Not really, all comes down to the length. 17.4 boards are even more fun. ;) And you probably had to put in a lot more work on the shorter board than the longer one, doable for 100m but tiresome on longer tours.
@ethanhuffsup Жыл бұрын
@@donnawetter1513 The shorter boards definitely require more effort for speed that's for sure.

I'd like to see the difference between a 14 and 12'6" board as well as different widths on the 14s, like 26 v. 28 in. Those are probably the comparison folks are making in terms of future purchases. Thanks!

Absolutely 👍🏻 If I can get my hands on those range of boards it would make for a great comparison video.

Same here. I'm curious where Starboard Touring models fall. And how far behind racing ones.

I knew the race board was going to be the fastest which makes sense but by that much? I thought you would get max 5 seconds less but 10 seconds less is crazy on just 100 meters. I'm planning on getting a race board after a solid amount of experience with an all round board. The speed with the race board is amazing, the all round isn't slow by any means but even when I compare it to a touring board my mom bought it's a big difference. I'm obviously stronger than my mom so I still can go faster on the all round than her on the touring board but comparing that I'm putting all of my strenght into it while she is slowly paddling it's already a big difference, she almost keeps up with me even when I go all in and she paddles slowly. The race board would be absolutely amazing, I could see traveling long distances on it without being tired. Can't wait for summer this year.

Been watching some of your stuff to help prep for my first race in the fall. Already learned i was holding the blade the wrong way and my strokes are too long. Thanks man, keep up the good lessons! Any tips for a first race are helpful!

Thanks Chris and I'm stoked you're about to do your first race! There's a lot that goes into it but be sure to do plenty of easy paddles to improve your paddling economy and then at least 1 harder fast pace paddle workout every week to improve your VO2 max.

@@ethanhuffsup great advice! Its a biathlon so im trying to do 2 runs and 2 paddles a week. Tough with young family but im working on it!

What was your rest time between runs? If you're running consecutively with little rest time. I would expect your sprint time to decrease over timed event.
@ethanhuffsup8 ай бұрын
Rest was around 15min. So, plenty of time to rest up, but can be improved by repeating the same test on another day with the board order in reverse.

Since after a full season I've upgraded to a touring board, I own both regular and the touring one. Did some testing myself with GPS and I my touring board is 1-2km/h faster, but the idea that is behind this board is not speed, but efficiency instead. While going the same speed as a regular SUP - my touring board requires significantly less effort, thus I can paddle for a longer time and travel further without getting tired.

A 10 sec diff isn't terrible. My gf and I are trying to decide on isups, and she's leaning toward a 12' Valwix while I'm looking at an 11' MyBoat. Is she gonna leave me in the dust?
@denisetownshend64395 ай бұрын
Depends on hers and yours fitness level and paddle skill level, a skilled paddler will be faster on the longer board but if theyre both recreational boards at 30 “ wide then it may not be much difference

Could you install an electric motor on such a board and measure the speed in terms of resistance for each of the boards? You could also tow it with a line and use a weight to display the force of board resistance. This will effectively demonstrate the differences in resistance without facilitate power transfer through the paddle :)

Sounds like a fun and effective idea!

I personally enjoy using the Allstar race board overall but for someone with less experience the all around board will be more enjoyable as it’s easier to balance on.

Of course the shape ,length and width determine the speed. The Airline is also the stiffest iSUP. I am not surprised the iSUP Allstar Airline 14’ x 26” is the fastest. You should now compare with a hardboard racer 14’ x 26”. I also consider a real speed result on long distance. Yesterday with inshore winds 8 to 15 knots I paddled my 12,6 Tikhine Wave in a square trip in the total Patong bay. It means little downwind on the first part 34’,side wind 25’, upwind 25’ and sidewind + jetskis and speedboats waves 25’. 3 times 40” to drink. Total distance 13,200km ,total time 1h50’, active time 1h48, average speed 3,95 knots (7,330 kph). My best speed ever on a distance of 10,700 km in 1h17’, average speed 4,5 knots (8,33 kph). Every trip is in my logbook. When I will get my hardboard 14’ x 26” Hypr Racer it will be easy to compare. You can see all my trip reports on my facebook Khun Didi.

Sounds like a fun paddle loop and I agree with you on the importance of keeping a logbook. I won't give away too much, but next month I'll be creating another video featuring an Allstar hard board and a professional. So, stay tuned for that. 🤙

Yeah but you're comparing 14' to 10'6 boards. That's not a fair comparison 😕
@ethanhuffsup2 жыл бұрын
You're correct, it's technically not a fair race since the boards are different sizes. That's part of the reason why I created the video. To simply demonstrate how the race board size and design will out perform smaller all-around boards. I hope you still found the video entertaining and thanks for your great insight. 🤙
