Thanks for watching! If your brain feels broken, you're not alone, trust me. *IMPORTANT CORRECTION* We'll get to this in the next Footnotes, but you don't actually need to "go sub-atomic" to experience quantum effects, at least in theory, and Ant-Man wouldn't even be able to get that small, considering that no matter how close his atoms get together, he still has atoms. I apologize for furthering the common misconception that "going quantum" is simply a matter of how big you are. -- KH

What if the Pym particle changes what the particle experiences as space? i.e. If the particle is shrunk by a factor of 10^6, then the particle would experience 1 μm as 1 m. In this case, quarks could exist much closer together and the bosons (gluons) connecting them together, even though the distance is smaller, may take longer to travel that smaller distance because it still experiences the same distance as if it were normal size. In the same way, the electrons and the nucleus could come much closer but not make contact because they experience the distance as if they were at normal size. It could be like the opposite of the universal expansion. The Pym particle could cause spatial contraction in a localized area.

Antman also probably has a slightly less powerful, but more understandable ability. Based on the fictional explanation of how Pym particles work, that is, reducing the amount of space between atoms, we have to consider how that works. Nearly all of the volume of an atom is empty space, in which electrons can appear with various probabilities and discreet energy levels. The reason atoms can't get closer together is because of the electric repulsion of these electrons, so they don't ever overlap. The only feasible way that atoms can get closer together is if the electrons don't take up as much space, moving closer to the nucleus. However, smart boi Niels Bohr theorized that electrons can only have discreet amounts of energy, and when an electron moves from a higher energy state to a lower one (and incidentally getting closer to the nucleus), it releases a very specific amount of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation. So if we accept that the electrons are moving into lower orbits to reduce the amount of space between them, they must release a lot of EM energy. So every time Ant-Man or The Wasp or any other object shrunk down, around 7x10^27 atoms are all moving to a lower energy state, and would all release a certain amount of light at the same time. Ant-Man would briefly turn into the brightest neon sign in the universe, probably blinding or possibly frying everyone in the immediate vicinity with huge amounts of heat and light.

Xydez yeah but wouldn't not be able to go back to original size due to all the unrecoverable atoms he lost in the shrinking process? He'd have to lose/shrink his atoms in order to shrink himself. If he were to try and go back to original size, he'd barely make up his eye.....if he could go back. If this were the case, shrinking and going back would make him lesser and lesser in size. We're talking waaaaaaaayyyyy smaller than atoms and so much more......so on so on🤔how would he even be existing? He'd be too small for consciousness and etcetera, wouldn't he? It's basically like erasing yourself for eternity into an non-existent void of an abyss to never live again nor be remembered or even register to anything including your own self. Holy shit, that'd be extremely so very much worse than hell.......

Films make absolutely no sense, the ant man's suit and the pym particles are hella inconsistent, like how the heck is the old pym guy carrying a literal tank as a keychain if the pym particles keep the mass of an object same, and just lowers or increases the space between atoms, so as that one film character said, "I understand that the council has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid ass decision, I've elected to ignore it"

Ant man's logic makes no sense in our universe, even with the explination given in the movies. No matter how close atoms get they wouldn't be able to shrink smaller than other atoms -that would imply that they overlap. Not to mention the synapses in Scott's brain would cease to exist, which would kill him. My theory is that Pym particles basically move the object they touch into a different layer of reality, then shrink that layer like you would do in Photoshop. That way, the layer the object is moved into retains all the rules of our universe without killing anyone or creating singularities.

It makes no sense, but it only makes no sense if we try to understand it with what we know about the universe. I'm perfectly comfortable shrugging it off to the fact that the technology in these movies is many times more advanced than anything we can hope to have even in the next 100-500 years....or longer.

Smoothies. I've been blending up smoothies every morning before work, throwing in a variety of fruits, vegetables, kale leaf, a little honey. It gives you a huge boost of energy and it's a great way to start your day. The bad part comes from the fact that that blender is so damn loud, and whenever I use it it wakes up my dad, who usually goes straight to the garage and grabs that dirty old set of jumper cables which he uses to beat me like a rented mule until I'm halfway unconscious on the floor. It's a horrible drawback. But I've been so used to having that smoothie every morning that I can't seem to break the habit. It's a really great way to start your day.

You also forget that the explanation in the MCU is of Disney (my theory is in the eighties Dr. Wayne Szalinski worked for Pym industries) ..in the comics it was similar to that but also what was extra went into a pocket dimension (that might be a cop out to but somewhat explains it more). Also Scott's a thief to which Hank trusts but not with all his secrets I'm sure and only told him what would convince him to help

You might be onto something there. Taking the science behind Ant-Man's strength and applying it to the truck would mean that he wouldn't be able to lift it whether it was small or normal size. Only if he were larger and the truck was normal size. Or if the truck was as small as his ant-sized form. Although, I could imagine him driving a tiny truck that way.

Ant-Man would not be able to shrink to quantum level though. Because he is made of a lot of atoms, he cannot get smaller than an atom. If he even tried this, he would die before he got there because his atoms can at one point not move closer to each other due to the Pauli exclusion principle, so to shrink even further he would need to overcome the electron degeneracy pressure, merging his electrons and protons into neutrons, destroying all the systems in his body and turning into a tiny neutron star.

Hey Kyle. Knowing that the pym particle just adds, or takes away the space between time. I was wondering how it would be physically possible. For Scott Lang to go *sub-atomic* . You see. Because you cannot shrink the space smaller than the electrons, protons, and neutrons that make up the atom. And I dont just want "The movie doesn't follow it own rules." I was wondering if you could use your smart boy powers to see if this is actually possible. Anyways. If your actually seeing this, and answering my question. Then thanks! occam's razor. Pym explains that even he doesn't know everything about his own discovery - hence why he's so protective of the pym particle. In the comics the pym particles do more things than change the distance between atoms - for example, the pym particles allows Scott and Hank to access mass from a different quantum existence and add it to their own, hence why we never see GiAnt-Man floating away like a parade float as Kyle suggested.

I don't understand much from this video, but at 10:45 when he started describing Ant man gaining the ability to pick and choose within the randomness of quantum mechanics where he'd want to come in and out of reality from I took pride in my ability. Because I thought of a story concept for my character based on my very limited understanding of "Quantum Tunneling" and generating my own understanding of what "Quantum acceleration" would be and if it's even true. In this theory, the character would control absolute randomness of quantum mechanics, as in quantum tunneling and the evanescent Wave and so on, we cannot predict where the Electron is. So she'd basically spawn wherever the electron is, or any electron in random places anywhere through quantum acceleration or tunneling and be literally impossible to track or beat. The idea sounded just like this

Love the show, but I'll have to be that guy. The helix path of Earth is not different from the elliptic orbit of the earth shown in books because its tracked in time, but because of the frame of reference. In fact, the ellipse is also a temporal extrapolation, a prediction of how the Earth is going to move around the Sun in the following moments. However, because you stand on the Sun when you make this prediction, then you see it move around you. However, the Sun itself has a trajectory in space, and so if you stand in a fixed point in space, you will see the Earth chasing the Sun through space while also orbiting, this is when you see the Helix. Not time Kyle, frame of reference. Its elementary my dear solenopsis.
@tobyhardcastle6830
@tobyhardcastle6830 6 жыл бұрын
In the world line representation it is because of time, even if you were in a frame of reference moving perpendicular to Earth's orbital plane you wouldn't notice on the representation Kyle uses as that third dimension is not represented. Similarly as you can not be at a "fixed" reference frame in space, any graphs of Earth's orbit that did not have a time axis would be flat ellipses as it's meaningless to represent the solar systems own trajectory (unless it was relative to the galaxy)
@huggosilva8504
@huggosilva8504 6 жыл бұрын
You are not wrong by saying that, if we stand in a fixed point in space, we would see a helix. But this helix you pictured is the one made in * three spacial dimensions * . Kyle proposed a chart with *two spacial dimensions and time*. As he said, when you speed up, you move away from the time axis and, when you slow down, you move towards the time axis. In an elliptical movement, the Earth is moving in two spacial dimensions, accelarating towards the Sun and then slowing down going away from the Sun. So, sum to this movement the constant movement of going towards and away from the time axis and you also have an helix in Kyle's chart.
@gawayne1374
@gawayne1374 6 жыл бұрын
Huggo Silva I see what you are trying to say, but the elipse is naturally a two dimensional trajectory in a three dimensional universe. The two dimensional view can only be accepted because it is approximately already a two dimensional trajectory around the sun. At least that is what we learn in orbital mechanics :). So it still implies a frame of reference
@gawayne1374
@gawayne1374 6 жыл бұрын
Toby Hardcastle sorry but I don't agree. You can take any point in space to be a frame of reference. If you. Want that to be the center of the Galaxy, alpha centauri or intergalactic particle number 22494730, in any other frame of reference that does that have the same velocity vector as the solar system would be able to see the earth moving around the sun as an elipse through space. As I explained above, you can only assume an elyptical orbit if you imply the sun as a frame of reference (which you should never do, never imply a frame of reference, state it clearly before any math is done. Do it. Just do it)
@tobyhardcastle6830
@tobyhardcastle6830 6 жыл бұрын
Christopher Teale yep I agree, my main point was that while a helix could occur because of frame of reference, this particular helix occured because of the way he drew his graph. My second point was just saying that because you could pick ANY frame of reference (including one moving across the solar system so earth was moving in a sin curve) they are all trivial. You could argue it was a helix, a sine curve, a cycloid, etc. This adds ambiguity that isn't necessary. If Earth's motion around the sun is what you want to represent, it doesn't make sense to me to do so from a frame of reference moving relative to the earth sun system.

Hi Kyle, So if Antman shrunk to the size of an atom he would be wildly dense, I'm thinking neutron star dense. So the issue with that first and foremost would be that without pin particles I guess, he would be converted to a mass of neutrons and of course die horribly. If he DIDNT die horribly I would wonder if he would then be able to manipulate properties of atoms themselves. Finding heretofore undiscovered particles. He could literally see the higgs boson or gravatons. This would break Heisenberg's uncertainly principle I think. But at that size if you could perceive individual particles the principle may not apply. So possibly more interesting to MCU science rather than the storyline is how antman's ability of the quantum realm could advance science in untold and fantastic ways. Through antman we could learn to find and manipulate particles directly, making it theoretically possible to make items that change mass, or change gravity, much like Thor's hammer. Making something like Tony Starks Bleeding Edge armor more plausible due to changing weight at will. I think in this episode you JUST touched on the incredible power antman potentially holds. I would be VERY interested to see a follow up episode discussing more of the quantum powers in depth. Hopefully you can tell me all about it in the vlog! -Mike

Watchmiker I worked out his density at the Planck length. It’s about 5x10to the power of 80
@watchmiker
@watchmiker 6 жыл бұрын
Swimmy Boi so I think at the Planck length Antman would be a black hole. Blowing WAY past the swarthschild radius. Basically he becomes a singularity and then gets even smaller. What happens THEN!?
@oliverdunn2693
@oliverdunn2693 6 жыл бұрын
Watchmiker he becomes an almost infinite black hole that then presumably makes itself so dense and hot that it makes a new universe. But that’s just speculation. Long story short, antman makes a new universe

Just has to go inside his enemy, and expand back to normal. Like that dude did in the boys season 3. Would kill pretty much anything that way (assuming when he expands he is temporarily indestructible or he will just die as well)

You'd be able to tell because your voice would either get deeper or higher as you grow and shrink respectfully.
@paulcoy9060
@paulcoy9060 6 жыл бұрын
But you would hear your own voice, with your ears, which would also be altered in size, so wouldn't that cancel each other out? Are you breathing air in a closed environment, or in a dynamic environment? The original post said, "featureless black void", so no help there. Would it change the way you perceived temperature? You might feel colder if you shrunk, because there would be less ambient energy hitting you to keep you warm (sunlight) ?

I thought heros and villains with density, size and shape powers... Such as black mass the Hulk, beast boy chameleon kid and the vision also controlled other aspects of thier power like weight and density. Being able to absorb and negate excess weight and such. Which would explain the building in antman and the wasp being manageable and the Hulk adding nearly 2000 pds of muscle mass from seamingly nowhere. And how beast boy can lose mass and weight to become a bird, then gain 100x the weight and mass to shift to a rhinoceros. Or on a smaller scale how mystique becomes a small thin woman one second then absorbers mass to become a large tall man in seconds. Perhaps they all draw and release mass and weight, size and stature from the same unknown dimension. Something like a size force... equivalent to the Flash's speed force. What do you think about that?
@wolfgangjr74
@wolfgangjr74 6 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't that require some kind of energy conversion to release or add that mass? Production of massive amounts of heat for the add or loss of mass. I am ignorant on the topic but think it makes sense. If not then :P
@ThePopcornpassport
@ThePopcornpassport 6 жыл бұрын
if you turn your kitchen faucet on then the water will fill your sink. Unless you have another place to deposit the water. Say maybe a jug. Then you can simply fill the jug. In this case a "pocket dimension" would act as the jug. holding the excess water/mass until later called upon. So, take the Hulk. When Banner Hulks out that "pocket dimension" would fill his sink/body with nearly 2000pds of muscle mass. Or beast boy could add or drop mass there as needed to transform from animal to animal. And, things like the building shrunk by Pym would have its weight dropped into said location at his discretion. Someone like Black Mass or the Vision can pull from this place and add or subtract their weight and mass without a real change in size.
@wolfgangjr74
@wolfgangjr74 6 жыл бұрын
The Popcornpassport wouldn’t that still require an energy release to happen in either direction?
@ThePopcornpassport
@ThePopcornpassport 6 жыл бұрын
and as far as the energy created to achieve this. Much like momentum or inertia it would be absorbed into the "size force"

9:26 Always wondered how he would lose his mass when he shrinks, but I think I can answer that finally. If shrinking like that was a thing, that is. According to a recent Anton Petrov video I watched, mass is generated by gluons as they hold atoms together. Since the distance the gluon travels is proportional to distance traveled. He may very well be actually shrinking, and not just compressing.

Spaceman Spiff I know if you're comparing Ant-Man versus Scarlet Witch in her comic book version Scarlet Witch is way stronger than Ant-Man do you realize that she has probability manipulation that is a high reality warping ability she has access she can literally take away ant Man's powers just because Ant-Man has the quantum force that doesn't mean anything to Scarlet witch she literally causes ripples in the Marvel Multiverse Ant-Man has never done any achievement like that and not to mention she clearly cause death or curse Ant-Man or she can choose path to Victory meaning that any outcome she sees it will automatically lead her to Victory you don't know what you're talking about she literally rewrote her own universe
