Yes, your question to us at the end is answered by Quran:: "With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated"[56:18-19] The type of wine in heaven is described in multiple verses in the Quran to be a different wine than earthly wine. the wine in heaven for example is described in another verse as delicious unlike the bittern taste of the earthly wine, as well as pure unlike the intoxication that the earthly wine causes "There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, White and delicious to the drinkers; No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated." Interpretation of the Meanings of The Noble Quran 5. Surah Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread with Food) 90. O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, Al-Ansab , and Al-Azlam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitan's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful . 91. Shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain? www.noblequran.com/translation/

Yes, prophet Muhammad had never drank wine at all in his lifetime. However last time, before the forbidden of the drinking of alcohol and other stuffs like smoking druggy leaves and fruits that can cause drunk, Prophet Muhammad's close friends had used to drink wine and such like when his friend Umar Al-Khattab said he used to drink before. Then when the instruction from God to forbid drinking alcohol and to become drunk, then his friends and people at the market poured and threw the wines onto the ground and never to drink again.

I agree that wine 🍷 was forbidden during the time of Prophet Muhammadh ( PBUH ). At first Muslims were allowed to drink alcohol. Then Allah said in Quran that consuming alcohol during the prayer is prohibited. Later in Quran, consumption of alcohol is completely prohibited and Muslims are not allowed to drink alcohol at any time.
@coreybalsano73343 жыл бұрын
Its true. The legal rulings regarding alcohol were revealed in 3 stages in the Quran. First it was permitted, then the ruling to not come to prayer drunk until sober, then to stay away from it all together. Although the Quran acknowledges the benefits of wine it says the harm outweighs the benefits therefore it would be better to refrain until paradise from the Quranic morals. Hence for all Muslims its absolutely forbidden ever since. Also a side note, the Prophet Muhammad (S) never drank wine even when it was permitted.

Shalom alechem assalamu aleikum dear Rabbi. I'm not a scholar, but I heard that the sahaba, followers of Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him, were drinking alcohol in Mecca and also for a period after the migration to Medina, untill one day it was prohibited, because now the muslims were in a safe place, away from their enemies in Mecca and there was not the same pressure of fear, persecution and stress, so therefore no reason to drink to calm rhe nerves and forget a little the troubles. So everyone emptied their winecontainers into the streets of Medina. So much wine was there that the streets were flowing with wine. That is what I heard according to hadith. And Allah knows best.

I was in search for an explanation of whether kosher, like halal, meant "no alcohol." I believe you did answer my inquiry because cooking with food according to Jewish law wouldn't relelitively cause disobedience to the commandments and there for it could be used in food. As a layman, a philosophy and religious studies major, and former Judeo Christian, I would like to contribute to the discussion started by your question, if I may? First, with a position widely agreed by sunni islamic scholars: One of the wisdoms to why Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon Him and may his Allah be pleased with His family and companions, Ameen) chose milk, was because wine only quenches the mind, while milk quenches thirst and satiates the belly. So, there was practicality, in addition to the complete Devine intervention, with His (PBUH) decision. Wine and the Pleasures of of this world compared to the wine and pleasures of this life is a whole other convo and depends on how one hopes and engages in this limited, ever changing, ferocious, time sensitive, and disappointing worldly life. Now, while wine, like gambling, has benefit, the bad of alcohol has always, by large, out weighed the good, which every Prophet (Peace be upon Them All), even before Muhammad (PBUH), has held this position of alcohol being an absolute threat to dignity, leniage, family, the brain, and society. This would logically rule out any ambiguity, grey areas, or relativity. Subsequently, there would be no reason a Prophet would need to quench his mind (or risk walking on the boundaries) since Allah has made his Prophets infallible , determined and focused: fully submit with unwavering faith. They knew there purpose and there connection to Allah was infallible which would make them the best of creation. They were told to relay the message clear and precise, and never was there ambiguity, or relativity with Allah's prohibitions. We only speak and believe the best word spoken of Them, which is why any scriptures that slander the Prophets would be dismissed and considered changed due to translations or conspiracy. I hope this contributes constructively to this 2 year old discussion. Any mistakes I pray Allah corrects them and forgives me. I'd like to hear your feed back about my conclusions drawn about Jewish law, alcohol in food, and Islamic position to whether alcohol was prohibited prior to the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). Thank you so much, Your Brother through Humanity, Cousin by faith.

My question for the learned Muslim, perhaps Mr. Wiz deals with why alcohol was so prevalent in Europe; the water wasn't drinkable! Beer and cider's alcohol content permitted the liquid to be stored and somewhat purified it. "Drinking water" in large cities and concentrated rural areas just wasn't to be trusted; hence, you drank cider or beer...How did the early Muslims, who, had even LESS natural water, get around this, and what a hefty testament to their faith! Shalom/cheers...rr Normandy

Thank you. Very helpful. Jesus said at the last supper he would not drink again of the fruit of the vine until he was in heaven. What we should consider is not just the impairment of our following the 613 mitzvot, but that we are to be a light to the world. Therefore, not only is it a question of being able to 'handle our drink', but to account for any provocation by the world and/or evil. Sometimes we have to abide by laws such as not to drink drive for example, because collectively so many people have otherwise underestimated the influence of alcohol and the potential danger from those that believe they are in control

alcohol is more harshly criticized in islamic hadith than in Quran. there is one verse that undoubtedly says alcohol and gambling is forbidden, but there are other verses that are more complex. like one says "with alcohol and gambling there is great benefit, but the wrong outweighs the benefit" or another verse in chapter 4 saying if you are drunk wait until you are sober to pray, which mirrors what you said about Jews not being allowed to pray drunk. this being said I believe alcohol is forbidden for Muslims and for Jews as well, for all intents and purposes. you see this in verses of the Tanakh like Ephesians 5:18 "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit," or Proverbs 20:1 "Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise." etc, etc. there are actually quite a few examples from proverbs. but yeah as you can see alcohol is a complex topic in Tanakh or Quran, but it is discouraged and has been since before the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him was born.

Intoxication is forbidden in islam for the same reason 😊 you told
@mohamedalshirawi86784 жыл бұрын
Just to add here, that the wine in the heaven is not the intoxicating type not like the worldly wine which causes intoxication.. this I refer from the Quran.. God dignified humans by giving them their brain, and that is what elevates them from level of animals as you mentioned .. and when people drink alcohol and get drunk , they lose their brain and lose their dignity and come down to the level of animals driven by their instinct only..also God will never allow anything which will lead to committing of sin.. Therefore Islam generally and shia Islam specifically believes that alcohol was forbidden from day one.. And that non of the prophets mentioning Moses , Haroon, Ibrahim, Lot.. etc peace be upon them never drunk or consumed any alcohol including wine.. Just wanted to explain how Islam sees alcohol as we Learned from our scholors.. Thank you for your interesting videos..
@johnirby88472 жыл бұрын
Christianity and Judaism do not prohibit alcohol but it is a sin to become drunk or go to religious services drunk. Islam outright bans alcohol. If someone is sick or dying..alcohol is used to relieve pain..so those people can be drunk. I don't know if Islam has the same exception for sick people.

The quran, in various verses, tells muslims to keep away from intoxicants as they mask the mind and affect the remembrance of God in addition to causing problems between people. As for the situation before islam, that would be christianity, and before that judaism - so the quran didnt mention the permissibility of alcohol before islam.

I agree with you, Jews were allowed to some point but Allah wants to see if a new law which wasn't mentioned in the Torah if Jews would accept it, this new law that was made clear drinking alcohol is forbidden. Secondly Jews who revert to Islam, are told to practice there own faith with Jewish family members. as long they don't deny prophet mohamed & the correct Islamic Jesus. & you could celebrate the Jewish religion with your Jewish family. Only christians & pagans are told to follow Islamic way 100%

Alsalam alikum wa rahmat allah wa barakatuh! I belong to the islamic school which we trust only the Quran as 100% . Since Hadeeth was written after about 200 years after profet Mohamad death, so I can not trust it 100%, as some other muslims do.That is why my expanation will come only from my understanding of Quran. Unlike Turah which came to Mussa in 40 days in Sinna, Quran came to Muhamad as many parts in 23 years. God told Mohamad where to put each part in orders. Quran tolked about wine in three different time periods, in orders as the following : يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثْمُهُمَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْ نَفْعِهِمَا وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ مَاذَا يُنْفِقُونَ قُلِ الْعَفْوَ كَذَلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَفَكَّرُونَ (219) (البقرة) (2:219) They ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: “In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit.” And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: “That which is beyond your needs.” Thus Allah makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought.” Approach not As-Salat (the prayer) when you are in a drunken state until you know (the meaning) of what you utter, nor when you are in a state of Janaba, (i.e. in a state of sexual impurity and have not yet taken a bath) except when travelling on the road (without enough water, or just passing through a mosque), till you wash your whole body. And if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you comes after answering the call of nature, or you have been in contact with women (by sexual relations) and you find no water, perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands (Tayammum). Truly, Allah is Ever Oft-Pardoning, Oft-Forgiving.(43) يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنْصَابُ وَالْأَزْلَامُ رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ (90) إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَنْ يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةَ وَالْبَغْضَاءَ فِي الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُنْتَهُونَ (91) وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَاحْذَرُوا فَإِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا عَلَى رَسُولِنَا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ (92) (المائدة) Believers, wine and gambling, idols and divining arrows are abominations from the work of satan. Avoid them, in order that you prosper. (90) satan seeks to stir up enmity and hatred among you by means of wine and gambling, and to bar you from the remembrance of Allah and from praying. Will you not abstain from them? (91) Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger. Beware; if you give no heed, know that Our Messenger's duty is only to give the clear delivery. (92) When you read the instrutions of Quran in order, you will understand that the wine was allowed in the beginning of Islam, both in (219) (البقرة) and in(43) (النساء). Later on in (90) (المائدة) was it totally banned. So I can guess that wine was allowed in both Judasim and Christianity which came before Islam. (فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ) This verb in arabic languge which have the meaning which goes behind just drinking of wine, we are not allowed to touch it, not to buy or sell it , not even to serv it others. I hope it was clear and good enough explanation. Thank you for your fantastic videos! Keep on doing it! שלום עליכם

No those verses were related to specific context. Leviticus is talking about before a meeting and entering a certain tent. Judges was talking about a pregnant lady. Numbers was talking about a Nazirite vow. So these are all special cases. But there is nothing to indicate that generally speaking it was forbidden.

In the beginning of revelation wine or alcohol was not forbidden, then after while, the first stage of forbidding alcohol was only before prayer, however prophet Muhammad (pbuh) don't drink it and it wasn't recommended, and then came the totally forbidding it even a little bit... And about Arab before prophet Muhammad specially in Macca, they supposidely have to follow the rules and commandments of prophets Ibrahim and Ismaeil [peace be upon them], but they after while they started to worship idols and changed so many rules and invent other rules, and you can see so many examples of that playing and changing those rules in Quran (could give you examples if you would), so the main streem fall on that sins and the followers to those rules of prophets became less and less by the time, even rare (so many example and peotry about that over time shows many examples and ppl), and that stayed like that untel God Almighty send prophet Muhammad [pbuh] with the revelation ... So the conclusion is that "probably" alcohol was not totally forbidden within those rules (i.e. Ibrahim and Ismaeil - pbut- rules)

So you mean, alcohol isn't forbidden in case it's under control and limited?
@blessedishashemtheg-dofisr73976 жыл бұрын
Yes. In Judaism it's not forbidden as long as it doesn't lead to violating a Torah law (like being aggressive or not being able to pray, etc.)
@mylestteague5 жыл бұрын
Wine is not haram, it's prohibited. In the same way that an observing jew is prohibited, unless one really knows ones limits(and Allah knows best:) ) it's pretty hard to make any justification for alcohol beyond it's medicinal and practical uses(even then). The only things that are haram are what goes against the 10 commandments, the flesh of swine, the blood, that which is gored by another animal, and that which is already dead. Allah prohibits wine but doesn't forbid because He knows that most observing Jews will not give up the Passover and observing Christians will not give up the Lord's Evening Meal. But Allah knows best in all matters and here is the verse of prohibition O you who have believed, surely wine and games of chance, and altars (for idols) and divining (i.e., divination by arrows or in any other way) are only an abomination of Ash-Shaytan’s (The all-vicious, the Devil) doing, so avoid it, that possibly you would prosper. Surely Ash- Shaytan’s (The all-vicious, the Devil) would only (like) to excite enmity and abhorrence among you by means of wine and games of chance, (Literally: in wine and games of chance) and to bar you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer. Will you then be refraining? (Dr. Ghali)

TRANSLATION OF SHLOKAS 5-8 At that time a spiritual teacher (Acharya) known as Mahamad (Muhammad) appeared amongst the Mlecchas (non Indians/non Aryans), along with his companions/disciples. The King after giving this Mahaa Deva (of angelic disposition) dweller of the desert (Marusthal Nivasi), a bath in the Panchgavya and the Ganges water (meaning honouring and praising him) offered him presents and showing him all reverence said: “I pay obeisance to you (Namaste) O Pride of Humanity (Girija Nath) dweller of the desert (Marusthal Nivaasi/Arabian dweller). You are the destroyer of the Devil (Tripurasur Naashaaya) who propagates deceit. You have been protected from fellow Mlecchas, and you are the embodiment of Divine Qualities (Sacchidanand Roopine). I am a your servant, and have come seeking your refuge. Few points come out of these verses. Mahamad (Muhammad) has been called an Acharya (a spiritual teacher) of Mlecchas (the illiterate people). The King Bhoj (innocent Indian people) will yearn to follow Prophet Muhammad with all humility and accept him as their teacher. Muhammad is the destroyer of the Devil. Tripurasur in Puranic mythology stands for the Devil. Muhammad is a dweller of the desert. It cannot refer to Lord Shiva of the Puranas because his abode is said to be the Mount Kailash in the Himlayas and not the desert. The Prophet will be given protection against his enemies, the fellow Mlecchas. Raja Bhoj washed the Prophet with Ganges water and Panchgavya. Since this is a vision, it cannot be taken literally but must be taken as symbolic for honour. He is called as the embodiment of divine qualities.

The prophet peace be upon him delivered a plethora of sermons banning alcohol here's one hadith from a hadith Narrated Aisha: The Prophet said, "All drinks that produce intoxication are Haram (forbidden to drink). Frisnel Leger I believe the verse states that there is great sin in it. Not that it is explicitly haram, whereas for example the consumption of pork is explicitly made haram. This is not in anyway encouraging drinking. If there is any contradiction, it would be on the side of the Ahadith, which are strictly sanctioned against in the Quran.
