@@kevinW826 Its not that CVTs are bad, but that Subaru's CVTs are as bad as Nissan's. Its ancient now, and should have been updated when they came out with the new chassis. Hopefully they can switch to DCT or toyota hybrid CVT in the future.

Just bought an outback limited, highly recommended using premium gas (91 octane). Noticeable difference in the 2.5L engine non turbo, 7-8 hp gain 3ft lbs of torque gain from ok to spirited .It advances the timing into the sweet spot power is just right ( 91 octane ). Worth the extra money.!!!
@richterkleiber4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this great no-nonsense review with helpful info! I appreciated that you didn’t default to the top-of-the-line like most reviewers. My extended comments on the car: Within my budget and mostly city and freeway driving, I was looking for a great value with maximum bang for my buck with safety, reliability, a great feel, and even great features. I ended up going with the premium trim, which is just above the base model; with the features you get it’s perhaps the best value. I love this car. The cabin is quiet and the suspension tuning is phenomenal. The 2.5 engine is more than adequate for most situations and will give you power when you need it. I compared it with the turbo, which is exciting but for my purposes not entirely necessary other than for the thrill, if that’s your priority, plus the turbo gets significantly less combined mileage than what the sticker says. My premium gets about 28-29 combined with how I drive, and my combined on the turbo was 22-23. That’s a huge difference in range and economy at the pump. To my premium I added the popular package #2 which gave push button start, moonroof, power lift gate, cross traffic warning and blind spot monitor, and seatback protectors among other things-to this I also gradually upgraded every possible accessory, adding the Rockford Fosgate sound system-a great upgrade-and the CD player; I added side door moldings which protect and give a sleeker and more balanced appearance to the car. I added door edge guards, tailgate chrome trim, front and rear bumper chrome-look underguards, and the interior wood grain accent to replace the carbon fiber trim. I also added the auto-dimming mirrors with approach lights, which I highly recommend along with the wireless charger and LED ambient footwell upgrade. The pre-collision braking already saved my butt twice from split-second scenarios where the car in front of me slammed on the brakes while I was glancing in the rear view mirror. The lane-keep with lane centering is amazing. This car within my budget is a dream and has a premium feel. I bought it as an early return corporate lease, only eight months old with 7800 miles on it. With trade in, I paid 22k for an incredible value car that was originally bought for 34k; I added upgrades in the months following as my budget allowed-my wordy point is you can add the features you want. I cannot recommend this car highly enough. Some complain about the CVT; I find it responsive and the paddle shifters are fun. Some complain about the auto stop and start being hard to disable; a recent software update puts it as a single push button on the Home Screen now. Some complain that too many features have gone to the fantastic premium center display; the advantage is that when I use my phone to control remote start, I can specify temperature as such because of this, along with heated seat level and the mirror heating on. It comes with heated wipers as well. If leather seats with rear heated seats and air vents are important to you, the limited is the way to go; if luxury appearance and softer Nappa leather, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, a front camera, and reverse automatic braking are important to you, then touring is the way to go. The rear seats recline on my premium and the power lift gate can open with proximity. The backup camera even has a lens washer. If more power is needed go to the turbo but if you’re looking for ultra power go to the Audi wagon for three times the price. Again, I think the 2.5 is quite good even if not thrilling. I think there is great attention to detail and the premium will give you many great standard features. Perfect car? Not for every taste, but I love mine.
@Kd_rise3 жыл бұрын
The premium without any package is arguably the absolute best bang of the buck. A key in ignition is not a deal breaker and I know it doesn’t come with remote start but my question is, do I still get remote start (on the app) by upgrading to the STARLINK Safety and Security subscription?
@richterkleiber3 жыл бұрын
@@Kd_rise Although I'm not an expert, I think it might be possible--I could try to call up the local Subaru dealer here. When I bought mine as an early-return corporate lease, it came with the keyless ignition, but to upgrade to remote start (useful for the cold 9-month Cleveland winters I have) I was able to subscribe to the Starlink. I'll see if I can do some sleuthing.
@Kd_rise3 жыл бұрын
@@richterkleiber i appreciate you sharing that experience. Hopefully I can at least get it through the app. Or else I will always regret no opting for the keyless option. I know it would of been more money but living in New Jersey the last thing I need is a freezing interior in the middle of January lol

Alway's liked the look of the outback. With all that plastic is it going to hold up. I've seen the black plastic on Chevy trucks after a couple years fade to grey, and sorta disintegrate. Good review, but I think you forgot to ding the rear wiper placement, though it does look bigger than those other short wipers that give you small barely usable clean spot. 👍👍.

These are lovely vehicles except for that 2.5L power plant. Subaru has had issues with oil leakage from head gaskets. They claim this to have been resolved. But as a former Customer Service Mgr at a Subie dealership, that isn't true. Without serious engine failure, it is a $1500-$2000 repair cost. Aside from that, Subaru 2.5L cars are great.😬

Great review Joe! Just watched this one and the older Onyx XT one from a year ago. When I started looking, my first choice was an Outback since my 2018 Subaru Legacy company car has been so nice. The new Subaru Global architecture seems awesome. What is kind of concerning on this car to me is 1) Stop/Start is a pain, broken windshields, not much storage in the cabin, some other reliability glitches like the batteries, and too much on the infotainment vs buttons. Seems like you have conquered the infotainment! So - for a 60 year old bachelor, would you suggest an Outback XT or a CX-5? I'm leaning toward the CX-5 GTR which is comparable to the Limited XT. Would get a trailer hitch bike rack. What say you??
