I love playing Apex, but I continue to hesitate giving the game any money. I want to support Respawn, but I don’t want to support EA. It’s a true moral dilemma

EA didn't have a hand in this game. They still will get the funds of course since they're the publisher though. But EA let Respawn design everything in the game including the microtransactions. If there's any games published by EA that we should give money to, it's Apex Legends and anything by Respawn.

The reason this didn't sucked like most EA titles of the last... er... 10 years? because EA had very little part and interference with it... which is funny because Respawn's dev mentioned that they KNEW what EA + free to play + lootbox will sound like to most ppl so they just don't bother with EA's (garbage) marketing and let the game speaks for itself... who would've thought that if you release your game (relatively) bug free and complete.... and actually good that it would do well...

I"ll say this. I hate BR games. It's 10 minutes of looking for stuff, 3 seconds of actions, and you're done. Imagine in 2007 playing Call of Duty 4, but you have to find all your guns, find all your ammo, and you get 1 life. That's not fun. I figured Apex would change my mind about BR-if anything, it cemented it. WITH THAT SAID, I decided to finally give Titanfall 2 a try because the mechanics were very similar. I loved the first one and never picked up the second. It was EXACTLY what I was hoping to get out of Apex and don't think I blinked for 30 minutes it was so fun. If you like BR, then this video points out everything it "fixed" about the genre. I still don't like Apex, but dammit I can respect it. If you tried it and didn't get the kick you were looking for, I definitely recommend picking up Titanfall 2.

I have tried most BR since the idea came out in Minecraft modded servers. Apex has been the first since Minecraft that has kept my focus and just having a really fun time. It also has me going back to Titanfall 2 to get some practice and glad to see the community also getting a second life because of Apex. As always great video man.

I still don't know why this is the case either. I could never get into pubg because it had shit movement and poor performance. I could never get into fortnite because I never liked building in a combat game as well as the cartoon graphics. When blackout came along, I thought that all the things that I previously hated from battle royales would be gone, and I would like the game. But I could never really get into blackout. I sorta forced myself to play it so I didn't feel guilty paying $60. But I never really liked it. But I can play this game, match after match, and enjoy it always. It's not like it's entirely different from blackout. They share a lot of similarities in the pacing, ttk, gun play, and movement. But something about this battle royale just works

Bullet sponges are antagonists that take a lot of damage without any tangible reaction to the damage they're taking. Unloading clip after clip into an enemy and somehow it doesn't interrupt them unloading a clip into you. Typically found in boss fights, which is why the majority of boss fights suck.

I also like that the game is squad based. A lot of these other games are more single player focused, and even if they do have squad modes, a ton of people take their single player mentality into those games. So making it always squad and giving different characters with some synergy and having pings so even people who don't talk, can communicate, makes it really feel different.

I've played a couple Battle Royales, mainly PUBG and dabbled in a bit of Fortnite. The former had its charm, but was buggy as Hell and the latter wasn't even worth the price of admission, i.e. FREE. That being said, I've not only enjoyed Apex, but have excelled at it, getting to a very modest level fifteen in the first week of it being released. I like the implementation of different characters and abilities and how - like in any game - you play to your teammates strengths and cover each other's weaknesses. For example, if someone's down and you don't have anyone playing Lifeline with her quick revive, but someone's maining Gibraltar, then pop that dome shield and get to reviving! Even better, throw down your artillery strike before hand to keep the bombshells out and the enemy away. Then if you got Caustic, drop a couple of gas pods and get out of dodge to heal! This game encourages teamwork and that's what I love about it!

I couldn't disagree more on the melee combat? Did you even know there is a kick and an Uppercut that you can execute have different properties? Kick comes faster and has a longer ranger than the basic punch. While the crouch uppercut has a smaller range but comes out faster than the regular punch. The regular punch has a small delay, all you have to do is compensate said delay and you are golden. Just recently I defeated 3 different people, all armed, using nothing but melee and he different approaches to speed in these attacks. Sure, the environment played big part here, it was one of the shanty houses. But still, my only complaint about the melee system is that it only really works on the early game when your foes have yet to get some decent armor, because you need to finish them quickly. Guns still are king. I wish they add a character that has a melee that ignores armor or something, would actually try that.

The fact that this game is doing so well added to the fact that they didn’t really advertise it seems huge to me. They had the stream to build hype and instead of letting the hype train fizzle out they released the game immediately. That’s why they have so many players. They announced and released it when it was ready not when some executive at the company said “I want money” if this starts happening more I will be very happy.

I'm one of those " I don't like BR, but..." people, but the thing with Apex is that it combines some of the best elements from various genres in a well balanced manner. I like first person shooters, this one is well designed, most guns are pretty good with the exception of Mosambique being so trash you're better off with the melee and the Peacekeeper being so good they should call it Warmonger. It got hero shooter elements via abilities, but instead of giving these characters abilities that help them kill things faster you have abilities based on utility. Yes there are some abilities that deal damage, but its fairly small damage and very predictable abilities. The Airstrike is less about dealing damage and more about forcing the enemy out from their position for example. We had abilities in TF2 that were all about utility with some slight window for killing potential. In my opinion the right thing to do. Make the guns be the killing tools, not cooldown based abilities. Speaking of guns. You don't have rarity tears similar to lets say Fortnite. You got one set of weapons, there's no Assault Rifle of the same name but somehow better. Instead you have attachments. I know other BR games have something similar, but I like how it works here. Find an attachment compatible with the gun, auto-equip the best version and boom you're done. All they do is make the gun easier to ue, not straight up improve it. Someone can use a gun full of attachments and lose against the guy with the exact same gun but with no attachments simply through sheer gunskill. I like that system. What else is there to say. The game feels very intuitive to play, the pinging system is I would say the biggest revolution this game has brought forward for all games, the squad based gameplay helps keeping the game focused but also allows new players to play with someone that has a better understanding of the game than they do. As a fanboy of Titanfall 2 and Respawn Entertainment I am glad that they get the recognition that they deserve and I am also glad to see that they are very, very capable of making different kind of games. If this game doesn't show that Respawn are some of the most talented people on the market, then I don't know what it takes to convince people. Seriously: Try out this game.
