While it's true that Dirty Bomb has a bit of a population problem, it has a steady playerbase of around 1k players which it is not going to be losing any time soon. Check the 'Has Players' option in the server broswer and you'll see the game is far from ded with 50 - 60 active servers at any given time. So, don't let the somewhat low player count dissuade you from trying out this amazing game!

Great review, but a few things errors Id like to correct. Aiming down sights does actually affect the spread, still not practical to rely on most times though. There were a few errors in the augments section. The first is that the augments are not random. Each of the 9 loadouts for a merc has set weps and augments. Meaning the B81 for Arty will always have BR-16, Selb, and beckhill with drilled, explodydendron, and chopper (Think its chopper). The second error was there is no armor piercing ability. Not an error but 1 thing I do want to mention. A lot of the default loadouts are really strong and in some cases the best loadout for a merc (like the M92 for Skyhammer or A31 for Fletcher.). Almost every loadout in 2nd gen is viable though.

If you have someone with 300h as any merc, good luck trying to balance around that, especially when someone backs him up. The amount of stats you'd have to track, comparing those to all other players while taking into account recent performance and predicting who picks which Merc etc. all while having a small playerbase. Not happening

I think that Dirty bomb review here is kinda fresh, for players like me who started playing it at 2016 or 2015, DB had a great community, with forums and not even that much of teams being formed, as the years passed by and even with the lack of content it had( the promise of turtle being released) people kept playing because of the game ranked matches system and because of the sort of tournaments being organized by the teams, live streams of the developers team and sort of competition to win skins and special edition stuff kept players around, lately DB is full of content with the old game modes being brought back again, but players are barely playing on normal servers, most of the teams in DB passed to something else and most of their servers are empty, no more events are organized and more or less, only 2 or 3 if you're lucky tournament and competition are organized in Faceit, I wrote so many times to DB asking them to bring back ranked matches and the casual match making where we were able to play with friends in the same lobby against other players, as those stuff were already in the game before but I guess that the developers of this game gave up and so is for the community, I will still play this game because I love the unique style of each Merc, but I'm quite sure i'm enjoying the last moment of it.

The augments, or perks, aren't random. Every character has 9 possible loadouts that repeat themselves in every rarity. an M92 skyhammer in cobalt will have exactly the same weapons and perks as an M92 skyhammer in bronze. They're even named with code that corresponds to what's on the card; using M92 as an example, the M corresponds to the primary weapon, an M4A1. The 9 is the secondary weapon, the smjuth and whetsman .40 revolver, and the 2 is the melee weapon, which in this case, is the stilnotto stiletto. as a long time player i really appreciate that system because i can hear the name of a card like that and know exactly what someone mentioning a card by name is talking about. anyway, tl;dr: they're not random, they're all pre-determined sets that go with predetermined combinations of primary/secondary/melee.

I really like Dirty Bomb. I've put hundreds of hours into it, but I just don't get the same fun from playing it anymore. Not because it's a bad game or has drastically changed, because I just get sad. I end up spending the first match 1v1ing someone for half the match just waiting for other people to join. They've had some bad updates too which broke some characters (phantom) and have added characters that just don't seem ready like Hunter. Splash Damage also hasn't done any kind of marketing push ever since they've taken full control over Dirty Bomb that I know about. For all the problems there were with Nexon owning Dirty Bomb, they at least marketed the game and had popular channels play the game. As you said in the video they hardly even mentioned that 1.0 launched. It hurts to say it but I really think Dirty Bomb is in it's dying times now. They're dropping under 1k average players for the first time ever and their peak player count is down too.

Seriously well done video for someone with such little exposure to the game. I love this game and have played it almost exclusively since it released in open beta in 2015... I simply cannot find another shooter that has the aim-based gunplay and fluid movement mechanics... or team/objective focus that really plays amazingly once you're in a decently balanced 5vs5 stopwatch ("how the game is meant to be played"). However, the lack of playerbase (although dedicated) and mix of veterans and brand new players has remained a huge problem for a very long time and as you say, it's really unclear whether they are going to try to address any of it since 1.0 release. New players need to sink a lot of time into the game simply to become somewhat competent, and they often can't aim at all due to not being used to the "high-time-to-kill" and being able to get along fine with rediculously bad (high) DPI/sensitivity settings in other games which are all low-time-to-kill. Hopefully marketing and development will be invested in since 1.0, but it's not looking good so far. Prove us all wrong Splash Damage :

I never really played Paladins much because I just enjoyed Overwatch more, but I have almost 2k hours in Smite, so I guess that I can say something about Hirez... They get quite greedy with some of their moves, instead of focusing on balancing and fixing their games, they quite oftenly put more efforts into selling skins, if you watch their patch showcases (at least for Smite), they spend like 10 minutes telling you about balance and fixes and then probably 4x that time to show you all the hottest new skins, also most of the skins they sell are either behind lootboxes or some limited time events, which makes people spend more money, although they've started releasing more direct purchase skins as of lately again... Sometimes they just pull off weird moves on the balancing side, making the game in a worse state than it used to be, this clearly showed with Realm royale, their BR game that had a lot of popularity thanks to big streamers, yet it's about as dead as Dirty bomb now only a few months after being released into beta... Also, they pulled a p2w update, known as OB64 in Paladins, which pissed a lot of people off and after some months they actually changed the main guy behind the game and reverted the patch, but that did a lot of damage to their reputation... Also, they've abandoned multiple games in the past, including Tribes ascend, which was just left behind after Smite became successful I guess... If you wanna know more about Paladins, I don't really know much other than it's probably one of the better f2p FPS games out there, you don't get the quality of something like Overwatch, but the difference is that it's free, so you can always try it...

The only problem with Dirtybomb is that players and community are begging for Party matchmaking for the game so that players can match in a game with his friends, rather than joining a server and then your friend have to manually join in the server that you had joined but then your friend had joined the enemy team. During beta the only way to play with your friends is to play ranked match because ranked match have party system. Right now Dirtybomb removed party system from Ranked match which made players stopped playing dirtybomb.

It’s worth playing. Too bad it’s cancelled. However, it will stay online at least. They did crap for marketing, and it took ages for them to make lore, I think that’s what killed it. I spent wayyy too much time and spent wayyyy too much money on this game but loved it so much. It wasn’t Pay to Win, I just opened tons of cases and trinkets. But just like how you mentioned money, it wasn’t pay to win so they didn’t make enough money. If you’re actually good Phoenix is just a massive, constant dopamine high, My favorite squad is Phoenix, Stoker, and Fletcher. But I’ll always have a soft spot for my first unlocked merc, Bushwhacker.

As a dirty bomb player, there's always enough dedicated players to get some games in. If you want to try it regaudless because it seems fun. Do it, it's core as Anthony said is sooooo good and there isn't anything that I feel is quite like it. Hopefully the slow development can speed up soon. It's dying for sure, but it's not dead yet and I'm sure it's not doing to go out without kicking and screaming.

a small experience from nobody who has over 700 hours in dirty bomb over 2 years on and off, the community was actually very good and very awesome at the mid time period, but then the sad wave came and i dont really remember why but there was huge lag that never existed, then the matchmaking got rubbish and many other issues and then it just went downhill and the worst part was that the devs for some reason started ignoring the community and that is when it became toxic as hell, many left and then almost everyone was waiting for some update and i remember it never came for almost 4 months, but by that time the community was in hell and toxicity was like flowing water, i also left after that with more than 200 other people that i knew,they left in like a few following weeks and then i also left with the last few people which i used to play with and we shifted to paladins. it is the only game in my life that i played over 2 years, others just come and go in weeks cause they have no staying power but man its just sad to see this game, its like a wounded soldier who got hit in the start of the battle because of its recklessness and then after it recovered and became a shiny gem its shine is just never gonna pass through the stain of disgrace caused by its own mistake and recklessness and the ignorant behavior that it showed to its loyal playerbase that stayed true to its almost last dying breath and some are till there but whats left is hope and the war just might be over. just forgot to add, THANK YOU so much for covering this game.

Its a great game but under pretty dumb devs/publishers. 1.0 launch was their major event and brought in upwards of 4k new players trying out the game, but the devs thought it was a good idea to release untested network changes with it, which made 3/4 of the servers unplayable. For weeks after the devs were silent about it, and playerbase dipped once more. DB has become a meme at this point

I quite enjoy Dirty Bomb, but sometimes it feels like I'm being robbed of a victory for no obvious reason. Could be skill, could be reflexes, but I am not convinced that their anti-cheat protection is working so well.
