Arik Air, the number one in Nigeria and West Africa at some point until things went south. From owning over 15 Boeing 737 NG series (all were basically brand new), 4 Bombardier CRJs, one being the -1000 and Arik Air being the launch customer in Africa, DHC 8 (all brand new as well), to what they are now is really appalling. Now, they only have two operational aircraft. Matter of fact, that aircraft you flew on (5N-MJF) was delivered brand new to them in 2007. They are operated 3 Airbus A330-200 and 2 A340-500, flying international to London, New York, Johannesburg, Dubai and they expansive West African networks. Air Peace CEO in an interview stated that when he went to buy the first set of Boeing 737 planes for Air Peace, he insisted on the ones with winglets because that was the type Arik Air had and word out there was that people wouldn’t want to fly an aircraft that doesn’t look like that of Arik (this is to tell you how big Arik Air was at the time). Arik Air’s down fall as I heard was due to gross mismanagement and greed on the owners part. The takeover by AMCON didn’t help, rather they worsened the situation of Arik Air by stripping it off its assets in a bid to create a new airline (NG Eagle) which up until now still have a lot of controversy surrounding it. Two of Arik’s B737-700 that were repainted to NG Eagles colours haven’t flown in over 5 years now yet Arik is battling fleet issues. So much for the TBTF guise they used in taking over the airline. Arik’s situation really make me sad whenever the discussion comes up because I just can’t wrap my head around such mismanagement. And yes, I’ve flown them. My first flight was with them back in February 2018. My love story for flying and aviation in general can’t be told without Arik Air. I really do hope that someday, they get out of this mess completely. Awesome video as always bro! 👏🏽
