I have looked at many videos of tiny houses and most seemed cold and uncomfortable; especially the living area. This cottage was oozing with personality, warmth, style and grace...If I lived alone, it would be a place that I would never feel alone because it has so much personality. I adored all the nooks and crannies, especially the "man cave!" I would rename it my "woman cave!" Finding something like this in Houston would be a true "diamond in the rough."

I built a tiny home and we lived in it for 5 years. The largest home we have lived in was 2200 square feet. Now we live in an 800 square foot small home. I have worked on houses where the Master suite was 1500 square feet. From my experience, I would have to agree with you. A house between 600 and 1000 square feet is big enough to live in without feeling like you have been sent to the corner and yet small enough that it is easy and economical to maintain. Same here. I lived in a large, ranch style home as a kid growing up. Even when I became an adult, it always felt too big. We moved into a smaller home and I actually liked it better. I'm just a cozy type person tho..fireplace going, cute comfy furnishing and enjoying good company. I dont need a manchion bc it's just a glorified storage facility 😐

I agree, cozy doesn't have to be cramped or have unusable space. All of our kids are grown and it's just the 2 of us with our dog. I would LOVE to live in a house like this or very similar in a quiet spot. It will do my head, heart and soul good. I can't handle the noise like before.

Loved this little cottage and thought many of the negative comments far too critical for the 'mechanics' done for our viewing and information. The only complaint I'd consider serious is the layout of the kitchen, especially can't imagine canning with almost NO counter space esp.next to the stove !!! Excellent idea on switching dining / living room space! ALSO the upper level shows lots of 'master bedroom' space ... (silly complaint! as well as 'supervising children'- i like keeping my little ones safe & happy!) This video was a colorful treat !! =) Thank you for posting. Really loved seeing it!

I like this. My husband and I bought a 500 square foot home. One level. We have no children. However, it was 2005 when we bought the house. In 2013 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and now I am in a wheelchair. It's very hard to maneuver myself through the doorways. She is right when she says you need an outdoor get away. I wheel myself onto the front porch everyday. Mostly for my sanity! Lol. The house is white painted clapboard with a brand new green metal roof. A year after we moved in, my husband installed a white wooden picket fence with an attached arbor. The comments regarding the fence were overwhelming! We call our home Harmony Breeze Cottage. Just a little piece of happiness I wanted to share.

Absolutely. Cabins, cottages can be super versatile. This looks much more comfortable than some of the tiny houses I have seen. Even when I was renting my biggest thing was room for the piano and possibly a china hutch.

I live in a small 540 sf studio apartment, which is to the side of someone's home. I have my own adorable patio with a nice gate which locks with a deadbolt, a separate entrance off of the patio with a security screen (making it feel safe enough and comfortable enough to sleep with my front door open). It comes complete with a stackable washer and dryer, two closets and a kitchen with lots of storage and a full-size refrigerator, as well as a full-size bathroom. I'm very happy here in my little haven :) I have always loved the tiny homes, but as for myself, I think a home with a 500 sf range work best.

We had a large old victorian house but my mom likes those cut outs too. She asked her husband (the guy I called dad) to cut a hole in between the living room and the kitchen (saying she's social too if people are over she would like to not feel trapped in the kitchen like the maid). He said sure no problem (but of course weeks went by) she went and took an ax (he's a construction worker he had a whole shed full of tools) and she cut a hole in the wall. Really ticked him off saying why would you do that now we have a hole in the wall. She said more incentive for it to get done. Anyway she got her cut out and in the middle a table was made within two days that day included lol. A round table so it served as a dinner table as well as a cutout where we could all converse back and forth. I miss that house I lived in it until I was 18 from the time I was four. It was a great idea and it saved on having to get a table by doing that. It didn't need legs because the wall served to keep it up.

It was beautiful when he finished though. He only did it because the hole just sitting there on the wall was ugly and he didnt want his friends seeing it lol.

Raymond Etheridge You guys say that, but my grandfather grew up on 3 room shack with eight kids. 2 bedrooms, 1 for the boys, 1 for the girls. The main room had the kitchen/dining/ living room and my great grandparents bed. Don't tell me you can't fit 8 kids on a small space. We did it 100 years age, and people generally turned out fine.

I am honestly shocked at some of the prices on tiny homes. I bought my house, 720 sq ft on 1/3 acre for 49K. Plenty of room for me, the dog and the cat. I have had to put money into the house, but I can do things as I can afford it without being chained to a mortgage payment for 30 years.

Yes, the prices of tiny homes are insane. I purchased a 570' small cottage on an acre of land in the woods, near a river in a beautiful area. IT has 250' covered porch, and a 110' sleeping loft, bedroom, 110' shed, root cellar and carport. I bought it for 65K . It did not need much work - for me it was about painting, and adding new appliances. It came with all appliances but I bought new ones. I add to it here and there to personalize it as i see fit. I have my 8x18 tiny home parked on my land also. I may use that as a guest house one day or move it to another location to create a get away. i paid 10K for my tiny home and added upgrades on my own. I hope people stop and consider that it may be a better idea to purchase a real home instead of one on wheels that is way over priced.

Darrell barron Most of those starting prices are without upgrades. They charge extra for customising the tiny house to make it comfortable. Without those upgrades, a tiny house is not much better than an ice shack. The cost piles up when all the upgrades are factored in.

Chaz Evansdale For ability to build small due to lack of code or code enforcement there is most of Alaska, half of Missouri, one county in each Arizona and Idaho, and still several houses built smaller than 800 sq ft all over the U.S. that were built small before building code mandated a larger size for the banks(especially in gulf states)...

We had a closet so big it held a vanity and small chest in addition to the clothes for 2 people! 5 bedrooms, 2 dens, dining room, a front parlor. We couldn’t wait to get smaller house...Goodwill and a thrift store nearby got really lucky! Our kids and grandkids don’t live there any longer. It just seemed so wasteful. Made in America! I used to build log cabins for a private contractor in Northern California. Kits and custom. He was really good, and he even had people in South Korea fly him over there to teach them how to build log cabins. Sadly, I'm no longer in touch with him and last I heard he was in bad health. Doesn't seem to be a very big market anymore, sadly.

Just so you know Carpet is an insulator. I'm on my 3rd house with hardwoods and it's much colder in the winter on hardwoods than it is for the carpeted rooms.

I agree. And we have pets. We have wood floors and then we use a throw carpet in the area of the living room where we set. It is colder, but I'd much rather have it a little cooler and be able to just sweep and mop every thing clean. I don't care how often you clean carpets, unless you live totally alone and have no life, the things are nasty. That's been proven. They can hide mold and mildew too. And carpet is really expensive when you consider how easy it is to ruin.

Keith U Keith, carpets are not easy to keep clean even if you're a clean freak like me. Area rugs are actually easier since they can be switched out after awhile or cleaned and allowed to dry seperately.... If you clean a carpet with a professional machine thoroughly you can't walk on it until it's completely dry, which isn't practical. We had carpets in the house we bought and got rid of them ASAP. They might be fine in some rooms but harder to keep clean in high traffic areas, such as a living room or den. And studies have shown carpets have things in them you can't even see with your eyes, even if you keep your house clean. I'd suggest someone putting down new floors, put in a heated floor system IF that's in their budget to do, instead of carpet. if not, use area rugs where the floor gets coldest; OR a combination of heated floors AND area rugs, is the best.

She wasn't trying to sell the house, just staying the night with her family. She was kind enough to give us a tour, which she didn't have to. If it was YOU or ME doing a walk thru, we would be critiquing various things from our own point of view and how we could personalize it. Actually, if you ever did a walk thru with a real estate agent, both the agent and the client would be doing the same thing. Again, she wasn't trying to sell the place !!! If you want more info then go to the listing at Air BnB, Cookamonga, Georgia and see if they can do a better presentation. And, NO... it does not have a master bedroom. But, forgive me for saying that one of the areas could be converted. Was that to harsh ??

Funny you mention a master growing up I never knew anyone that had a ‘master suite’. I never knew anyone that had two bathrooms either. Lol. I just sold my 3 bedroom, 3 bath home and downsized to a vintage farmhouse that is 570 sq ft. It is perfect for one person. Years ago many local families lived in my farmhouse before it had electricity and before there was a running water and a bathroom. Amazing. I also bought a tiny home for 10K, about 3 years ago for emergency preparedness. It is really sweet, 8x18' with 2 lofts. But it is WAY TO TINY for me to live in full time unless I ran out of all options. I also have a few friends that have already up sized from their tiny homes. They are cute but you can go nuts actually living in one. I would advise anyone to shop around and buy a small home instead of going with a tiny home. You will be much more comfortable. Take advice from someone who has had several large home, a current tiny home as well as a current small home. Go small. Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like we have similar lives. My old large home was the same size as yours and now we both have small homes within just a couple of sq. feet of size of each other. I am also in the woods on an acre of land in Western NC. Where are you located?

Yes, small vs tiny is wonderful. I hope more people would consider buying small homes instead of going tiny, After seeing so many people and several friends abandon their tiny homes for small homes, I think tiny home life is only a phase. The price of tiny homes has gone off the charts- as far as expensive. Are you kidding me? With a stick built home you have land and in most cases property taxes are less than renting a LEGAL spot for your tiny home. A small home gives you more space and options. People seem to have fallen for the "dream" of tiny house living. When you are going on 90 days living in a box (especially in the winter months) cute soon becomes cramped. Sweet becomes stir crazy. Imagine years in a box. Some can do it but if you shop around you can find small homes on land at very reasonable prices. I am not downing people for living in a tiny house but if you take time to consider your options you may find a way of life that is much better for you in the long run.

I find cottages charming and functional. I do not like tiny houses. I feel that they are overpriced and not practical. There's little room to move around, there's no room to play for kids, there's no room to sew, or can, they aren't conducive to having a well stocked pantry (which I consider to be essential to running a home). I like cottages and small wartime houses much better for a family. You don't need a 10,000 sq foot mansion, but I suspect that the tiny house movement will lead to a lot of divorces down the road. That's a lot of togetherness.

pennellkay, just curious, what were the 3 rooms? kitchen, living room 1 bedroom? 2 bedrooms and kitchen? Did you count the bathroom, or did you not have one? I once lived in a very small house with another person, in a secluded mountain location. Kitchen/living room/everything else was all one room, there was a small separate sleeping area. We had bathtub outside on a covered porch, and an outhouse down the hill from the house. Big wood-burning cookstove.

We built a small cottage back in 2011. We went with about 1200 square feet and super insulated -- it uses less than a cord of wood to heat in Wisconsin. Like this place, we have the laundry in the kitchen, and will be installing lift-up stairs for storage as well as stair riser drawers later this year. A tiny house would be too small for us, but we wanted to go as small as possible after living in a 3000 square foot beast for our last home.

I'm with ya ladies. I had a huge Victorian farmhouse that was finished on every level B/1/2/A. And I had filled it all up with stuff I enjoyed through the years. Well I sold it and appliances. And got rid of ALOT of the furniture. But I still kept some of my antique stuff, including depression glass, jadite, etc. I've always had a small dog and now 2 cats with it. I haven't even unpacked ALOT of that stuff I kept in this small 2 bedroom house I live in now. It's hard enough keeping up with the cat hair much less dusting the rest of that stuff. I'm retired now and have other interests. I preferred to have a craftroom with cabinets & drawers to keep my stuff in. And a big open area where others can come and play too. I have hardwood floors too. And I love the 2 cats I inherited, but once they are passed no more. Who wants to spend theirs days cleaning all the time? Yuk! It's my time to get out and have fun.

My Persian keeps manufacturing fur knots to the point that I'm afraid of CPS (cat protective services) stepping in and trying to wrench my girl out of my arms because of the entanglement nightmares! I rent a house with the same predicament though. My new landlord (his grandmother can no longer manage all of the properties including the one I'm living in) has been very accommodating despite the scattering of tabby-colored accessories. . Since I resolved myself to spending the final years of my career working for a non-profit organization providing clinical services for little kids, I've found that my income is non conducive to achieving the status of home ownership. Up until about the last year, tiny houses gave me a little hope until the price of living off grid rose to an average over $100,000 for a house on its own land. Unfortunately, contrary to the theory of the pretty woman presenting this video, realistic prices for cottages I've looked at have been even more, and I've checked in areas where housing tends to be much less (which means a long commute to work or one that is really unrealistic. This person appears to have stumbled onto a situation that is the exceptance to the rule (sorry, spell check couldn't help me here!) I do love the idea of living in something a little less claustrophobic, though.

Would've loved to see more of the house...the title is pretty cottage better than a tiny house, but mostly what we saw was your pretty face. You can talk behind the camera (or next to it) while the videographer is shooting, and you can narrate what he is seeing (or better still, you do the videoing and talk about what you're seeing). Just some suggestions ( and I see I'm just one of many making a similar suggestion).

A do have to admit that she makes reference to this place being more family oriented, and that a room designed for a mom to focus on work and family is important too. My kid is grown up now, but I understand what she meant. You have to be able to be in the same room with your kid(s). When my son was growing up, I studied and did all my class work for college in an tiny room, and found that to keep my son safe and engaged in play that was beneficial to him, my being there with him was inherent to my goals as a mom and as a student despite my being distracted by his "adventures"! My son has taught me so much even when he was little. He still is my best teacher now that he's 41!

Even with one of those good old Coleman little gas cylinder stores, a couple of pans and a dutch oven FOOD GALORE. I think cooking is an art form anyway.
