Thanks for the solid review, Morgan! I've used a friend's Rabaconda and then wanted one, but they're pretty proud of their equipment, and the pricing shows. I researched the Moose version and found very few differences. The things noticeable were the built-in tire iron holder and the little tabs to help push the bead lock in on the Raba. Otherwise, virtually identical. Same length and leverage on the bead breaker, same adjustable rim supports. As you mentioned, the Raba has rubber feet, but I do like that the Moose have a wide plate under each of the three legs, so you can stand on them and get better foothold when you're working up against the tire. If you have the money, you can get either. If you have a budget, and still want a quality tool, I have not been disappointed with the Moose version for $200-ish less. They will both eventually pay for themselves vs. shop prices - Moose will just do it sooner.

I've used several different tire changers and I think solid technique makes the biggest difference. They all get the job done. I have and like the zip ty DGTT the best, using a combination of tire irons Raba and zip ty. The Raba packs up nice for travel. But I don't need that as mine stays at home.

I looked long and hard at these and others a few years ago - the Rabaconda is quality kit compared to the copies like the Moose. Worth the extra? If you have the money then maybe but the Moose will do the job. In the end I ended up buying a TMT5 from Kauritmoto in Estonia. That was big money but an absolute joy to use, beautifully built and will last a lifetime I'm sure. It definitely makes changing easier than even the Rabaconda - it's all done standing and you use your more powerful leg muscles for demounting. Better for tubes than the Rabaconda-type too - less chance of a pinch flat. As I said the Kauritmoto is expensive even compared to a Rabaconda so don't buy it if you only change a few tyres a year but I've never regretted the investment.

I am still curious about the mousse system - guys out here in AZ swear by it. Man- I have been using tubliss for the last year- never had a flat yet... It is not like I mess with the air pressure for traction but I have to air my high pressure side a few pounds every ride. From my experience Tubliss is finicky. I am not a hard enduro guy- just love riding the desert.
@highlandcycles
@highlandcycles 2 жыл бұрын
Rick, you need to try mousses. Just do it once. The very worst that happens is that you get 2 or 3 sets of tires out of them with zero possibility for flats and you are out about $300 and you go back to tubliss. I LOVE not carrying any kind of tire tool and not having to check any pressures.

I only use WD to mount. The lube for the mousse is not for mounting. It is for keeping heat down. The WD is good for mounting because it dries up and goes away and the tire doesn't slip as much on the rim.

So no lube on the rim? It just gets in there later? I’ve been making a big mess then also using two tubes per rear tire. And I use two rim locks on the rear, it’s been a real pain in the ass even with the Rabaconda. I’ve been using a grease gun on the air chuck to regrease the tire halfway through to help the mousse last longer. Thanks for the vid, gonna try WD40 and your grease method next tire 👍

While it definitely helps get the old tire off faster via the arm, I don't see what all it does for you beyond just being a stable stand for putting it back on. Having 5 good irons helps as well, but for the rim lock, I prefer to use a slide clamp to push it in while getting the bead under it. Also easier to do the rim lock earlier than at the very end.

Hi guys, At Rabaconda we rarely use the loops actually ourselves. We just push in the rim lock with a tire iron against the brake disc. So much faster and easier. Done that for 10 years now. You can use the loop as well, but if the mousse is very stiff the center spindle might bend while simply pushing the whole wheel away, not rim lock into the mousse. In this case you can put your knee against and pull the tire iron towards your knee. More stable

I’ve had one for a couple of years and only got round to using it this week. Anyway removal of tyres with mousses is easier than having a shit. I honestly don’t think you should be allowed to buy this tool until you’ve submitted video evidence to Rabaconda of you struggling on the floor swearing, sweating and bleeding; preferably in the heat of summer.

Is it realistic that a man carries a gun while changing a tire...?

Hahaha. Not really except that I like to have one on or near me all the time. Call me crazy but I’d rather have it and not need it.

F that buy a weaver machine. Practice on how to use it. A 21 front dirt tire takes 10 min to change after u learn how to use it. And no workout. Im old too friend. I change 100"s of bike tires a year. Street and dirt.

The Rabaconda is worth every dollar...even for regular tire changes. The Moose replica is complete garbage. Spend the extra $150 and get the real deal.

Complete garbage? Could you be more specific? Were there any differences between the two tire changers that Morgan may have missed? Apparently he has used his Moose Racing tire changer for years. Seems like he would have tossed it a lot sooner if it was that bad...?

I think I agree but I don’t think the moose is garbage. It has held up to hundreds of changes.

@@MotoTripping Sure. I've owned both. The quality (welds) and the actual fit of pieces is sub par to the Conda. The metal is thicker on the Rabaconda, and the actual arm to apply pressure seems as if it is at a different angle for better press as well. There is a height difference for the mount as well. Will the Moose get the job done....sure. is the Rabaconda better...IMO it is (after owning both).

Hahhaha. I have. But a REAL man gets a job and saves money so he can make his life easier. A modern sissy man lives in his moms basement and can’t afford a nice tire changer. 🤣
