Is Automated Asteroid & Ice Mining Worth It? | Reforged Eden 1.8 | Empyrion Galactic

Back with another episode on automated mining in Reforged Eden 1.8. In this video I demonstrate the speed differences between the Asteroid Turret & Excavator, explain where all of the resources can be found, show the differences in yield between each resource, and which bonus resources they all provide!
In this video I missed talking about the water that you get from the Ice Mining. They both provide a good amount of water containers, but the Rich Asteroids provide more per asteroid mined. They are a great way to supply water for your play through.
To answer the question, if you enjoy mining in space, then it is definitely worth it!

I have been working on rich asteroid miners and would like to explain more. It takes a little grinding, but you can make the reduced manual or auto rich asteroid miners--- same deal like the ice ones. The only difference is the non ice rich miners require fuel. Confusing but you put the durithioum fuel in the ammo box. Also yes you can buy this as ammo at a station that has station service. I'm on WAG multiplayer where the servers main hub WAG Mart has reduced costs and 1 unit cost $50k, about 50x more than any other ammo. It loads like laser cells --- I think 1 unit of the dur fuel = 2k of use. Also the manual lasers and auto lasers reload separate. So keep in mind you worked hard to get the miners and have to work harder to get fuel for them. When it comes to rich asteroid fields they appear brown and can be upto 3 separate ones at one star. Each zone area of the map has different fields, zirax is normally the rich promethium. You will get the point of almost discarding fuel pellets because you have so many, never thought I would say this. When you want to build the advanced excavator rich miner, it will take dust from multiple different types of rich asteroids per NPC faction zone area on the map. Be careful some of these fields are well guarded. Also I noticed in the zirax fields they have large autominer bases 1,2 or 3 of them. They are easy to take out and you can't core them on mp. I have been able 2 or 3 time to pickup one of there auto miners intact (each has 4). They work the same but are named inefficient auto miners. My big issue I'm having now is finding a source of coolant. You can make it, you have to deconstruct or buy it. I have paid to play MP tons of hours on USG and SBS, but have been on WAG for a while. WAG is a great server at $25 month VIP with awesome alien core CV and SV, with monthly and daily loot. Also for no cost they have a really nice nice size SV with alien core big shield and ton pex to warp anywhere and use no fuel. I used the free sv for a while and took out a bunch poi's. Then decided to move upto VIP. I will also say the owner and the admins are johnny on the spot and not crying about discord tickets like other servers, when you have issues.

Thanks for this video. I haven't done this type of mining yet. It seems odd to me that it takes a Deconstructor to process the ore rather than a furnace. Cool Video, nice work. Love the Plutus too!.

I went through the process of making both the automining and the autoexcevators for rich asteroids on the server I play on. My thoughts after making them and testing are that even though the excavators are more efficient on CPU and mine 6x faster, I don't think they are worth the grind to make. You can just build a CV specifically designed for rich asteroid mining, and stack 12+ of the automining rich asteroid turrets and do just fine and mine as fast as 2 excavators. The mats to make 1 excavator turret is just stupidly ridiculous and are just not worth your time when you can just stack more of the smaller automining turrets. MY CV for mining rich asteroids currently has 2 excavators and 3 of the smaller autominers.

DUDE THATS A HUGE POINT. Rich resorces are an EGS Catch22. You need rich ice to fuel the equipment for running their miners!?

Very nice. I wish there was more to do with the rich asteroids, they don't really seem necessary for anything except more ways to make money (and there are easier ways...) I'm guessing we'll see more of that in the future as you say.

I love mining and industry games, auto mining turrets is my jam, however I've been running into a situation where all teh rich fields have stupid levels of guards, like 1-3 CVs, Plutus is great but not good at handling enemy CVs. Also, the mining turrets for asteroids will mine Ice also. Not sure if you mentioned that somewhere, but I found it out by accident.

I haven't played much RE lately, is there now a way to gain rep with all those NPC factions so you can sell stuff at their distribution centers? I'd love to see a video to teach me how to earn rep with each of the factions if possible. :)

It's incredibly difficult to find any information on creating mods. From what I can tell, an automatic mining turret or laser should be created using the config files but haven't quite found the combination to achieve that.

Some questions will the manual/auto dense ice miner, also mine the other dense asteroids? I could only make the dense manual laser turrets, but I think when I tried to use them it was asking for fuel. It seems like you have to make the manual turrets and then get the powder to make the auto dense miners. The manual are still hard to make requiring silver powder, which I have never seen for sale.

do you have any plutus recommendation upgrade tips ? i love this miner but it doesn't seem efficient going through zirax space against the miners. do you upgrade the turrets already placed on there?

Plutus wasn’t intended to be a combat ship for hard CV’s. It can handle basic unshielded CV’s, or basic shielded bandits/raiders. What I’ve found is that the asteroid fields randomly generate hard enemies. If you find one with tough enemies, I’ve moved to another asteroid field. The other option is to clear the field with a combat ship first. However, there is a ton of flat space on the ship for turrets. I don’t have specifics on what turrets you should upgrade, but normal combat CV guidelines can be followed. Upgrading to tier 2 always helps. Adding more shield stripping weapons would also be a benefit.

@@mov4do that's a solid plan adding the additional 2 shield rechargers reduces shields to 15k well its a great miner with that said I'm going to go into creative and build something of my own to handle them dangerous areas drones just rape the shields and it scares me haha

I gave up on those automated turrets for rich asteroids. Those for ice work properly, but those for rich ore don't. I need to wiggle and strafe until i find the "sweet spot" where the turrets actually start to do their thing. Takes me 2-3 hours to clear out an asteroid field. Relogging and restarting the game does not help. Is that a server problem?

Fixed it, kinda. Server was running an older version of RE. Just works fine now with the newest build...
