This video brings back great memories for me of my red, two wheel drive 1990 Jeep Comanche 2.5L 4cylinder with a 4 speed manual transmission, 6ft bed pickup. I remember when I was test driving it, the salesman telling me that the engine was made by Isuzu and that it had more torque than the 2.8L 6cylinder engines had. My Comanche looked just like the one you have in the video including the interior even the color is the same. The dash is the same except that mine didn't have the sporty steering wheel. Which is kind of surprising when I think about it, because it had "Sport Truck" written on both sides of it in the pin striping. It was a very basic work truck, it didn't have air conditioning and it didn't even come with a radio, just a capped off hole for the antenna on the fender and a covered slot where the radio would go and of course no speakers, so I had to have that all installed on it. Plus it didn't come with a right side mirror which was happening a lot back in those days with companies getting cheap and it didn't even come with the rear bumper, I had to buy that from the dealer extra when I bought it. I put new mirrors on it myself. I bought it when I was 21 years old back in 1991 and even though it wasn't a 4×4, I took it off road a lot in my younger days. I had a custom built camper top on the back with a nice comfy carpet kit inside of it, that I enjoyed doing a lot of camping in, in the mountains of Southern California and In Arizona. The one thing that I really liked about it was that even though it wasn't a 4×4, it still had the same 4×4 suspension on it, so it had a lot of ground clearance for off roading and it was also under coated which I was surprised to see. I really loved that truck and I always enjoyed driving it even when I had newer vehicles. In the end I was mostly just using it to haul trash to the dump and stuff, because the horse power wasn't that great anymore, but it had over 200,000 miles on it. I finally donated it to a charity in 2017. It was still running, but because of the lack of horse power, I didn't really feel comfortable with selling it to anyone. I have been noticing the new Gladiators, I think they look very nice, I have been afraid to go to the dealer to check them out, because I know that I will end up driving home with one. Maybe eventually after they have a couple years to get any bugs they may have out of them. But I definitely like the look of them. Thanks for making this video, I enjoyed it very much👍🙂

Old school for me as well. Often thought of a mash up between a XJ (4 door) and a Comanche SB to get a retro Gladiator ish Jeep.

I am the proud owner of an 87 Laredo Comanche - original owner - 305.000 miles! I am not interested in the Gladiator, I will keep the longer bed - 7' - and towing capacity - Dana 44 and heavy duty springs. Tim

I'd take the Comanche over any of the new one for dependability and just Simple . The newer one have to much as for a Electronics.

I laughed when he said that the old Comanche was very heavily worked. That one looks like it was only driven by an old lady to get to church on Sundays. He obviously doesn’t know what a Heavily Worked truck looks like after 20 years. That Comanche is beautiful!

Jeep is coming back out with a Scrambler idea. Three different cab options. Two bed lengths, and three different motors. One of witch being a turbo diesel.

I had an 88 Sportruck shortbed, 4x4 with the 4L and a 5 speed. Loved it and am currently looking for another. It was the smoothest riding and tightest handling truck I've ever been in. It also had scary over assisted steering.

Old school. My first truck was a 1984 Nissan 720 that was re built from the ground up . The Simplicity and honesty of trucks of that era it's something I look forward to again when I purchase a vehicle to rebuild in the future

Jeep is owned by Fiat.
@jaymase37354 жыл бұрын
@@emanuelnamseth1469 Very aware- Fiat owns Puegot also. Puegot and Renault were involved in the worst parts of Jeep, before Chrysler purchased them for the 1988 model year. Fiat has completely left the larger Jeep models to be entirely handled and created by Chrysler's Jeep team. The smaller Jeeps currently produced are however, are almost all rebadged Fiats. Better to stick with the 90's 4.0l Jeeps or larger newer Jeeps, like the Grand Cherokee, Gladiator, Wrangler, and the new upcoming Grand/ Wagoneer.

The old 4.0 was plenty reliable. Only 1 crank sensor and 1 iac motor in 300k plus miles. I installed powertrax lockers in it and had installed the heavier rated springs which lifted it about 3 inches. Only thing that killed it was it rusted away. Bought it new in 88 and retired in 2004. Oh I did have to replace the track bar a few times. Lol
