What a thorough explanation of the service that so many have recommended, but none have shown us exactly how it works. Did I miss the part about how "Deposit Checks" works?
@GringosRUs2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ann! No, you didn't miss it, because we don't have any to show, however there is a small fee that they charge to do an electronic deposit for a check to any bank. The banking information can be set up in the user setting. The fees for services like check deposit, mail holds, mail forwarding, package forwarding, etc are available before signing up. Hope that helps. 🙏

Thank you, both! Great walkthrough into the setup and the service after you sign up :). We will most likely go with TM, but need to do a bit of research since we'll keep IL as our residency. We'll use your link if we decide on TM :). I hope all is going or went well for you in SD!!!

Thank you very good information. We were going to use a PO Box. Or one of our children’s address, this might be better so we can find a state that doesn’t tax your retirement money.

Very informative video. You clearly explained how the process works. It was kind of difficult for me to see the screenshots but my eyes aren’t the greatest. We live in California but will be moving to Ecuador. We want to keep our driver’s license, so happy to hear they have addresses here. Did you have to go to South Dakota to get your license? Thanks for the effort you put into this.
@GringosRUs Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Johnney. Yes we did have to go to South Dakota to get our licenses. They have a great casino just north of Sioux Falls that had great rooms and were very affordable. The only issue we ran into is that sometimes, some of the people at the South Dakota Dept. of Public Services have issues with some of the mail services addresses. We have had subscribers use Traveling Mailbox and had no problems getting a license. Not in our case though, we had to get a second service with Dakota Post to facilitate that need. Good luck with the move to Ecuador. That sounds like a big adventure!

@@GringosRUs Thank you for your reply. I was just checking out some of your other videos. We checked out Mexico for residency, really loved it a lot but couldn’t afford the financial requirement. Then we checked out Ecuador and much less financial requirement was needed for our Pensionado visas. So we bought an apartment, trying to get rid of 48 years of possessions, trying to sell our place and will be moving in January with our 4 cats. Looks like you are enjoying Mexico!

If you only get a few pieces of mail a year as most cause everything is now electronically. A lot of places like here in Chapala MX they have shops as I shop you can send mail from or receive packages from Amazon.
@GringosRUs2 жыл бұрын
That is true, but for us, this is more about maintaining an address for tax, work and automobile purposes. 🚘 We don't plan to have them forward any packages to us in Mexico.
@localone15972 жыл бұрын
Great video. So to initially get started. Once you have the account set up, then you go to your local post office where you physically lived to have mail forwarded?
@GringosRUs2 жыл бұрын
The form required by Traveling Mailbox is the USPS mail forwarding form. That form is only good for a year, so they recommend that you complete a change of address form from USPS for longer than a year. That was an additional step that we took. Hope this helps. 🙏

How do they handle packages? Do they forward it to you in another country?
@GringosRUs Жыл бұрын
Yes. We have them hold them until there are enough pieces of mail that we actually need the physical copies and then they will Fed Ex them to us. For most things though a scan of the item is really all that we ever need.
@GringosRUs Жыл бұрын
Also, received packages should be sent to you with the main South (North?) Carolina address. We noticed even with our South Dakota address, the shipment of our mail to Mexico with FedEx was processed through their Carolina location.

Hello question how come you Didnt go consulate in Raleigh NC?
@GringosRUs2 жыл бұрын
Hi! At the time we were making our initial plans, Raleigh was not accepting appointments, and we were 30 minutes closer to Atlanta, so our plans were for Atlanta. Then, we decided to try McAllen, since they have the lowest financial requirements for temp residency. We are spending a couple of months in Kansas City with family before heading to Mexico, so NOW we are trying them first, and McAllen as a backup plan. It was going to be a 4 1/2 hour ride to Raleigh (in the opposite direction), so that and no available appointments were the biggest reasons. We are hearing these days that Raleigh has be great and now it's Atlanta with no appointments. It seems to change constantly.

We will be in Mexico for five months then will want our mail to go back to our home in KC. We don’t plan to change our address with our utilities or credit card company. I’ve noticed that some companies get info from the USPS, even if you don’t notify the company. What do we do when we return to the US? Do we cancel our forward or do we do another change of address? Thanks!
@GringosRUs2 жыл бұрын
Well, we do know when we completed the USPS form at Traveling Mailbox, it was only good for up to 1 year. There was a note that if you were forwarding for more than a year that you needed to complete a change of address at the post office, so we did both. You are certainly forwarding for less than a year, so you should be able to just stop the forwarding service to get your mail back to your home address. That's tricky on the companies that just auto update your mail, though. You may have to manually keep track of those and request that they update THEIR records when you get back home (unless you really don't want them finding you anyway 😉).
