Historically, there were tomahawk that were made purely as weapons. The blades were more like spears. Traditionally chopping style tomahawks were always tools first that people pushed into being weapons out if necessity. But anytime you can take the best parts of a tool and make it a better weapon, you've got a something truly formidable. Also lightweight is generally the strength of the tomahawk over the hatchet. Having a weaponized hawk be light as possible is totally a benefit. People often to load up and take big swings, but snapcuts from the wrist are really where it's at. But yeah definitely a cool product. Great job to the craftsman

My only concern with this tomahawk is how long and how curved the back spike is. It's a fantastic looking piece but if I were genuinely going to fight with it, I'd want a poll or a shorter back spike. I think that much curve to the back spike would make certain techniques more of a danger to the wielder.

The downside though would be no hooking. Just like with kama, the hook and maneuver techniques get lost. Granted I never got into a tomahawk fight, but when I sparred with dummy kama back in the day, being able to hook someone and put them where you wanted them was a nice feature of it.

With these tomahawks, they are lightweight based, so that the usage for the hawks are to flick at the wrist rather the typical wind up. In that regard, having the bigger backripper hawk, there is minimal danger from said hook.
@ferrisbueller9991

Id be more comfortable is it was longer to but carry friendly option becomes compromised. Perhaps the handle could extend, as if the bottom of it is where a knife would come out but instead it is extra handle. Like the handle close is two pieces with one in the middle and the two can swing down, the middle handle being a hard steel. Or... you could keep something you can screw on the bottom on your other side... yeah that is far less convoluted and not hard to envision. But anyway, in self defense the only attackers tool I see being scary is a baseball bat. Yeah, youd have to run or close the gap fast. Anyway the designer has bigger ones. Not bigger versions of his but less carry able but still able to be carried tomahawks. And with the baseball bat guy... you could always throw it... I mean it was designed to be thrown and with practice... thats why we carry 2. Or just a regular pocket knife.

I feel like calf shots with that while you have someone tied up in a clench would be the most brutal. You would make them practically immobile, all you would need to do is step back and call 911 (assuming this is self defense). Also that hook could disembowel someone real bad.

If you were ever to lose the sheath you know you can make a new from PVC or leather. But also from 8mm paracord/polyprop line. Just tie (not just wrap) around the blade from the base to the tip. If there are gaps, go back and fill in the gaps with more passes. Then "snip and cinch". Melt the ends together down at the base. Then just have a metal object at hand and heat the tied wrap of 8mm polypropline. Press it all over. Many tools like pliers or scissors have no sheath but still poke holes in your pockets after awhile. This method is easy, no leather, no pvc pipe of the right dimension is needed. No weird pointy part of vegetation cutting tools is shown to the public so they can't react with hysteria :"Oh he's got a knife!!" Anyway great upload thx!

Just to point out that the bearded axe type tomahawk is useful for parrying, hooking and controlling an opponent's weapon or shield - you don't have to reverse it to hook the other guy's shield like you would with the Wingard. Though that said, you could as easily reverse it & use the spike on the back-side of the fasthawk to do what the front side of the Wingard does, but with more weight behind it to punch through skulls.

Very true, but the only people who still use shield walls are riot control officers. I really don't think a decent, or even sane human would really ever attack them with an axe. Hooking capabilities definitely had a place when shields were common, but today i suspect they are more of a liability. Beyond the obvious 'getting stuck in someone's clothes' , imagine you had to defend against a baseball bat or axe handle or steel pipe. When parrying with a bearded axe you would run a high risk of accidentally hooking the heavier weapon and having your axe yanked out of your hand. Historical axes never had this problem, because they were never intentionally used for parrying, the shield took the defensive role.

Yeah that might be a bit difficult. A prosecutor would probably have a field day with that. But i guess if u are willing to take those chances, and feel that u can adequately explain that you would have been killed if u hadn't of used the hooked tomahawk of death and destruction on your assailant..then maybe its a weapon to be considered? For me personally, i think if I'm in the kind of danger that would call for a weapon that can create that kind of bodily harm, id just rather use my .45 instead tho. Somehow I feel that would be easier to defend in court than a tomahawk.

After watching this and seeing just HOW MUCH he absolutely LOVES that thing, at the end, after the outro and we get to see him just playing/practicing with it. It LITERALLY scared me for him because of how close he was getting to himself with the hooked spike end, like I will say even though he was being fast with it, I could still tell he was making sure not to get hung up on the spike again, but still, there ware 2 times it ACTUALLY scared me watching because he was being so enthusiastic about it that he did come EXTREMELY close. So close that I know if he wasn't being as mindful as he was and if he DIDN'T already have that small brush with it snagging his shirt, that I know for a fact that if it was someone else or especially ANYONE that isn't trained and still practicing mindfully martial arts, they would have ripped their own throat out with it, since it has that curve to it to help with it's concealability. And to be honest I bet he had at least one more close call with it off camera even with him being mindful. I hope some people don't take this the wrong way and think I'm dumping on him or the weapon, because I'm 100% NOT. I've been a long time fan of his for a while (Hell, I even resubscribed to him after my last accident got hacked a few years back, so if anyone would try to say that I'm not a fan of his, I think that alone would dismiss that claim. Lolol) and I actually really really DO like the concealable tomahawk and the guy that made it has an amazing mind! But what I DO think is if someone doesn't have a good amount of practice with that this, they are DEFINITELY going to hook themselves, ESPECIALLY if they actually DO have to pull it out to defend themself because anything can happen and it seems that things happen for the worst when someone gets into that sort of situation. Like the people that EDC Airsoft guns instead of ACTUALLY getting their permit (And I know what you're thinking, but yes, I swear they exist, I've personally seen not just 1, but 3 different people, and 2 of them were when I was in totally different states! I thought it was the dumbest shit I ever saw and heard when I met the first one and thought they were just a little special and let it go. But once I saw that it wasn't just that one dude.... Things totally flipped in my mind about a lot of random people, especially the ones that choose to open carry in states that allow you to do both.) When shit hits the fan.... Like what the hell are they going to do??? And it's even worse when people that EDC and HAVEN'T had any training. I guess that's what it all comes down to. Please, if you're going to EDC something for protection, PLEASE for the love of God if for not just yourself but at very least the people AROUND you, please please 🙏🙏 train and learn whatever you EDC with inside and out.

One of the best things of the tomahawk is the ability of being able to hook and pull a person into the other weapon, like a big knife, so you can take advantage of 2 handed fighting technique. Having the ability to hook is preserved in this tomahawk while at the same time preventing the unintended accidental tying up of the weapon while it is being deployed. Fast, nimble and light in combat is better then slow and hard to control.

@hard2hurt So, Mike it seems like you may just want a mining type pick instead of a blade. Reason being the long pointed edge would be able to peirce and retract easily. Also, sure you can quick draw the top of the weapon, but you still have to be able to grip it correctly. Seems like that would be an issue.

The tomahawk in this video is the Empress by Wingard Wearables. You can get one at www.wingardwearables.com/ This is not a sponsored ad or anything, I just thought this guy was cool and his product was interesting so I bought and reviewed it. Keep in mind that this weapon is not rated for robots.

It's a self defense tool. He came at me and I defended my self. You think that conversation is easier when you have a gun?
@Sam-dc9bg
@Sam-dc9bg 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ashtor1337 Yes. Just like I think it is easier to explain why someone used a gun (which I assume they have a permit for) as a self defense weapon, than for them to explain why they were carrying around a katana. Why? Because I think people are more used to the idea of guns being a self defense weapon and it is easier to come across as not crazy when you do what people are used to. I am just an arm chair expert though. My opinion with no proof.

I agree with the advantages of not having a beard, but having done weapon sparring with axes, the tradeoff is that you're losing a lot of hooking capabilities. I think I would also prefer the wider chopping face compared to the pointed spike that this model has, just due to the type of cutting involved.

wouldn't the other side give you just as much if not more hooking capabilities? I could see that being great for hooking out weapons

Best Weapon Combos I thought of. Rifle across chest. Sawed off shotgun on right hip. Hatchet/tomahawk with a small 10 foot chain so you can pull it back, use the chain for entangling or whatever stored on the right behind the shotgun on the hip (so you can still tilt the shotgun and shoot it from the hip because its in front). And a bladed Baton Sword on your left hand with an entangling sword catcher buckler over the hand area of the baton sword, with ability to screw the sword off the baton and replace it with 5 foot long skinny lightweight jabbing blade and tie the back part of the baton to the elbow (you can just let go of the baton sword if you need to use your left hand). And then six gun shooter on the left hip. Oh aand a spiked blade at the forehead part of your helmet for headabutting. And 2 spikes on the FRONT of the shoulders for shoulder butts to the face when standing wrestling.

I used to open carry the Traumahawk from Zombie Tools on the regular, because I couldn't strap a knife to my pant leg when I was wearing a kilt, so sometimes I'd just sling my axe from my hip. It wasn't hard to draw quickly because I trained to, but the main thing with open carry in my experience is that it's about intimidating people who might normally try something. Nobody's gonna rob a dude with a big knife or an axe unless they've got a gun, and they have the drop on them, you know? That does look like a wicked piece of work tho- cool weapon.

Historicly, tommahawks are multi use tools. The beard on an axe has a purpose in combat it is used to hook a persons shield as a tool the beard is used to hook brush or choke up on the axe for fine work where you need more control.

Cool stuff. In the EU I'm sure it's illegal to carry a tomahawk. But there's one minor or not so minor thing to consider for self defence tools, and that's blood. I don't have a clue about firearms regarding that detail though.

The only things i would change about the tomahawk design is add a finger choil at the head so it could be choked up and use jabs. The other thing would be a shorter spike about an inch or 2 to prevent the shirt thing and to eliminate the curve

So as an everyday carry a tomahawk is just a bit overkill for me, but like if I also needed it for chopping objects then I’d carry a self defense one as in one that can be thrown accurately. I do really like wingard tho, I follow him on Instagram and have spoken to him before. His designs are smart and practical. That release from the holster was sweet, I totally get your reaction.

I saw you using it overhand Mike, but try reverse gripping it with the crescent side facing towards your body. It greatly increases striking speed, and doesn't make you commit to a overhead swing. You can also use a high guard that way putting it overhead
