I have a ‘99 LC100. Prior owner swapped the OEM airbox for a K&N cold air intake. Would love to switch it back to the original system. Fairly expensive to buy the parts new. Hard to find used. Is it worth the expense or trouble?

K&N is a good brand so it might not be worth it to swap back to OEM. Especially since the whole air intake is K&N now the fitment will be good.

Same exact situation as you and opted to do the reversion to OEM this past weekend. The more I read online the more concerned I was about the open K&N filter vs the enclosed OEM. If mostly using for off-road where mud/fine dust is a concern, I'd strongly consider going OEM. Other option would be to buy a filter sleeve, though K&N stopped making them themselves.

For almost 20 years I use MANN or Mahle filters and I had 0 issues. Stop praising overpriced OEMs that are nothing but OEM with an expensive stamp lol.

Thanks for the advice!

I mean, the OEM filter is $20 at Ourisman - if you're concerned about saving $10 every 5 years then you probably have the wrong vehicle 😂. I run OEM filters all but one of our toyota cruisers. The one that doesnt has a thinner high quality, washable K&N which seems to work great.
