Is the splash guard underneath a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica really worth keeping?

I had multiple cars with/without. What I noticed, is that without shield in cold weather, the engine is cooling down way faster and also takes way longer time to heat up to 90 deg. So the conclusion, it helps on summer to take it off, but as soon the weather is colder, I recommend installing it.

I will try that. Thanks

The plastic stone shield prevents damage to the coatings that prevent rust. And, as I understand it, the shield does little to restrict air flow.

Back in the early days, our cars did not have computers in them… now we have a lot of electrical wires and gadgets that have to be protected from water, dirt, etc. for a very good reason.. especially if you live in the area where there’s ice snow and they put salt that could really damage a lot of metal and you keep the alternator and all your electrical parts as clean as you can with the water in your engine compartment

Also has a small but positive benefit towards aero dynamics

It's there for a good reason, many stated earlier. Won't effect engine running but will lead to earlier repairs down the road. Car was designed for proper air flow in engine bay with shield in place. My shield got damaged and had to replace. I bought the expensive OEM shield as apposed to cheap knock off.

It is mainly there to protect from water splashing to the electronic parts of your engine. You can run without it, but I wouldn't go through large puddles of water.

I would put it back on, keeps dirt and water out . If you live up north road salt. Motor will not run hot with it.

😂 he doesn't keep anything out😂 my engine still has dust all over it. And the damn thing keep heat soaking my starter. I replaced this starter three times

One thing it will do is during rain it will keep water off of your belt. Which when your belt gets splashed it can cause your steering to violently jerk. Which could cause you to wreck or run off of the road. I had this happen to me. It took me a while to figure out that a splash guard had been removed. Once I fabricated one n installed it my problem went away. I'm sure there are other reasons for the splash guard, but that was my experience.

They do trap salt in the northern parts of country where salt is used which rots out the engine carriage and other metal parts under shield. When removing tshield to change oil, spray all the metal parts down with rust preventative before replacing shield to help reduce this problem.

I’m getting one for my 2012 Town & Country. Reason being is my alternator has been fried and replaced 4 times in 2 years because of getting splashed by water during rain storms. Thank God for AutoZone warranty.

When it rain and you run over water it gets in your belt and messes up your water pump and alternator pulleys it’s there for a reason ❤

up to your preference. I would keep it. Improves aero dynamics and keeps your engine compartment clean. Also more stock/factory/OEM

I agree. Im taking mine off soon

@2WheelDerness. Agreed. Those are the logistics of that shield. Also, protect it from all the rust that would not normally accumulate.

As soon as they break I remove them. I don't live in a rainy place so they're really not necessary for splash guard with big puddles and lots of rain Drivers go screaming through puddles and splash way too much water underneath their car so to prevent problems installing they install these
@nosonfontenot30725 ай бұрын
don't drive through puddled water or rain without it. Your belts and pulleys will squeal like crazy. Keeps water off the pulleys.

In the 1960s and 1970s we never had them your rigth they just hold heat in engine bay. Your right you do not need it.
@kjantv36492 ай бұрын
but manufacturers did add it right? so there must be something from their experience in the 70s and 80s that told them to put it right?

@@kjantv3649 I have a honda civic, 2017, with splash tray dropping today, making a scary noise when I was driving on the highway. I had my oil changes done mainly at a dealership. Nobody ever brought up the need to tighten this shield. Well, guess what, new OEM part costs $200 plus $200 installation at a dealer. I now this those mf'rs purposely fked the part up so that I pay for the repairs. The car is now 7 years old. I'm sure it would do fine without that splash guard.

Only necessary during winter sun. Just to make sure you protect all the electronics and the engine bed and everything like that from dumb shit on the road and stuff like snow salts, and everything in the sand that they put on the roads little corrode and fuck up your engine or in the winter
