Is AG re-releasing Nanea + Maryellen? Caroline and Addy? Dressing my dolls & speculation video!

I’m always excited for new historical fashion releases. I didn’t start collecting AG dolls until 2022 and missed out on so much. I like Summer and her rainbows, lol, but her meet outfit is disappointing in the design. If she came in jeans or shorts with rainbow details, that might have been better. I wish AG would release Summer’s friend in 2025 with a new face sculpt. I also wish they would re-release Addy with bangs or update the CYO generator with a bangs option.

@@nettiezdolls6742 agreed with all of this! A jeans outfit would have been so much cuter (and probably would have sold better in the winter!). Addy molds with bangs are always SO CUTE 😍

Unfortunately when I started with AG collecting in the early-mid 90s, I just threw all of the outfits into a plastic bin. Now I am trying to sort out all of the outfits including undergarments, socks, shoes, hats etc. Some of the items I have no idea what it goes with. I wish someone, somewhere would put together a web site or book showing the outfits completed with close up details of the proper hats, socks etc. with changes through time that came with that particular outfit. Wiki (with the constant pop ups, ugh) and Playthings sites are not detailed enough for me or updated. Sometimes I use ebay to identify items. What do you all think? Does anyone know of a good site to check out? Thanks in advance.

@@buffmontana4203 that's a great idea! I agree that AG wiki is not great- the ads pretty much make the website unusable. I tend to either use KZbin videos or old catalogues to figure things out. There are uploads of them online for free!

I don’t believe the new journal type format is specifically for younger children. They are for ages 8 and up brought up in a visual, video oriented world. The heavy illustrations and fast reading writing style visually brings children back to reading about the characters. AG is a store for dolls and other play products. The books have been overlooked and under read. There are also “I Can Read” leveled readers for younger children for several characters. I also would not specifically recommend Nanea’s books to the young children who may want the doll. It is about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the United States entry into World War 2. Molly’s books are about World War 2 from a distance. It is more about rationing and women working. Nanea was a closer view of WW2.

@@TrobertABQ hmmm I was already into learning about WW2 when I was like 6 😆 have you read Nanea's books? They really are not as dark as it may seem. Children 5-8 are already reading about so many human tragedies- genocides, the Titanic, Pompeii, civil war, etc. Not to mention that children all over the world are still experiencing human atrocities- it's important not to sanitize history. I think Nanea's books present Pearl Harbor in a developmentally appropriate way. I just think the plot points are kinda boring lol

I read a lot of books about world war II as a child I loved the dear America series. Although I'm neurodivergent I love historical fiction.

I am really hoping for more historical stuff in the new year! I was just talking to my sister about how Nanea and Rebecca in particular don’t have any everyday outfits so I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed! Most of the characters haven’t gotten anything new in years, and last year there was really only the couple of Julie things and then just rereleases. Samantha also briefly sold out during the holiday season so I wonder if she will get a journal as well. I would be really surprised to see Caroline come back but there are things I’d love to be able to buy from her collection. Fingers crossed for more historical releases🤞

@ I have read both of Nanea’s books. My mother grew up in Honolulu (after 1952) and lived there when the Pearl Harbor Memorial was built in 1962. I spent time a few years ago learning about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and have several Life Magazines from the time period, including the one published at the end of December in 1941. Every year I remember both December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001. I also was an elementary teacher. Regarding Nanea’s books, I go by what Pleasant Rowland advocated for, which is over age 8 and being able to understand history. I believe it is important to discuss relevant and historical topics in a way that is appropriate for the child. I also believe that many children are either highly sensitive to violence or completely numbed by what they have been exposed to. Younger children may get the words but they may not fully understand what they meant in the real experience. The bombing of Pearl Harbor has a relevant place in history that includes the strategies of the Japanese, the deaths caused by sinking ships, and Japanese internment camps.

I want to read the melody book. I’m sad it was a disappointment for you. Is the beforever melody book the longest version? Or was that abridged? I would definitely want to read the long version to give it a shot.

@@NightwingAquaman I was referring to the longest version. I like the abridged versions of the books better actually because they have illustrations and take out a lot of filler content that doesn't add much to the story. Melody's books are not bad per se, just in comparison to the other book series, hers seem very immature. For example, her and her friends/family randomly break out into song...it feels like high school musical a lot lol

@@kerrysmiles to clarify, I don't mean people don't sing in their everyday life- I do too! It's more the way it's written, a group of people will all burst into song and dance all at the same time and all say and dance the same thing (like a musical), which is less realistic!
