What do you think the difference is between incremental and iterative? Do you see how this could apply to your projects? I'd love to know, so let me know in the comment section below 👇

Fantastic explanation with excellent graphics to get the point across. I just love the idea of 'fidelity' ... it's a very useful term to express what we mean by MVP (which can be very different from what a business may think of when they hear the phrase MVP).

Such a great usage of graphics - and very clear/concise explanation AGAIN! I have a question regarding a specific scenario: In a company-wide project where a big-bang release is planned, is it still sensible to approach it incrementally and iteratively, even though we won't actually release any features to production until everyone is ready? P.S You should come back to KZbin :)
@TheAgileBroadcast Жыл бұрын
Going back to KZbin is planned ;-)
@TheAgileBroadcast Жыл бұрын
When a big bang release is planned... I would go and cry in a corner 😂 More seriously though, I think it still makes sense to work, at least incrementally. This way. You can mitigate technical risks when they occur. So you can still be incremental and iteratively on a test environment. You won't get feedback from the real usage in prod from real users. But at least, you can check that, technically, the system is sound and works as expected. You can also have (internal) business "users" interact with the test system. Who knows, they might actually decide to release earlier than planned when they see the system working and providing value.

Great video, but just to clear a doubt, is the Unified Process an example of an iterative and incremental methodology? I am having a hard time situating the unified process on that graph relative to the agile methodology.
@TheAgileBroadcast2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Luiz! I'm not very familiar with the (R)UP, but here are my thoughts: the typical description is that it's both incremental and iterative, but this uses a different definition of what those terms mean (as I explain at the beginning of the video). Scrum is also often described that way: It's "incremental" because you get an increment at each iteration. And because we have iterations, it's iterative... sigh. In (R)UP, you have so-called iterations where you might still be doing some requirement analysis late in the project. But I cannot say whether this anaysis is for features that have already been deployed or if it's for features that haven't been implemented at all yet. TL;DR If you follow my definitions of the terms, one cannot tell if it's one or the other or both ; it would depend how it's applied. They key question is: do you revisit a feature more than once during the development process or is it only build once? And when I say "revisit", I don't mean fixing bugs later, I mean consciouly deciding to build some version of it at low fidelity, and working on it again later to increase the fidelity, and again, and again. In a purely incremental approach, you just wouldn't do that. "you're not iterating if you're only doing it once". Hope this helps!?

You got a new subscriber for sure. Can you make another video about the detailed difference between (iterative, incremental &agile) including a real example and when each one to be used, how much the scope to be clear, etc in a summarised way. This is going to be really helpful. 🌸
