Do your homework is number one! It’s not if barber school is worth it, it’s whether or not the school is worth it! Know what the requirements are for being a barber in your state and whether or not you can be licensed due to any past legal issues! If a school is not accredited then don’t go there, if you contact the state about an accredited school NOT DOING WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO, YOU CAN SUE THE SCHOOL AND GET BACK ANY AND ALL MONIES YOU PAID AND GET THEM SHUT DOWN! Being accredited as a secondary learning facility allows them to get the state to get you financial aid but they still have to hold up their end as far as teaching you if not the lose accreditation and can’t charge a “real school price” at least that’s how it works in NY! When you toured the school and didn’t see any barber instructors that should tell you they not looking to teach you what you want to know!

Without wasting my time and money? I have no desire to work on or with other females doing women’s hair. I want to learn to do proper fades, beard shaping- the whole 9
@talentedmrcj4 жыл бұрын
Mandi Lovelady i would suggest that you get in touch with someone who is a Master barber and just shadow them for awhile. In the beginning youll need someone to walk you through everything and to watch over you as you practice and get familiar with what your tools do and dont do. But id also strongly suggest that you learn how to cut both mens and womens styles. Ive been a barber and cosmetologist for over 25 years and my clientele is nit only men, but almost 70 percent women because i cater to both short and long hair as well as color. You’ll need the school in order to get your license, but the amount of money they charge is just insNe compared to the quality of education they provide. But there are definitely resources you can find on KZbin too. But experience and failure are the best teachers. Find a master barber in your area who you can apprentice under. Good luck to you sis. And if you have any questions you can always reach out to me

@@bryanbautista8520 the point of this video isnt to discourage people from getting their license, ive had my license for over 20 years now and it is definitely necessary for all of the obvious reasons…. The objective of this video is to give new barber students a realistic perspective about what to expect when you enroll at one of these schools. Yes, there a good schools with great teachers that exist, but there are way too many horrible schools like the ones spoken of in this video and in the comments that are just interested in making money off the students and not actually educating them. These videos have been shared in various lawsuits against these crooked schools in hopes that the state boards start making necessary changes and giving the students the VALUE that they deserve for the money they pay.

School is actually great. You learn how to do more than barbering I'd you go to the right school. If you learn everything else and dedicate yourself to learning, at the end the most you'll have to learn yourself is how to master fading. But you'll know how to use shears, color and do other things to make you more money. It all depends how you looks at it. If your goal is to go to school to just learn how to fade, then you're doing it for all the wrong reasons.

Dam, my son is in 6th grade and I suggested barber 💈 school to him... not knowing this side of the game. I can’t believe this part of the game. Crazy. I believe the brothers in this video are genuine...
@talentedmrcj5 жыл бұрын
Peace bro Becoming a Barber is one of the best decisions I've ever made for my life and if you're 6th grader is interested I think you should definitely help him facilitate that now. This video isn't meant to discourage, but just to give a more realistic view of what to expect from the schools. Most of us started school expecting to be able to walk out and just go get a "job". And for some of there have been opportunities like that available, but for most of us, we had to learn how to be entrepreneurs. And that's one of the lessons you're just not going to learn in school. You definitely have to go to school to learn the fundamentals and to get licensed, but a lot of barbers think they're going to school and gonna come out knowing how to cut all the hottest styles but that's just not what the schools job is. The schools are in the student loan business. They have one goal and that's to get you to pass that test so they can continue to get their tuition. So I pray that your Lil Man gets there and becomes a way better barber than all of us. You just gotta steer him along the way and hopefully the information we pass on can help your family or someone else avoid some of the things we had to encounter. 💪🏾

@DLO 06 You dont have to have multiple locations of a business in order to be an entrepreneur. You actually dont have to have a location or employees. Both scenarios are examples of entrepreneurship
@talentedmrcj4 жыл бұрын
@DLO 06 yes i know what an entrepreneur is. I know how to google the definition just like you did lol And ive also been one for my entire life. Even before i owned a barbershop. Im not saying that ALL barbers are entrepreneurs, some are actual employees, but some of us have never been employees and have been independent contractors who “organized and managed” our own enterprises. Its no different than a person who owns a taxi and is his own driver or a personal fitness trainer who trains their clients in different gyms. The responsibility of promotion, supplies, taxes, and bookkeeping all falls on that independent contractor and the only thing the owner of the barbershop does is lease space. That makes you an entrepreneur and my business was very profitable in that space before i ever owned a barbershop just like many other barbers are and contractors in other fields.
@talentedmrcj4 жыл бұрын
@DLO 06 no, we actually dont have different views, we just dont agree on what the definition of an entrepreneur is lol. Im 100% for having passive income but thats not the definition of an entrepreneur. I know people who are employees who also have passive income. I also know entrepreneurs who are independent contractors too and have passively income. Passive income can come from other businesses that you create and/or from investments. But just having passive income doesn’t make a person an entrepreneur either. Anyway, we’re just debating definitions and that really doesn’t matter. Im just glad that you’re getting money and spreading the information. Thats all that’s important. Be great 💪🏽

The only guys I know eating good are the guys who run and manage their own shops. You'd have to have clients out the azz from the streets before even considering going legit. Because if you go in with no clientel then you still gonna need another job to pay the bills you have. It's about who knows you. And that will allow you to move up the ranks.

Peace God but I have to disagree, it's up to the individual, been in this game for 21yrs it pays for everything in my life, if you work hard at the craft It'll repay you, if you're lazy then get a 9 to 5 and punch a clock, I started in a new city 3yrs ago , I didn't kw anybody , no clientele at all, been making 6figures the past 2yrs and I'm the man out here, I went in early everyday & I was the last to leave most days even worked Sundays, now I got my own shop in the DMV area(Washington DC metropolitan)

@@iqceohumble5889 Aye fool, I'm from DC and live in PG county rn. I've never cut hair a day in my life, but I was looking into going to barbering school to learn and get my license. Ik when u get out it is a hard road, but if you push and present yourself right you can make it. I wanna be on my own time and schedule and not lifting heavy ass boxes for 12 hours just for $5-600 a fucking week. How did u start? What school did u go to? I already been thinking about moving, so if I have to move after school I will.

@@daquangrooms9103 lol, u won't be able to "make ur own schedule" unless you work by yourself. Shop owners don't care about the independent contractor status, they assume barbers are dumb and are gonna set up a schedule anyway, and potentially fine or fire you for lateness or not showing up at all, especially at commission shops. If you go booth rent it'll probably be high enough for you to be stuck at the shop anyway if you wanna see some money for yourself at the end of the week. So you can either cut out your house or get u one of them mini solo studios to cut out off, and the mall gonna want they money too. Good luck..

Wow. I didn't know you need a cosmetology license to open a barbershop
@talentedmrcj2 жыл бұрын
In Nj, you need a cosmetology license to manage a shop. You can own a shop without one but youd have to pay someone with a license to actively manage it. The problem was that they started giving out barber licenses but wouldn’t allow the barbers to actively manage shops without having the cosmetology license. I think they’ve changed that rule since this video was made. Finally…. The schools are still trash though 😂 new video on that coming soon

Woowww I am in barber school now and tbh I am learning more KZbin than in school. My teacher is a cosmetologist and there is probably one barber teacher but he is only for ''phase 2''. I am learning more cosmetology than barbering we are doing shear cuts and coloring and things like that. They told me that the only difference between the cosmetology and barber program except the straight razor and they have us mixed in classes. I wish I would have watched this before enrolling.
