Lots of Prime lovers in the comments. I'm apparently a rare bird though. I live in a gated community and ever since Amazon started their own delivery service, I have had nothing but problems. I don't watch Prime videos and I don't listen to or download music. The problems I have had to endure ever since they started their own delivery is the reason I am cancelling the service. I am not alone in my community either. Others of us who are/were Prime members have the same complaints so until Amazon better educates their drivers, I am moving on to a different service.

We've been a Prime member for years. I didn't know about Prime Reading! How cool! Thanks, Steve!

There is no free shipping - if a non prime member looks up the same item, it’s cheaper i.e they add shipping fee to prime

wow, the other day dotto's data cafe popped in my head and I had to look you up! I am glad to see you are still producing content. :)

The one thing that I don't like about Amazon shipping is you never know which company will be delivering your product: Purolator Courier, UPS, Amazon shipping or Canada Post. This makes a difference to me because Canada Post will knock my door and wait for a response before leaving whereas the other companies do not. (When you choose shipping speed on Amazon's website, you can choose how fast you want and how much you want to spend but there is no mention of the company doing the shipping.)

We do have full resolution photo saves in California, but it's not unlimited. One feature that I really like, that i haven't taken advantage of yet is, for an additional 16$ a month you can have groceries delivered in a 2 hour window!

Oh, wow, 2 hours for groceries, that is fantastic for cooks!

Dead right, Steve! I use the music occasionally and I'll try the photos. But Amazon Video is the greatest. I was able to cancel my Netflix subscription and save over $100 annually. The movies on Amazon are a bit older but there are a lot of oldies-but-goodies there that I had never seen before. Love their 'Tin Star' series too. Way more top quality video content than I'll ever have the time to watch.

Thanks for this. I’ve been using Amazon Prime for some time, mostly because of the free and speedy delivery and the video. It’s good to learn about the other benefits,

It’s a fantastic service and great value with the music and movies, but I think some of these are a “loss leader” where the aim is to get you to buy more which is why you only get the first in a series of books or shows. One major problem is with Amazon Household and it’s a problem that Amazon choose to ignore. Household is a huge cost saving benefit you didn’t mention as you can split the cost with others. However, the problem with Amazon Household is that buying notifications and Alexa search history are all shared between all Household accounts. This means I can’t use Amazon to buy a gift for someone in this household because Amazon will tell them about it before it is shipped.

The amount I save on Gas and Time alone pays for amazon prime many times over! I save at least 5-10 hours a month not having to go out and purchase random products I may need.

I have lived very well without Prime and I expect I will continue to do so.
@Technocrat.4 жыл бұрын
Yes, in Canada it's cheaper than USA and now Movies are combined. If you buy a lot, the savings on shipping alone make up for cost of membership. You can share prime with a family member but it's complicated. Perhaps great tutorial opportunity. Amazon is starting to make their own tv shows and movies, like The Boyz, Parental discretion advised, lol.
@Burps___5 жыл бұрын
Steve, I respectfully disagree on the value of Amazon Prime. Why? The shipping is now atrocious, many delays. Its not simply geographical bc although im in Chicagoland, I have family in New England, NJ, etc, all with delayed packages under Prime about 1/4 of the time. Unreliable. The Amazon Prime Music with is 2 millions songs; only with Amazon Subscription Music subscription (starting at $7.99/month) does one get access to 40 million songs...I found Amazon Prime Music extremely limiting. Movies? Limited selection compared to other offerings (unless one likes Amazon original content specifically). Free full-rez photo storage? ONLY as long as you continue Amazon Prime membership; quit Prime, now pay monthly for your storage (Google not full rez, but lifetime free). Despite being an Amazon Prime subscriber for a decade, I’m honestly considering stopping the now $10/month Prime subscription. :-( Just another way of looking at Amazon Prime. Thanks for your videos. Wayne from Chicago.

I am an outlier I guess. I do not order much from Amazon and so do not use Prime which is $79 a year here in Canada. I watch a very little TV and have Netflix. I asked 12 of my friends one day at lunch and none of them use Amazon Prime. I only use Amazon.ca here occasionally and when I do carefully check pricing including shipping and compare it to other sources. I ordered several thousand of $ of computer parts and I used a Canadian retailer who has excellent support and a local store where if I want to return anything its easy, It takes 2 days when they ship parts before I get them and the shipping is free for large orders. I also check whom I buying it from on Amazon especially if its a reseller. Returns to resellers can incur shipping and restocking fees. Resellers by the way account for 50% of Amazon.com revenue. Some of them here in Canada simply is gouging us here and you have to be aware of the prices for an item. Just because Amazon is selling it does not mean its a deal. I have seen $15 swings in a single product in a 2 day period. Buyer beware.

Canada too, to me prices are cheaper on Ebay and using Prime just tempts you to buy using the free shipping which actually you are paying-for...

All is all right except the Amazon photo, I haven't touch that part for couple of years now but when I was playing with it I noticed that they charge for video, not the photos, it is absolutely fine but its backup software could not recognize photos from videos when it uploads the files, photos would go to free prime photo and videos to free 5gig storage, when that 5gig filled up it would stop the process and asked for money to allocate more gigs, a big pain in my neck, to put it politely!
@Technocrat.4 жыл бұрын
Amazon will love you, just started 20 gigs of backup from Amazon desktop backup and backup drive of photos and videos, mostly photos, lol. I figured, hey, why not, secure them in 2 locations, backup drive and Amazon, backup drive getting old. Hmm should backup rest of files somewhere else safe.

Last I knew, you can log into the Washington Post with your Amazon Prime and get a 6-months subscription. Not sure if that's global or not. Check it out. Editor of the Washington Post is the same guy who was the editor of the Boston Globe and was profiled in the movie, Spotlight. Amazing person.

When you are talking about Amazon full resolution photo is the purpose so that you can download the file of the photo and be able to still have print quality resolution? As I’m certain you are aware the resolution to display an image on the web ain’t the best.

Not a fan of Amazon, Amazon Prime, or living in a world of rampant weekly consumption. I do not see this service or those seeking to fill their lives weekly with more products as being a benefit to our lives. The paradox of having things in your life is the less you have the more you enjoy. You think you own the things that come in your Amazon box however the reality is those things own you ...you just paid for them.
