Is Andy Stanley Heretical?

Andy Stanley is a popular mega-church pastor within American Evangelicalism (as well as some Lutheran circles). What does Stanley think of the Bible, and should Christians (and non-Christians) listen to his preaching?

In one word....YES! I didn't truly understand "loving your neighbor" until I read the law. Paul himself said that he did not know sin until he knew the law.

You hit the nail on the head with this one. Stanley is basically a repackaged Higher Critic with a slick exterior that is deceptively careful with his words. I was disappointed to see that the former Nazarene church I attended (a fairly large one leaning into megachurch territory) was trying to promote an Andy Stanley study several years ago. I left a message with the church's office about what Stanley had done (this was when his LGBTQIAP leanings were becoming more public). I really hope they investigated him and changed their minds about promoting him.

Even though his father is Baptist, I enjoyed listening to the sermons of his father Charles Stanley. Andy seems to be way different than his father, which is unfortunate in my opinion.

It would depend on how one defines what is a heretic. But he's definitely a modern Marcionite and theological liberal (though it usually has overlap with political progressives/left).

Im listening hoping to find out Andy Stanley is a public person and this isn't the most oddly specific Ask the Pastor ever.

In a word, no he isn't. He just doesn't sing your tune.

Nor does he sing the same tune as Jesus, Paul. Moses. David and all the scriptures; so, in a word, Stanley is a complete heretic and I pray for his repentance and Conversion to the true Faith .
