I really like my 880. My setup is a Motu AVB interface so I only need the preamps not the A/D conversion, so I just go out the analog outputs to my interface. It's a great companion to my other preamps which are Neve and API inspired, and often use them on cymbal and drum overheads to get a good clear sound and the HPF is really handy.

This is very interesting indeed and comes exactly when I’m looking into some better preamps for tracking. Guess I’m going to message Audient to get some more info

We definitely want a MKII version . What do you think guys, are those one worth with the release of the evo sp8 ?
@monovladd43928 ай бұрын
I have been seriously thinking about buying this 8-channel audience preamp since last year. But this model has been available since 2014. I am somewhat afraid of buying it and the next month seeing a new updated rack. Or worse yet, have it discontinued. This 880 is a wonderful rack. It has everything I need. pre super clean and AD switchable. I would have liked the PAD -20db button on all channels and not just 1 and 2. With this it would have been really perfect.

What are the pros and cons of clocking via ADAT vs a dedicated BNC cable? I am currently running a Clarrett+ 8pre connected to my ASP800 via ADAT and clocking from the ASP. Would there be any benefit to connecting via the word clock out and clocking from the Clarett? Thanks
@Audientworld9 ай бұрын
The main benefit would be that if you change sample rates on the Clarett, then the ASP800 clocked over BNC would also change sample rates automatically. If using the ASP800 as the master clock then you would need to manually change sample rate.

Thanks@@Audientworld so no real improvement in sound quality, just convenience? Or would it depend which unit has the better clocking?
@Audientworld9 ай бұрын
Both devices will have high quality clocks so you're very unlikely to notice any audio improvement by changing the clocks source, even if the clock jitter values are slightly different

I am confused, can I not use this device to expand my existing set up using the ADAT in i/o and expand my rig 8in 8out analog, so I can connect all of my outboard gear?
@Audientworld6 ай бұрын
the ASP880 and ASP800 are input devices only so it will give you 8 extra inputs via ADAT but no additional outputs. If you do need to add 8 I/O via ADAT then the EVO SP8 would be the perfect choice instead!

Is this the same League like the SSL Puredrive Quad/Octo...?
@Audientworld8 ай бұрын
We've not tried the SSL Puredrive so cant comment on its performance but in terms of functionality the ASP880/ASP800 provide 8 channels of super clean mic pres with the ASP800 giving you saturation options and the ASP880 giving you useful input conditioning such as sweepable high pass filers, Pads and variable input impedance.

Im wondering something.. I do own a 800 & 880, mainly using the 880... I wanna use 2 or 4 inputs as an AD converter.. Tried simply connected from behind with a "line" cable and pressed the bottom in the front and I got no signal at all.. I am using the others channels with the preamps via adat.. But, wanted to use 2 or 4 to route easier thru my setup.. My question is, Do i need the 25 pin to 8 1/4 males to work with the AD converters? thanks
@Audientworld2 ай бұрын
When you press the AD button on the front panel, that channel will then take the signal from the AD DB25 input and bypass the pre-amps. If you wish to use this button, you would need to use a DB25 loom to connect your devices to the DA DB25 input
@JasonCastellanos2 ай бұрын
@@Audientworld Ohhhhhh many many thanks for the reply, also mean that.. I only can use the 8 channels as Existing preamps or 8 channels as inputs thru the AD DB25 ? Meaning one or the other ?? (not combine 4 preamps and 4 bypass) Many many thanks
@JasonCastellanos2 ай бұрын
@@Audientworld Can I use at the same time both types of preamp? lets say 1-4 preamps build in from the 880 and the 5-8 bypass with the DA DB25 input?? many many thanks
@Audientworld2 ай бұрын
You can choose per channel whether you are using the Mic input or the A-D input. In the example you give, you'd just need to press the A-D buttons on channels 5-8. You'd then be using the built in mic-pres for ch's 1-4 and the A-D input for 5-8.

@ hey guys.. about this subject… I tried and tried different preamps, different cables and didn’t work… channels 1&2 work as a D.I. Input (they are the only ones with that option) but the rest of the channels can’t make work the AD option.. should be a firmware or something? Remember I got this one in 2000 if I’m not wrong. Many many thanks

Can I use ASP 800 PREAMPLIFIER FOR MY HOME HIFI?
@AudientworldАй бұрын
It's not something we would recommend. The ASP800 is a microphone preamplifier, not a hi-fi preamp.

How i can use it wit twin x quad? Because there is no world clock aparat on twin x
@Audientworld8 ай бұрын
With the Twin, you would need to use the ASP880/ASP800 as the master clock and setup the Twin to sync to the ADAT connection.

Can I record vocals with this mic preamp ?
@Audientworld3 ай бұрын
Yes, the pre-amps on the ASP880 and ASP800 sound great for vocals!

Does it have inserts for speakers?
@Audientworld4 ай бұрын
No, we wouldn't recommend connecting speakers to the ASP880 or ASP800 as they are primarily pre-amp units.

Please change the color of the face plate. Been using silver AP880s for 10 years, and they are superb. Silver colored panels look cheap and dated. Modernize its look.
