Cycling the world - Europe: 151 episode
Embark on the first episode of my bike tour in Algeria, the 59th country on my global journey. Starting from Spain, I took a ferry to Mostaganem and immediately dove into the local scene. After sorting out accommodation to satisfy police requirements, I ventured into the city center, where I managed to exchange euros for dinars at an excellent rate on the parallel market. Equipped with a new SIM card loaded with 80GB, I was ready to explore. Unsure of my route, I aimed for a city south of Mostaganem but found navigating dirt roads challenging. This episode captures the warmth of local hospitality outside a bakery and my wild camping adventure outside Relizane. With plans uncertain, I decide to reroute towards Algiers to better plan my pursuit of Algeria's elusive dirt roads. Join me as I navigate the complexities and unexpected delights of bike touring in a country seldom traversed by independent travellers.

For the black market exchange rate, they will all be honest since you are a winner anyway. It's still better than the Bank. Sometimes it's 210. Sometimes 220. Sometimes 230. It depends on the current rate of the dinar, the Algerian currency, but in short it doesn't matter you will still have an advantage compared to the official exchange rates.. There is one thing to know about money in Algeria. Some businesses speak in old dinars for example they say 40,000 but that means 400. It's like in France at the time of the Franc currency, they spoke in old Franc and new Franc. This is a typical feature of Algeria. But anyway the Algerians are very honest, you will see they are incredibly honest and are very generous. Take the time to talk to the locals, they love meeting tourists, they love asking you to take photos of them. And when you take the time to sympathize with the Algerians, they are very generous. they will offer you tea or coffee, sometimes they pay for your meal. I have seen taxi drivers refuse to be paid. It's incredible, it's a mentality that you only find in Algeria. They are not at all like neighboring countries or elsewhere in the world, they are not interested in money, they are first interested in the human side of people. You will always find someone to help you in case of difficulties, for example you break down, or you are lost, or you are hungry, they have a big heart full of generosity.

It's long story but they thought I was Algerian and treat me very badly, as they usually treat Algerians. Also it's idiotic that bicycles have to go through the pedestrian crossing and they expected the bike to fit in the scanner. One of the officers told me that I had to remove all the bags, which is impossible, he also told me that perhaps I had hidden thing inside the frame of the bike. Then when I took out a bag of baking soda he told me I was not gonna leave the border before 5am (It was 5pm and the ferry was going to leave at 6pm). Even an idiot can tell the difference between bicarbonato and cocaine, anyway all the colleagues agreed that I was not going to leave. They called a superior, when he finally arrived he saw the baking soda and looked at them like they are bunch of idiots, which they are and he told them to let me go.

Bro, lol it's normal for you to get lost. You forgot that Algeria is a huge country. Algeria is 4 or 5 times the size of France. And 9 or 10 times the size of Morocco. So if you go deeper into remote lands and regions using isolated paths, it's normal to get lost. You need to identify the main roads and based on that you trace your route by taking the trails. Otherwise use a satellite GPS. Be careful not to get lost and if you go to the south, the desert avoids being alone because if you break your leg, in the desert it can be fatal.

But I was making this video and thought it was a silly enough title that it might even work. Also very few people visit Algeria and hope my video will encourage others to visit. La France est un pays multiculturel avec une liberté de culte alors que l'Algérie est homogène avec une seule religion d'état. L' Algérie a fait une épuration éthnique des minorités, donc c'est factuel , l'Algérie est un pays raciste.

1. The only ethnic cleansing that occurred in Algeria was the torture and murder of Algerians by French colonists. 2. France bans the burkini, a literal piece of cloth. How is that freedom of religion? 3. Tibi Jones, Ben N'co, Claire, Artisans de Demain-some examples of French vloggers who were warmly welcomed in Algeria, both on and off camera. 4. You are one being racist for holding prejudice against an entire country, despite being presented with conflicting evidence (refer to pt 3 and Davide's video).
