yeah, the fact that theres no zoning rules is a pain in the ass. The only thing you really can do is try and lay out roads ahead of time, lets say if you wanted a gridded city for example. There are two problems with that, though: firstly, you usually don't get enough tiles, especially if you ever take motorways. Second, the game doesn't alert you when the playing area expands, so a house could come along and plant itself right where you needed a road to go, and from that point on there is nothing you can do about it. So you have to really watch the expansion closely.

You can place roads to stop things from spawning where you don't want them to. For example, if you don't want a large building somewhere make sure there is only room for a house to pop up in that area. It's difficult with the limited roads, but can be done to an extent, especially early on in the game.
@OrangeC7
@OrangeC7 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like that's what really makes the game a lot of fun, because it gets exponentially more difficult as time goes on. That's why so many people end up losing at around 1200-1400 trips on the first few maps, because by that point if you have a remotely bad road design you've already lost. (I feel like a really big thing to watch out for is having to change roads around when there's already a traffic jam, because even if the change you made would be good in the long term it could completely screw you over before traffic gets the chance to clear up again)

This gameplay is so aesthetically pleasing. Everything's connected and I love the colors interact. It feels much more alive! I get that the most efficient way is diagonals and by segregating roads by colors and/or making subdivided neighborhoods to avoid long and diverted travels; but that's just if you're grinding for scores. This layout is more fun and I enjoy it better than stressing out strategies to shorten travels and efficiently supplying the demand. It's calm, peaceful, and stress-free. It really gives you the "feels" of playing a game rather than participating in a competition. ❤️

I think the first domino to start toppling everything else was Dark Blue being unable to access their super building very easily. instead of connecting the two houses in the middle with the motorway, you probably would've had way less traffic if you connected to somewhere near the six dark blue houses to the north and left them off your artery and the connected roundabout entirely.

Try to avoid intersections. Red houses only need to go to the red buildings. When a blue houses spawn, I try to get them around and make small areas of Houses-Building. Use diagonals. It saves a lot of road tiles.

Great video. First of yours I've ever seen, enjoyed the commentary. Some constructive criticism: throughout the whole video I struggled to follow what you meant when you said "this", "that" or "over here" ... constantly searching the screen trying to find where a road is changing. In future it might be helpful to specify directions in your voiceover (e.g. "top right")... or highlight an area you're speaking about during the editing process, or perhaps a mixture of the two. For context, I'm watching on my TV with Chromecast, so there's a lot of eye travel trying to find the mouse constantly :) This is my only complaint about the video. Otherwise, I enjoyed it & will definitely subscribe to see more from you :)

It's beautifully and neatly layed out, as much as this game will permit...I think the city planning knowledge does help, at least with aesthetics.

Hello there CPP! This was a really great surprise and I'm so happy about it. The artwork of this game looks so peaceful and makes me remember about the TV show "Bob the Builder". I appreciate that you tried this game. ☺️☺️☺️

Really great video! This is my first time here and will be coming back for more for sure :) It might just be a me problem but I struggle with finding the mouse when you are talking about an area because the mouse is light and the background is light. Playing on nightmode (I think) will help people like me with keeping up :) Great vid again

I spent this entire episode starting aimlessly at the screen because the mouse pointer was entirely too small to see and blended in with the road, but I was still entertained

One of the things that always gets me is once buildings are upgraded to circles cars can't seem to get in and out of the three parking spots fast enought to satisfy the trip requirements. It seems like it would make more sense that if a building gets upgraded then it would get more parking or at least another entrance/exit.

one thing I learned. Cars will always slow down at a 4 way junctoin even if no other cars are there - but if it's only a 3 way, they will not slow down. So if you take a 4th road at a 4 way intersection and just move it over one tile, you'll have 2 3-ways, and no slow down.

I love this game! It's so abstract though, I don't know if actual city planning knowledge helps at all! But what am I saying, Phil did way better than I did.

Just wanted to point something out that maybe might help you in the future. If a game has a light background and the mouse is white, it's really difficult to track what you are doing. Maybe being more descriptive of what you are doing, instead of saying "these businesses", might make it easier. Reducing cuts could also improve this. I'm watching on a phone, so finding your mouse and then a cut happening made it frustrating to watch, as if I were playing eye spy for your mouse pointer.

Idk why, but I've been recently introduced to people who play games that relate to their work, first a cibil engineer and now a city planner! I'm not complaining lol

I bought this game yesterday and I am obsessed. Switching to dark mode makes it easier on the eye. I love the challenge not being able to plan fully brings, though when I have enough roads I will draw in where i want main roads so nothing grows there
