will stay put.

There was a barn that burnt on the edge of town Monday evening I called 911 and the fire department was there most of the night. I always seem to find it takes more rock than you think anytime you start a rock job we had a path to our pavilion at church I scooped out all the old rock and hauled fresh in it took 7 tons 2 loads with my dump truck I was thinking it would only take 1 load

I'm beginning to think there is no rain. My yard is totally brown and the leaves are taking over the yard and eventually I will need to mow and chopped them up. I agree I have some of that material to lay down but the wind has blown everyday. The guy we called last year brought us the same rock, I think it was around 65 tons. This year I wanted the guy to just dump it but he misunderstood and tailgate it down, so I had to put on my box blade to put it back into a pile. I still have about a half load left. I've got a spot to put down the plastic and have him tailgate it but want bigger rock first.
