Got an ASP880 over the holidays, can't wait to use it on my next drum session. Great piece of gear from what I've determined so far and that price/feature ratio is pretty great.

My setup for the past year or so has been the ID44 and ASP800. Having two light pipes on the ID44 allows 12 channels of 96k audio. That's something important that consumers should know and it isn't always real clear with a lot of these products that allow hi res recording.

Props to the drummer, that unfiltered to filtered example was seamless, and you know it had to be recorded twice

12 channels is the bare minimum for drums. It's only enough if you don't need to mic up the Ride and don't wanna do MS stereo, or having only 2 Toms. It'll leave you with compromises anyway. I'd strongly suggest getting 2 ASP880.

There is a channel here in youtube named Aiden Kenway, and he talks about how trap hit songs beats were made, and i think that this is f* awesome, i would really like to see some content like that at the rock/metal comunity, talking about how legendary tracks were made, or how get that iconic linkin park sound :) very nice video btw

Great content Miami, right now I'm finding this kind of subject to be a jungle of often conflicting information and opinions. Right now I'm recording using an Allen & Heath 16:4 mixmaster board into an older presonus interface that I figure needs an upgrade, but I'm getting mixed messages as to whether or not that is truly necessary. I'm curious about your opinion on A&H preamps and how much older A/D converters might be hurting the quality of my recordings.
@joeymusic3 жыл бұрын
Allen and Heath gets the job done for live gigs, but for in studio use I wouldn’t honestly be using those preamps. Converters age doesn’t matter. Lynx and apogee converters from 20 years ago still sound amazing!

Yup. Lowest you could get away with is 1500 bucks which is still a lot for a hobby. Audient falls right into the “not to expensive but can still use it with world class gear” category. For a hobby you can get by the focusrite entry line stuff -Miami

guys i got a random question, why are the audient interfaces so popular in metal/hardcore production? i see them here all the time but in any other genre its always either focusrite for budget or apollo for the uad plugins and dsp processors
@joeymusic3 жыл бұрын
I want to say it’s probably just their awareness, and if I had to guess their marketing person is prob a metal head or was at some point. This makes them reach out to metal people for reviews (I was not asked to do this) which is then showed to a metal audience -Miami

@claudemanning65783 жыл бұрын
The ASP 880 is fine but it has some issues with power that are questionable. Personally I would say go with the Behringer ADA8200 because they sound decent and they last very long.
@joeymusic3 жыл бұрын
No offense to behringer, but the preamps are not in the league of Audient! -Miami
@claudemanning65783 жыл бұрын
@@joeymusic That's true, I only prefer the Behringer because I've heard of the power issues with the 880 and I've never had that issue with the ADA8200.
@ryanshreevedrums3 жыл бұрын
I had the opposite experience. My behringer crapped out, I upgraded to the Audient and ill never go back. The Audient is simply next level. I had a chance to A/B them before i got rid of the behringer and the differences in clarity and noise floor were insanely noticeable

Do you have any quick thoughts on the XR18 for drum recording? Also, at first glance, i legit thought your hat was a fro hahaha.
@joeymusic3 жыл бұрын
Eh, it makes a ton of sense for the live scenario, but I wouldn’t use of these in the studio. I’d go focusrite at that point if i was tryna get he cheapest thing (not saying you’re trying to that) -Miami
@BeatsAndMeats2 жыл бұрын
If you need 16 inputs, the XR18 X Air is great! I had one for years and it was wonderful! The preamps are clean as long as you don't have to crank the gain past +40db. Which is only a problem if you're using a SM7B or very quiet ribbon mics for your rooms.
@tylercrews90252 жыл бұрын
There's no reason why you can't use that in the studio. However, if you're willing to spend an extra buck, definitely go for the MR18. The preamps are way better.
