i'm a huge AJR fan, but i always love watching other people talk about them online whether or not they like them as a band. i understand that they are corny and annoying a lot, but honestly thats the part that i like about them. music is subjective and thats the best thing about it. good video, also surprised i was in the first 300 people to watch this, bc i know u already have a good amount of online presence, so im surprised this isnt more public lmao

Holy shit we had the same “introduction” to this sound. Weak by AJR, and the human condition by Jon bellion were massive influences for me. I later got really into 2020 Hyperpop, and now botanica, and modern “producer music”. I think self produced music- whether popular or not, is something that I find fascinating. There’s so much raw personality, and I admire it.
@nickisnotlistening2 ай бұрын
yes! self produced artists definitely bring another dimension to the listening experience. i don't think AJR would be nearly as popular or unique if they didn't take control of their own sound in the way they do.

I also loved AJR in high school, for me it was this strange, new music style that i instantly liked. During HS I really related to their reoccurring themes of finding urself after childhood and making trying to make sense of the world around you while doing so. I liked the band so much i flew to see their concert lol ... but yeah, this album (specifically the deluxe version) really shaped my taste in music, and i still really like some of their tracks. Also, banger of a video dude :D

a few months ago i went to an AJR concert with my roommate bc he had an extra pit ticket and invited me, i went into it having barely listened to AJR and not really knowing anything about them but holy shit!! i don’t vibe with all of their music like some people do (and often even find myself cringing at the lyrics or production), however the amount of passion they put into everything they create is amazing and their show is genuinely the best mainstream artist concert i’ve ever been to edit: forgot to mention i’m a *huge* dev lemons and queef jerky fan and have seen you and dev live twice! once as dev’s drummer when she was an opener and once as queef jerky, the main act :) i really think people need to take more risks with music and stop being afraid to sound cringe or annoying!!

I have never heard of this band or album before, so I will listen to it now and write my thoughts as they come. Can we skip to the good part kind of reminds me of your song "Weekly" a bit, thematically and energy wise. Initially, when you mentioned them with 21 pilots name, I was confused as I didn't hear any similarities in the first few songs. Then "Sober Up" came on, which was a jumpscare because I always thought that was a 21 pilots song Why does he keep singing about NOT smoking weed 😭😭 "Call My Dad" made me tear up a little, not gonna lie. I was cringing at the start of "Netflix Trip", but it genuinely grew endearing towards the latter half. Strong close with "Come Hang Out". Overall, I don't think the album was bad, at least not enough to be as notorious as it is. Does it have its lulls? Sure. But it also has a couple of decent songs. Now I am excited to see your analysis of it!

in middle high school i really like ajr. i was a freshman right in the beginning of covid. their music was a big part of what i listened too along with jon bellion. something about the sound was comforting when everything was shut down. i think i liked it a lot also because it was so different from the soft rock and folk rock that my parents would listen to with me so it felt like i really had my own music taste. its nostalgic to listen to this music but ive definitely moved away from this style. i do listen to a lot of hip hop but the style ive (ironically) listened to the most is folk rock and ska.

I also really really enjoyed The Maybe Man (I'd love to hear you listen through it eventually). I honestly really like the falsetto moments. Really, AJR has such a unique singing voice that better fits my voice, since I don't sound like your average radio singer voice. The constructed chaos matches how out of control things feel in my life, and the lyrics of most of their songs fit what I'm going through so well. "Getting a life's a little like dying", "Something's wrong, but I'm scared to look it up", "I'm Hamilton, without the hits". Honestly, I could list so many more quotes.

The “I feel so broke up, I wanna go home” line is probably so moving bc it’s originally from a Beach Boys song lol. But that’s actually great news, bc if you haven’t heard the album Pet Sounds, it’s a total life-changer! I’m late to this but I wanted to say that I got hardcore into AJR in 2020 (to the point that I’ve paid to meet them a couple times since) and sometimes I wonder if the internet’s more recent response to them is what turned me off of their music or if I just grew out of it. Like it’s hard for me not to roll my eyes at some of the lyrics these days and that was not the vibe for me two years ago during some of the same songs. I guess I’m in a chicken or the egg situation with ajr TikTok LOL
