I disagree about the part where you said that ding liren and alireza situation is simmilar because ding had an entire pandemic shutting down china and he couldn't have reasonably gained enough games with the heavy restrictions in his country while alireza didn't even want to compete big events like the world cup.

Ding Liren's case is one about lack of availability of chess matches, not a selfish scheme to twist the rules and get more points

it's still unfair, not like other candidates didn't have the same covid restrictions as him, plus he had to also maintain his rating at the end of the tournament, which mean he isn't allowed to lose either... it's not one to one but to say he is totally innoocent is also not honest
