I never realised how loud these saws are. I'll be sure to wear hearing protection like you do.

This guy reminded me why we don’t take a limb off with one cut. You have to make 3 cuts to do it right. Maybe more but remove the weight then go after the life altering sections. You want a cut about 4 ft from the trunk about 1/2 way through and then another through cut out side 1’ away. This makes the big damaging section on a piece you’ll remove next.

So... Yeah, it is even advertised with a bark cutter. Was hoping to see how well it worked. Yep , one on the lower side that is out past where the final cut will be. The second being same side further out, or top side beyond the through cut. the third being the through cut. If the whole point is is supposed to be a high reach saw, I agree. Take some weight off then work your way down. What really sucks is if you forget on a clients tree or shrubs.

The larger branch cut at 4:39 was horrible , that large tear wound will introduce pest or disease or decay damage to the tree as time goes on . Hand pole saws have their uses for sure and if the entire tree was going to be felled then limb damage doesn't matter , this video however is far from "best practice" for tree health . Great saw for cutting palm tree fronds though , it would shine there .

That large tear happened because he didn`t prune off some of the smaller pieces first, thus the weight of whole branch collapsed on the limb he cut. I expected that to happen. He can go back and make another cut to smooth it off. He actually mentioned it int he video.

No under cut, it was obvious it was going to happen before he even started cutting, huge peeler, not good

You can't easily undercut branches with a pole saw. If you cut the branch several feet away from the collar, it will tear. However, you follow that up cutting just following the branch collar. The 2nd cut won't tear because all the weight has been removed from the branch with the 1st cut.

Im an arborist, I’ve blown through at least a dozen of these so far. They are decent for the price but they break easy, the plastic connectors wear out and crack, and the metal pins bend and stop catching. I’m in the market for something more durable for heavy use. Would be great for a homeowner though

Curious what you find. Barnel Z555P2 is very similar. Curious how that compares to this tool.

Agreed. I have three men that work me and they are hard core working a hard job. They push pull bump and throw. Gentleness is the last thing on their minds. With the exception of caring for the customer’s property and things. When those aluminum tools get thrown into the mix, we’ll they just don’t hold up.

I’m an arborist as well, I’m still on my first pp800. It’s made me a over 50 grand , and the pole is still in great shape, blade is still sharp and cuts like new. Question is, do you need something more durable or do you need better training at using your polesaw

I use the $100 Chinese made Amazon poles that assemble to about 25 ft or so. However the ideal length is like you said about 18 feet. At this length the average able-bodied person can easily control the saw and you can use a small stepladder like you would find at Costco to get an extra couple of feet. I would not recommend using a regular ladder because these branches will fall and hit the ladder and knock you off. With a lot of practice I’m able to take branches down that are over 30 feet off the ground using the full extension of the pole it’s just a matter of technique and balance. But either way like you said it’s just a nice slow consistent sawing motion will get the job done. The people I see frantically moving the saw back-and-forth are simply wearing themselves out for no reason😮

Good to know, been thinking of investing in one, I have a fiskars from Home Depot but it only goes 12-14’ and it’s a pole pruner too so that rope always gets tangled.

I'm a homeowner and I like this saw. It is a little heavy but that helps when cutting especially at the extended lengths.

Fulcrum and lever, from geometry. When you extend it to 20ft 4.7lbs is not 4.7lbs at your hands. @@smoth0p3ratorc5

I am a professional. I have worn 1 of those out. It is a great saw. Worth the $ to me. Stihl also makes a 11 ft version, not much cheaper. And P 900 version cheaper and comes with bypass dope lopper as well.

How long did your unit last for. I'm also a landscaper and have been using the Fiskars Pole Saw from HD. They always break, but are covered by the warranty. Need something more robust..

@@Chris-ji8jwI have a couple of the professional gas powered pole saws (Echo Brand ). They are great, but on thinner branches (1in or smaller) a manual pole saw and cutter works better. I recommend having both in the arsenal.

Sorry for being a noob but why not get a powered one? Is it because the powered one does not go that high?
@Barnel
@Barnel Жыл бұрын
Generally you need a battery or power source as an attachment. Because these poles are telescopic they can reach very high, but they get heavier the higher you reach. Tough to handle with additional weight of a battery.

Ooof...that was painful to watch. If you have to cut a limb greater than about 3 inches in diameter high above your head, you really need a climbing arborist or bucket lift, so that you can properly undercut the limb and prevent it from tearing the live bark halfway down the trunk. It is possible to undercut a branch with a pole saw, but it requires a good deal of strength and experience, and at best you can only do it on limbs about half the height of the pole. Dude is super fit, though. That's a lot of cutting, and it would have worn me out!

Good luck trying to undercut branches on a tree like this. You could go to the left or right of an undercut but not make a true undercut.

Does your sapling retract and extend? Does the saw blade snap on and off? What a ridiculous comment.
