95% of tourists, including Travel Vloggers, who go to Bali stay withing a few km's of the airport, maybe 5% of the island. Kuta, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Denpasar, Canggu. They maybe get "adventurous" and travel the 20kms to Ubud for a day or 2. They stay in a western hotel, eat in western restaurants, shop in western shops and malls, and get drunk every day in western bars behaving disgracefully and embarrassingly. Then go home and boast about their cultural experience in Bali. My advice is get off the plane in Denpassar and go anywhere else for real Bali culture and experience. North to the mountains, lakes, waterfalls, beaches around Lovina. Or go to the North East (take a boat to Lombok or the Gili islands), go to the West side of Bali. 90% of the island you will see very few tourists and it has the most beautiful untouched scenery and locals not jaded by drunk westerners trying to bargain 10 cents off a Bintang beer T shirt.

Phil unfortunately that is changing fast with KZbinrs vlogging the last secret place in Bali and GPS. In 2010 hardly anyone went to Nusa Penida but seems one day one of the many tourist at lembongan looked over their bintang at an island nearby and said I wonder what's over there. Next week it's flooded with Chinese tourist. I wish they would make a tourist zone in Badung and not allow anyone to go further out until have a cultural training class.... never gonna happen but to say that Bali has anything unspoiled that is open to tourists is a bit of a stretch. Love Bali and Bali people and NOT living in KUTA for 9 years.

Bali is worth the hype, it offers something for everyone. What is sad is the lack of respect shown by some tourists to the people and their culture. Western civilisation wanting newer bigger hotels is changing the landscape, more and more rice fields are disappearing for 5 star senile resorts. The appreciation of a homestay or older 3 star is the true bali.

Paul Eddy Totally Agree!
@pakde8002
@pakde8002 5 жыл бұрын
Paul Eddy the losers are the average Balinese people... tourists can always go somewhere else but when Bali is finished being ruined for the natives they don't have anywhere to go and their unique culture will never be seen again in this world. It's truly cultural genocide and the people for the most part just passively or even actively submit to their fate.

We were there from 10 to 19 December 2018. We stayed in Simenyak. It was worth the hype. Absolutely breathtaking, well worth it and the people are just stunning. The word servitude comes to mind. These people have so little and yet they come to work with a smile on their faces every single day. It's a must on a bucket list I will go back. Bali & the surrounding islands of Nusa Penida, Lembongan, Ceningan and Gilis for me is still one of the most interesting place to visit on earth. Gorgeous beaches, beautiful temples, traditional dance performances, fabulous rice fields, amazing selection of private villas with pools, outstanding resorts, wedding chapels, lakes, waterfalls, nice cafes, restaurants, white water rafting, beautiful mountains and of course wonderful and friendly Balinese people. This is one of the destination that I keep going back to. ( as a bonus : one of the few places on earth that you still can freely fly your drone ).

Thanks, Poppy! Having to follow various other arrogant, ignorant, and self-entititled Americans into foreign countries makes me appreciate those like you all the more! As far as overcrowding, that's a fear of mine in that area as well. At this juncture I'd be more curious about Lomboc, though I've no clue if its recovered from the 'quake as well as Bali. Other countries, though ... Between overtourism (the Chinese are all over the place these days!) and jerky expats, some former favorites like Thailand no longer appeal.

Thank you for this. I have been living here for 7 years and I have seen a lot of change. This luxury BS and towns that have become just tourist places are kind of nuts and give you little idea about this island and its culture. If you are looking for the beaches, rice fields and waterfalls you can find them all over Indonesia and southeast asia, but it is this culture and way of life that is so unique and different to anywhere in the world and really what makes this island so interesting. I wish more people would see this and understand that travel is more about people and culture than the places to take a nice picture. Please continue to share this message with more young travellers like yourself. Much Love

Bali was ruined 40 years ago, I was one of the first visitors to Bali back in 1971 when Kuta Beach was empty with one restaurant, a tin shack called Poppies who served up magic mushroom omelettes. There were only a couple of guest houses on the only dirt road to the beach and the beach was empty. Then all the rituals were real and completely free, now its all fake.

IT LOOKS LIKE A NICE PLACE TO GO TO. IT IS ON MY BUCKET LIST SO IF I LIVE LONG ENOUGH I WILL VISIT. NOW I AM DOING SOUTHEAST ASIA. I LIVE IN THAILAND BECAUSE IT'S THE CENTER OF THE AREA THAT I WANT TO SEE. I MAY JUST STAY HERE AND EXPAND MY TRAVEL AREA FROM HERE.

When I want to interact with locals (or them with me), I'm always afraid they are after my money. Do you give them money after spendig time with them? But Bali looks like a great island. Love the monky' s.
@WheresPoppy
@WheresPoppy 5 жыл бұрын
Marc van Turnhout No I don’t, they don’t ask you for money here to hangout with them. They would only ask if they are trying to sell you on a tour. I mean if I hangout with someone it’s because we genuinely connect or want to get to know each other
@ScottRoy1
@ScottRoy1 5 жыл бұрын
No. You give them money for them to feed you or house you. You don't pay them for saying hello to you. They aren't beggars.

I've been wanting to go to Bali for a while now, but the idea of all the tourists is holding me back... Just don't like places that are too touristy. If I go I would def do a homestay as well.

@@lolNEED55 Not sure what you're trying to ask. If you want to know if I want to hang with people who are from the same country as I am when I travel, my answer would be no.

The tourists are disgusting. Try some other part of the island, but don't expect to be surrounded by western options. The number of AirBnB reviews I saw of people complaining about gecko poop or ants... Seriously... Like... Do you know where you are? So. Yeah. You don't want tourists? Don't be a tourist.
@WheresPoppy

6:30 "It's like he's playing cans or something" lol you are so innocent... Not sure how she has figured it out but it looks like she has an aerosol addiction... hitting the container will help build pressure and you can clearly see her putting it up to her nose after... inhalant abuse is common with people but this is a first... Sad :(
