I have the Renegade in mine, it's one of the best mods i have done to my car. I have not experienced any buzzing at all. I love the shorter throws and stiffer feel, i always know where i am in the shift pattern. Combine that with a ap1 shift knob and you have a really nice set up. As far as the buzzing problem you need a lot of grease, what comes with kit is not nearly enough. I got a tube of lithium high temp grease and lathered it up good..... no buzzing.

This review was solid! I have the Renegade's brass shifting bushing and I think it's just the right amount of improvement over the OEM. I think folks needs to clean up and re-grease up the OEM shifter (which helps a ton on shifter action) before jumping into a short shifter. Like you said, these short shifter kits totally change how your shifter feels... not just improving upon the OEM. I think it makes sense for like BMW shifters (since they're so spongy and suck overall) but S2K shifter is already pretty great.

Thanks for bring that up. I was thinking someone could add a brass bushing to their oem shifter and pair it with a counter sunk knob - creating an oem-ish short shifter lol

@@zaahidrahman no major additional vibration or buzzing from my experience... I have driven my friend's Renegade's short shifter S2K so I'm using that as reference. Because the OEM shifter is not a solid piece of metal like the short shifter kits are, I think it absorbs some of the NVH. However, it is more notchy and def not as slick/effortless like the OEM.

@@zaahidrahmanthat’s the route I went. Back then you could only buy the brass bushing from a JDM tuner. I have that, and a CTR OEM knob. I’d like to top it off with a shift boot from GTGoods one day.

I've had the Renegade for like 5 years now and it does buzz but my car is stiff over all. One of the best mods I've done to the car for sure.

I’ve purchase from renegade I’m planning on making a full renegade s2k. They are great with customer service and so far all of the things I got from them last and feels high premium and everyone that gets inside my s2000 loves my interior because of my renegade interior pieces. Definitely adding this to the mix

Personally I took people’s advice on keeping the stock shifter. To improve feel and experience, I swapped out the detent springs with hybrid racing springs and rebuilt the shifter with brass bushings.

@@E30Benny I think so. Imagine the same gate and throw distance, just with more resistance and a more tactical feel. Best way I can put it to words rn is it almost feels like pulling a bolt action rifle when putting it into gear lol

I have an AP1 and AP2. I have heard a lot of people come to the same conclusion you have. Just to stay with what Honda did from the factory. Great video!

@@shenray337if I was looking to drive it every single day it would be the ap2. Simply because the clutch is more forgiving and it has traction control. If I were looking for a toy I would want the ap1.

the beard is cleannnn ,, oh and i was planning on rebuilding my shifter with just the brass bushing so excited to see how it might improve the shift feel . not sure if it’s my shifter itself or something with the transmission but sometimes the shifter feels like it’s catching onto the gear when shifting

Hahaha right on. I cant tell if it looks good or if i look like im about to be “randomly” searched by TSA 😂😂😂 Just regreasing might help if youve never done that. you also might want to take a look at the clutch master cylinder to see if its leaking

From my personal experience I’ve had that renegade brass bushing on my S2k n that thing failed on me after a year, to me it’s simple just stick to OEM quality parts , that brass bushing was chewed up when I took it out

I really consider the renegade short shifter more of an ergonomic mod. Let me explain… It is true the stock s2000 shifter is wonderful with the regular height shift knob and weight in mind. Performs brilliantly. However ergonomically I prefer a taller knob. Tall knob on stock shifter and based on my ergonomics it ruins the drive. The resultant throw is super long and sometimes I punch my modifry phone mount, and shifting becomes really vague. Keeping the knob height I like but introducing a short throw merely brings me back to what the oem feel is supposed to be with a more direct actuation. So if you’re one to prefer a stock or short counter sunk knob I think a short shifter for some would feel terrible. As a tall knob person I feel a short shifter is almost a requirement.

The s2k oem shifter is already short and nice, i will keep that stock and also the steering wheel the oem wheel is already small and nice.

Have you tried an extended shift knob with the Renegade unit? I'm also a novice driver and I had the exact same feelings when I first put on the Renegade unit but when I paired it with their extended shift knob it made the experience MUCH better. It kept the tight, solid feeling from the unit and the extended knob gave me more leverage and extended the throw slightly. The combo feels amazing. Thank you for reviewing the Hybrid shifter! I was wondering how that would compare to Renegade's.

Np! I never tried it with an extended shift knob. A few other people have told me that the shifter works best with renegade knobs and i think it has to do with the weight. My best guess is the heavier the knob the less likely you’ll experience nvh coming from the shifter. Hybrid also recommended going with a knob over 170 grams to avoid cabin noise

If you drive enough manuals you'll know anything but a OEM shifter in a S2k is a downgrade. I know some newer people want to tinker with their ride, but short shifter in S2k = waste of money/time. Put your money in insomething else.

Do you have to use the extension on the Hybrid shifter? Maybe just using it w/o it, so like you said, less components to make it feel better?

I was totally thinking they shouldve made that an option! Unfortunately that center portion is smooth and only used for the swivel of the shift lever.
