It’s not rocket science really. Their popularity is not because of their music but because how well YG promoted them and attracted people towards them as individuals. Sadly you can’t become nearly as popular as blackpink just by making good music. YG’s marketing strategy for Blackpink worked super well for them. Now they are at a point where YG knows they don’t have to improve themselves so they don’t even try. They know fans will digest anything.

They got popular in the beginning because of the controversy from coming after their senior group (and more stuff concerning that), 2NE1. They also had some other controversies and scandals around debut (ex: Lisa being Thai, the music video & culture stuff, etc). In addition to that, they also have their major label backing them up with producers, songwriters (for catchy music, not so much meaningful music or intricate music .. but I digress, catchy music still has a huge place in music. After all, the main point of music is to enjoy it), stylists, music videos, training, etc. It was mainly their visuals (which is not a skill or talent of course, but is a very important thing in entertainment), charisma, presenting something that hadn't so much been seen before in kpop (although it was already in kpop.), easily digestible concept, somewhat "unauthentic"/curated personalities (I like to say that people have different faces, for and to: business, friends, family, themselves, strangers, and acquaintances.) and catchy music that carried them past their popularity boom from controversy and being from a big label that hadn't debuted another girl group in a very long time. Now it's mainly their discovery factor, being mainstream/popular (+international), and again, digestibility. Plus, they almost always play it safe with concepts and vocals (technically speaking). This isn't to say they aren't at least somewhat skilled. You can be at a French level of B2, yet take French 1 (low level class).

Because YG has marketed them to be self-inserts for people to vicariously live through. All the attention is focused on their endorsement deals, photo shoots, MVs, ambassadorships, etc.. Meanwhile even the most hardcore fans know very little about their backgrounds and everyday personal lives aside from what YG wants to divulge. I think it's how strong their branding is. Like just by merely hearing their music or seeing some photos or concept, it immediately clicks and reminds you of them. They have established their brand to the point that even if they have no group activity for a long time, a lot of fans still look forward to them and they stay relevant.

I think blackpink's success stems a lot from pretty privilege. There's no effort put into the group by anyone whether it's the company or blackpink themselves. Blackpink doesn't even do fan service of any kind. Are we really gonna say the company is not allowing them to speak to their fans. The only time they really engage with fans is when they're promoting something of their's. It's been two and a HALF years since their last comeback. Other than Lisa they're very average dancers and even Lisa doesn't do any dance promotions. She could be featured on a dance platform like Studio Choom. Their lack of songs is actually an insult to their fans. While other companies take pride in giving their idols' fans adequate comebacks, Yge thinks they don't have to because blackpink's fans will eat up whatever their given and y'all do eat it up. Vocal wise the group is average as well. Most of 4th gen is made up of minors. When you have teenagers outdoing veterans in vocal capability, you know something is wrong. Lastly, this is a personal gripe but their English in songs is so embarrassing. The actual English and the translations sound like a foreigner trying to sound American and it's just not it.

umm... Not true. Western acts are mainly focused on music... kpop on performance as a whole and visuals, glamour, and other pursuits such as modeling. Blackpink is literally the latter. Western acts write their own music and it is a requirement. Big focus is on vocals, they release full albums instead of singles and EPs like BP.... and not half as much focus is on visuals and MVs as opposed to music. BP, on the other hand, literally has music as their least priority. More focus is on fashion, brand deals, visuals and glamour. No real artistic integrity or even personality-driven fun music. Live singing is necessary without a super loud backtrack as in Bp's case. If they were a Western act they would've been extremely ridiculed and no one would spare another glance at them. These mediocre things driven by visuals only works in Kpop. However, I do agree that the focus is indeed on western success, therefore the very forced badass women/girl crush image. Their marketing is directed towards a Western audience, they want western validation/success and won't mind forgetting their roots to get that. They don't ever even mention any korean or Kpop artists they might like, not even their own seniors(BB)...it's always western artists and bands, and there are no Korean sentiments in their music either. Again, they're trying to separate themselves from the rest of Kpop by pushing the idea that they're above those other kpop acts( the "we're not like other girls" of K-pop) They constantly attend prestigious western events, fashion shows, parties etc and take pics with influencers, celebrities and other powerful and expensive people that feeds into their branding even more. Their brand is exclusivity and everything they do reflects that. They even stopped attending K-award shows for that reason. They don't have big awards to win, so might as well not go at all and make ourselves even more exclusive. Blackpink was designed to be a brand, an exclusive brand and that's what they are.... They were not supposed to be a music group, kpop or not. Just pretty women with attitude and swag.... to utilize that image to create a recognized brand. It's like the Kardashians... They followed the same method to popularity and it worked.

overhyped is the perfect word to use when describing blackpink and there’s many reasons to back it up too. for one, there’s really no reason or excuse as to why they’re the “biggest gg in the world” but yet only have 1 full album and about 30 something songs as a six year group. and i already know what blinks are going to say “ tHaT jUsT pRoVeS hOw SuCcEsSfUl ThEy ArE” no it doesn’t. the only thing it’s proving is that they’re heavily popular which we all already know. but it says nothing about their musical success which is what it should be focused on but it isn’t. another reason would be how the majority of their songs talk about being independent women who don’t need a man, but yet their whole career is literally controlled by a group of men. it really doesn’t sit right with me how you have lyrics that are meant to be inspiring for females, being produced, written, and looked over by males that don’t even respect women it the first place. it makes no sense to me.

The problem behind their popularity is that BP does not have a discography to justify how loved they are.. they seem to work mostly as Influencers and models and their agency does not allow them to be taken seriously as artists. Imagine if a group from a small company like mamamoo had barely 20 songs that sound mostly identical... they would not be popular as bp because being from yg gave them an incredible push to start their career. What attracts me to black pink is how they seamlessly merge English with the Korean language. By that I mean the pronunciation, the attitude, they express their music well overall, even a non Korean person like me finds it easy to follow. Edit: Guys calm down, I said HOW they do it works for me, I also love how Gidle does it even though they mostly sing in Korean, I like their flow. I think the main problem is the lack of music content and comeback that are years apart. Being called the best, and being the most popular with so little songs that are also very repetitive and similar are difficult to process. My gripes are with YG and YG only. Another thing to note is how how quickly the group blew up. When Blackpink debuted their popularity and critical acclaim was overwhelmingly high and they were incredibly well received. They were getting fan gifts and letters well before they even debuted. When their pre-debut promotional dance video for Bitch Better Have My Money released they were already too popular at that point for their own good. Which left little room for true growth. They talked about it in their documentary and the director of the documentary mentioned in several interviews how new and alien the fame is for them. Jennie even said in the movie “I wanted people to see the potential in us, didn’t necessarily have to be like “wow, this group came out and they’re so perfect in every way”. The girls seem to always be under the pressure to sell more, get more views and blow everyone out of the their way with w.e their next project is. I think this pressure comes not only from the fans but YG the label as well. They constantly promote these girls to be bigger, better, faster, stronger, than everything else in kpop only to give the girls material that will guarantee a return on the labels investment and not give the girls much to challenge them with. Truth be told most kpop groups and pop artist get very little creative control over their music and image in the very start of their career. Most labels are not going to let the girls just experiment and take chances until they’ve begun to not only break even financially but also not until they’ve establish a brand and a formula that’s certified to get the money they put into the girls back. That’s just how pop music operates no matter where it comes from. Unfortunately, the trial and error, growth, breakthroughs, and more are all happening in front and with the massive amount fans they have, who are expecting the same result every single comeback and then some. It also doesn’t help that because of the way they are promoted and the long hiatuses between comebacks (which personally doesn’t bother me much) fans will expect something revolutionary to have been made within their time away. What’s interesting is that if Blackpink had released all of their discography closer together then awkward mistakes, kinks; moments of unsureness and the overall the artist development and refinement, and grace period that’s suppose to be happening 3-5 years into any artist career would’ve happened naturally. It would’ve possibly not only humanized the girls but also wouldn’t have left fans and kpop consumers with an unfair negative perception of the girls and it wouldn’t leave the girls under pressure to live up to the last because of the big breaks that feel longer than they are. Essentially their reputation and early explosive popularity made it difficult for them to rise to the occasion, because the bar was set so high before they even began.

I think the girls are beginning to get more comfortable in their skin and were given more creative freedom in their last album. It feels like the girls are just starting to scratch the surface of their potential. We are only now beginning to see the girls truly spread their wings artistically, but because of the marketing tactics and fans and anti fans ridiculous online antics, their actual skills and solid work ethic easily gets overshadowed. Say what you want a about the blackpink’s music formula, but it seems to be doing something right, because year after year more fans cling on to the girls like crazy. The whole “starved fans” consuming anything yg throws their way doesn’t really explain massive influx of devoted fans almost yearly. I think the general public do appreciate their sound and formula. Of course the fact that they are so visible helps, but visibility can only go so far. Their live tour and stage moments are some of my favorite kpop performances. The girls just look like they’re having so much fun and are effortlessly performing while engaging and hyping up the crowd. Like you feel like you’re enjoying the moment with them, not watching a spectacle (no shade to spectacles, they are visually amazing). Don’t even get me started on when they perform with their live band also cleverly called in typical yg fashion "The Band”. Those guys elevate those songs to another level, and I personally enjoy listening to their live versions of the Blackpinks songs more than the studio one. The synergy they create with the girls on stage is just beautiful.

I think its mostly because so many fans constantly claim she has the best vocals in kpop... If delusional stans were less hyperbolic about her skills, I don't think people would be so critical of her, especially since we all know BP isn't a vocal-oriented group. It would also help if people used the correct language to express that her vocal color is their favorite, rather than imply that her vocal technique is the best in the bizz. I think a lot fans say she has the best vocals (implying objective technical proficiency) when they really mean to say she has their favorite voice (implying subjective preference). This isn't something unique to the blink fandom, but the consequences are amplified because BP has so many fans saying that. The same can be said for fans claiming that Jennie or Lisa are the best rappers in kpop like..... I'm a fan but it's just not even close to true in terms of technique. Note from me as a dancer: Rosé Jenne and Jisoo are GOOD dancer who defenetly can serve dancing, especially Rosé and Jennie. But when it comes to Lisa she's just a beast, not only from her group performances does she stand out, but her technicall dancing in hiphop, high heels, isolation/popping and street Jazz is just fantastic. I kind of disagree with your opinion on their stage presence. I see you've watched Everglow-up's video on that matter (with which I also kind of disagree with). Their debut stage, their debut stage in Japan, their Coachella performances, the iconic Iceland Whistle + Jungle Playing with Fire performance, the Kill This Love stage where they wore the red outfits from the mv, their Pretty Savage Performances (especially in the Show), their So Hot cover... like I'm sorry there are so many iconic Blackpink stages. You're right, blackpink does have some crazy performances and very good stage presence ! Although I would argue that their individual stage presence is muuuuuuch more efficient and strong than their stage presence as a group. They have chemistry outside the stage but it's less visible once they're on stage cause they just shine so much individually, imo. One of the only comebacks for which i think they did very well was the lovesick girls one, for some reason. But when compared to groups that have extreeeeme coordination and some kind of common energy if I may, BP's stage presence feels kinda off. the problem is it's not consistent and their performances in general have only grown messy. that's why people are so frustrated with bp, we know they can do so much but the company and girls themselves are holding them back, with their lack of training, practice and passion. of course in 6 years there's some good potential but even those better performances are still on the edge of really being something. they give off this young, exciting energy but they're not versatile and professional. if you compare their best to other groups, soloists or even western artists you can see they still lack and that used to be fine because they were rookies, but they have less and less excuses as they move through their careers. especially after we've all seen the explosion that's been the 4th gen. these brand new teenagers! shouldn't be better than a 6 year old group of grown adults. i only found jennie captivating out of the solo performances so far. and it was still just a bp jennie performance, she didn't give us anything new. at the end of the day you can like what you like, if bp entertain you then great but that doesn't remove the fact that they're overrated and problematic and have a long, interesting conversation behind them. i think it's a shame. but i hope their new comeback will be decent, fans deserve respect. yge would be nowhere without blinks.

In BP each member has a role and image that connects with the public, each one is recognizable and the four complement each other, their music is mainly intended for the international market and is consistent in its style (which you may or may not like, that is subjective ), the company has developed the image of each one in such a way that at the time when BP dissolves it will have 4 artists already positioned. I feel like you could have dived a whole lot deeper into why and how Blackpink achieved their mega-popularity and how detrimental it is to how kpop stans view them. Whenever any artist gets to mega popularity status they will always be scrutinized way more than underdog artists, that's how it is for everyone. I feel like your video focused more on how their skills/talents compare to other less popular groups, but c'mon that's so tired, we knooooow that BP isn't as talented as other groups. But I feel like Blackpink is very deserving of their popularity status for several reasons. 1) They have a majority of western/foreign members, giving them more of an international appeal. It is very rare for 75% of a group to be English speakers. 2) The genre of music they make and their concept give them the flexibility to make any type of music and have it match the concept and gives their music a chance to appeal to a variety of listeners. Even though they are not the most technically skilled in any category, that honestly does not matter when it comes to consumption and popularity. (Justin Bieber as a western example, mediocre singing, dancing, ect skills, but still one of the top musicians in the world). Wendy is (imo) the most talented kpop singer but she is one of the least popular members in Red Velvet. 3) Like you said, their dynamic with each other feels and looks authentic, it's enjoyable to watch them interact with each other, and each member is entirely unique, boosting their indivudual popularity as well. 4) Speaking of unique, the Pinks are just that! Extremely unique. From their visuals, to personalities, to singing tones, everything about them makes them stand out from other k-pop groups where the members tend to just blend together. I still have a hard time distinguishing the voices of Twice and Red Velvet etc. 5) Lastly, they were anticipated as 2NE1's sister group, so kinda like nepotism babies, they have a bigger start than other groups to begin with. But their popularity from that point on was entirely due to Blackpink, as each member is extremely likeable and they each have their own star power. tldr; Blackpink is mega popular because of their unique members, and their popularity is rightly deserved. FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT. Blackpink is literally the only group who has a perfect balance of talent, skills, and unique attraction of different elements. They are not the best vocally, but their individual vocal techniques are easily different from each other which makes their song enjoyable to hear on repeat. Their visuals are also very different, even if you are not a kpop fan or do not know blackpink you can easily distinguish their faces. Their unique individuality is a big reason for the division in the fandom. Each members have their own transparent personality. I myself connect with Lisa more than the other members because i personally love her positive and carefree radiance and my style is the same with Lisa. My aesthetic is not soft like Rose, or trendy like Jennie, or classy lady like Jisoo. Most of my wardrobe has always been consisted of vintage and thrifted clothes and I have been unconsciously dressing like a tomboy since I was 10 and even the way Lisa casually moves like tomboy i also relate to her on that. But even if the members style, aesthetic, vibe, and personality and very different from each other, their chesmistry is the strongest and the realest i have seen so far in Kpop. Like Lisa would kiss her members a lot even though female idols are generally expected to be conservative. Lisa and Rose argue even when there is a camera around. Jisoo scolds Lisa like a mother even if there is a camera. Jennie tends to be transparent whenever she is annoyed with her members' unnecessary childishness. The members said it themselves that they feel like they are closer than their actual families and have known each other better than their families know them. There is REAL AUTHENTICITY with the group. People admire realness and this authenticity allows the blackpink members to present themselves genuinely and because of that authenticity their own personalities shine. Which is also another reason why they are entertaining and interesting. Their individual background and history adds more flavour to the group.

I believe they became famous mostly because of their company. Let's face it, YG has some of the most successful and famous kpop groups and artists out there. Personally, I think their strengths are stage presence (individually), rap (if yg allowed them to showcase better rap and write their verses it'll be more prominent), and visuals. Starting off with dance since I'm a dancer myself, I personally think they do pale in comparison to other groups. Even the choreography given to them are mediocre and sometimes repetitive. Blinks also say Lisa is the best dancer in kpop or one of the best but I personally disagree. She isn't bad per se (she's good!), but in terms of technicality, technique and versatility, there are plenty of better dancers. Take for example: Hyoyeon, Momo, Seungyeon, Chungha. Vocals, I think they're individually all decent even good, it's just that their vocals don't particularly fit the concept of their group like Rose for example. Her voice seems to fit slower songs and her voice really shines with those. Music isn't really the members' fault either, mostly because their company doesn't give them enough comebacks and sticks to one genre.

There were actually zero attempts at logical reasoning in that segment and no references to specific examples or principles of stage presence. why i think blackpink is this successful and sometimes people call them overrated 1) obviously yg’s influence as a big 3 company: if we were serious, the girls wouldn’t be so popular after all those hiatuses if they came from a small company. it gave them the push they needed but personally boombayah was everyone’s cup of tea because of how charismatic the girls were in their debut era: whistle and boombayah are still iconic songs in kpop. 2) the members: easy names, easily recognizable faces and positions, with distinctive personalities and voices. we have lisa, cool and tomboyish, jennie who’s more badass and savage, rosie who’s sweet and sings about heartbreaks and jisoo with a more husky voice and girl-next-door aura. I think that since they are pretty different from one another people can identify themselves better, which is why there are sooo many solo stans 3) THE MVS: so expensive lookin and bomb af lmao most non kpop fans are super attracted to them + the songs are yes repetitive but flowy and with a catchy beat and the rap adds to the overall good songs. I think that the fact that they use so much english helps a lot, especially with a whole english speaking line.

Tbh I feel like bp just had the luck that they debuted when BTS made steps into the west, because whenever there is a popular Boygroup, there needs to be a somewhat popular "counter"-girlgroup. The (beautiful) bad-girl image was kinda new at that time and I think more easy to see for the west than typical kpop girlgroups. So they were just lucky to be at the right place the right time

Also the western industry tried so hard to find a second "One Direction" and a counter-gg, so it was pretty much a "in-your-face" move from fans, kinda like, we don’t want you to dictate what music we like 🤷🏼‍♀️ stage presence-wise bp are still better than what the average western gg could offer so far, the dancing was something the west hadn’t seen yet. I think this video missed extremelly important strong points of Blackpink. Lisa might not be the best vocalist in Kpop but there are many videos that prove she can sing well, Jisoo's voice has a unique personality. Jennie's rap is worth mentioning and among korean females one of the bests and Lisa's rap is the most impressive part in every blackpink song is a climax everytime,and her style can be even fit in western productions, not the typical Kpop rap of girls talking fast,making mad face thinking that is rap but no flow. Stage prescence, Twice has more? as a group maybe because they lack individual personality, in this case I think is Blackpink's strongest point, each member has it's own style and different personalities, Lisa's stage prescence is insane, luxury brands don' t choose them just for their beautiful faces only but because they can portray an image,sell it to you! And they have Lisa,the best dancer in Kpop. I'm not a Kpop fan because everything seems kids music, many members you can't tell who is who, many groups than you don't realise you are looking at a different one, they all can be confused. Blackpink, has personality, I don't need the best vocals, I rather go to Adele for that, I want to vibe and sing along and be surprised everytime and be able to tell who is who not a group of clones.

Same with Jennie she has a cold aura with those fierce cat eyes which also suits the concept + she is savage. Rosé fits the concept too she has this mixture of both cute and fierce + personality wise she is quite extroverted and many people might say that she seems cute but imo she seems like a person who knows what she wants and is also serious about it and last but not the least Jisoo..she is the most loved member imo cuz many people outside of fandom like her too..her and Lisa's personality balances the group in all together. Jisoo has this childish+ mature at times personality she isn't afraid of calling out people (which I totally like) so yeah. They all have unique personality and imo they have unique voices too specially Jisoo and Rosé. And Also Jisoo's feminity balances the other dominant personality of the three. I think their too popular for what they have. They're more models that occasionally sing lazy produced songs rather than idols that spent years undergoing intense training. Most idols have continued training after they debut to further develop skills. Based on the growth, it seems like that probably stopped after the first 2 years. BP is a group that had SO much potential as idols. They fit well together, they have good chemistry, they have a natural stage presence, their voices have great colors. Imagine if they had continued to be promoted as idols and artists, image where they would be if they had the freedom to make their own music. They'd have more than 1 world tour in 7 years. They'd have a full length album by now. They'd have one comeback a year. They'd have more songs than a rookie group. They'd have the tools available to improve where they do lack. Their management is the same that has caused groups to fail in the past, it's amazing that they haven't. The "quality over quantity" bullshit saved it.

Well I'm a blink and I never love them bcs of their skills anyway, skills are like the bottom rock reason why I love them. If I could rank them, it would be: 1. Their vocal colours (not skill). Each member has a unique vocal both inside and outside the group. They all sound so different yet beautiful and completing each other. 2. Their songs. People might say that their song is repetitive, but for me it's okay bcs I like that girl crush genre and they always come with a totally different instrumentals. Their b sides are also diverse. 3. Their relations to each other. They're literally a family, really close and genuine to each other. 4. Skills. Their rap, singing, and stage presence can be REALLY good on some occasions 5. Visuals. They're so pretty and charismatic without a visual hole. (I know this might be a wrong reason to stan someone but I'm just being honest 🙏) So I think skills are not the main reason of why some artists are so popular. What will attract people the most are the songs and the artists personality

I think they will probably re-sign. The rumors about them leaving don't really make sense. They mostly come from fans who think the girls are "mistreated". They may be in some sense. But looking around at Kpop girl groups in general, it's hard to find many who are treated better by their companies than BP. BP has become so big at YG that they are basically in a status situation in the company similar to what Big Bang had when they were at their peak. (Actually, bigger if you go by global popularity metrics.) The BP members are mainly performance artists. They seem to get quite a few opportunities to contribute creatively to the process, both in terms of actual performance crafting as well as some musical and lyrical content. YG has always been much less generous in giving music/lyrics credits to female artists. At YG, a female artist has to really do quite a bit to get formal credits. At some companies, I think they inflate the credits to a ridiculous degree. So much that an "artist" only has to sit in on a planning meeting and they will be included in the songwriting credits, even if they hardly contributed anything creatively in reality. Despite what the critics say, BP is at the top of the game in an industry that ultimately is about popularity and fans. If they want to explore different approaches to music and performance independently and pursue solo careers, they may some day choose to do so. But I haven't seen any real-world indications that any of the BP members are unhappy about being at YG in any serious way. And if they do break up, all or most of them will probably not be as successful. YG isn't just song production. It's an entire complex support platform that covers everything from concert tour infrastructure, contracting, choreo support, music videos, brand endorsement marketing, fashion. Very few companies could reproduce anything like that for BP or individual members if they went off on their own. (But I would like for Lisa's hair to get a healthy break to recover. She looks beautiful. But the stylists seem to love playing around with her hair the most. lol)

YG is a shitty company when it comes to girl groups. I mean, we can't say they "committed" to 2NE1 regarding anything at all lmao. They used 2NE1 as they saw fit, and discarded them when they weren't "useful" anymore. CL had to FIGHT for I Am The Best to be released, cause YG didn't want her to be a songwriter, they just wanted her to be a puppet. Now they're doing the same to Blackpink, but instead of "performing puppets", YG wanted "model puppets" this time. He said it himself, he wanted to make a new 2NE1, but with "pretty girls" instead. As long as they stay in YG they'll have no creative freedom whatsoever. I really hope they leave cause they have too much potential to be treated as replaceable idol models.

Put simply, the more people know you, the more people have something to say about you. And I can understand why that bothers Blinks (no one likes their faves being talked about in the way people talk about Black Pink), but uh... That's the price of fame, dolls. Black Pink have an elevate profile, so people are going to expect more out of them. Black Pink are no worse than any of their contemporaries (as far as girl groups go, we can certainly do worse), but that's part of the problem; they're pretty damn average. With proper management and a team that actually gave a fuck (starting with a producer whose music doesn't sound like it belongs in 2015; whoever green lit Ready To Love to be released needs to be fired... from a canon), Black Pink could actually be the group that many of us want them to be. They have everything they need to prove that they deserve* their place in K-Pop. *I know someone is going to bristle at me using this word here, but if you were to strip Black Pink of their Big 3 status, they would not have the popularity that they do. I agree with everything but not completely. They're not far off from other groups in my opinion. Worst in some categories than others and better in some categories than others. I think BP has some of the best stage presence in kpop/in (young/new) artists overall. Individually and together. They know their music, feel their music, and deliver it exactly how it's meant to be delivered. When Jennie says she's a boss bitch, I believe her. When Jisoo says they roll the carpet out for her, I believe her. When Lisa says she runs the game in high heels, I believe her. And Rose can say anything with that voice and I'd believe her. Some of the best group chemistry in the music industry period (imo). Rose isn't the best vocalist, but I think she is a good one who has steadily been getting better. I would hope that she (and the others) have been taking their long time off the better their skills even more. She does their songs justice and I haven't really seen her slip yet. She consistent and has even shown a little versatility (imo). She's also a great dancer with an infectious personality. Very talented even if she still has room for improvement. Lisa is a very good dancer (imo). I feel like she can hold her own next to Momo, Seulgi, and Chungha (this doesn't mean I think she's better than them). She has shown some versatility. She clearly knows her body well and is captivating on stage. To say she's a sub vocalist, she can surely hold a tune. She's a great rapper as well (consistent delivery, great story telling, energy on 100, etc). Some of the strongest stage presence in kpop overall (but not the best). Jennie is a great lead vocalist. I like what she does with her voice (especially in songs like love to hate me and you never know). I think she should work with a vocal coach to get to know her voice more, though. She has potential to be even better. Her rapping is amazing (one of the best live rappers in kpop imo). I wish for her to write her own in the future (I feel like she has a lot to say). I like her dancing, but it can be inconsistent sometimes (never jarring tho). I give her a pass because she's so good at everything else and she's mentioned having a weak body, ankle injuries and stuff (but she can still improve). Jisoo is a decent lead vocalist, a great one within her group. She has also yet to slip up. Consistent live and reliable. She has a great tone that is so beautiful when it contrasts the other members' voices (like Minnie from Gidle). Her voice is always pleasant to listen to and she sings well (but, like Jennie, I hope she finds a good vocal coach to work with individually to better understand and improve her voice). Still a mediocre dancer, but she has gotten so good over the years (I can tell she's been putting in the work to get better) that I don't even care. When on stage, her dancing rarely sticks out badly. She keeps up. Her stage presence is great and versatile.

I don't know how YG or Teddy is doing it but I think Teddy kept the best of the best of his bangers for BP. The girls are releasing the same formulaic bangers all these 6 years but it doesn't get old for the majority of the audience. There are few complaints from fans here and there but overall, fans/people still listen to it no matter how hateful they can be lol Looking at the teasers and how it's titled as "Born Pink", I'm 90% sure that the sound is like their past EP's and The Album, the title track will have this big and huge beat drop again, no actual concept/storyline, the girls being fierce/edgy and it's a wrap lol But fans will still eat it up. Undeniably, the girls are extremely charming and also talented but in the 6 years that they have, there were no room for the growth when it comes to musicality. What they were able to built is this signature of a distinct, massive sound that even if they keep on doing the same formula and sound, people still like it and it never gets old lmao And to be honest, this feels like their last release as a group. Next year is their 7th year, time for the "7th year itch" as well as the expiration of their contracts. I'm not too hopeful that they will continue as a group.

I disagree with a lot of points in this video. Idk what is collective stage presence. If you mean group dancing, then that's just performing not stage presence. Groups like Itzy, twice depend on their performance skills. But i promise you they do not have stage presence. Imo they have one of the best stage presence of 3rd gen and for me they are the best. very few kpop groups can hold the attention of a crowd outside Korea or in a place where ppl dont know their songs. Their songs are very intelligently produced idk how ppl hate their songs but go and like some of the most generic typical kpop songs with bland productions. That formula has long been forgotten since the album imo. And I love Rosie's voice so there's that. Dancing is okay but their choreos are eye catching and perfect for live performances. Simple enough for others to follow. Blackpink gets too much criticism and hate and is held to standards I don't see anyone holding other groups to. It's literally music. It seems to me that one can't say Blackpink don't deserve their success, after all the market decides such things. I will say their success is not proportional to the quality of their music. I don't blame the members for this, I blame the producers. The instrumentals are uninspired, simplistic, and repetitive, even between songs. The vocals, especially lately, focus too heavily on Jennie/Lisa. They have relegated the talent that is Rose, and the awesome/ unique tone of Jisoo's voice, to the prechorus/sections of the bridge. Where rap sections in much of kpop serve as a nice counter/change up to the rest of the song, in BP songs these days, they are dominant, and are far less impactful as a result. To put this in perspective, Blackpink was the first kpop group I listened to, they launched me down the rabbit hole, but none of their music has grabbed me since "Forever Young." Add to this the fact they don't produce much music, and I lost interest. Groups like Dreamcatcher, Pixy, and Twice(my three personal favorites) have been working their butts off recording and promoting album after album, while Blackpink takes 2 year breaks to make mediocre music. In that regard, Blackpinks fame and fortune seems remarkably unjust. Anyway, just my two cents.

That's just flat out deranged hater labeling there. I mean people can argue about whether they're at the very top among girl groups with regard to skills in various aspects or whether they're closer to average for some aspects. But talking about them being the "rock bottom" is just unhinged hyperbole that has lost all connection to any recognizable reality. There is a lot of competition down near the bottom...and Blackpink is not in that area.

At a couple of points he mentions that he's looking at things from the viewpoint of non-fans. But that's a whole mess in and of itself. He's not really looking at it from the viewpoint of non-fans. He's repeating the viewpoints of the fans of rival groups who literally hate Blackpink and will use every excuse to drag Blackpink. That's just a small subsection of "non-fans". I'm a non-fan of 99% of all Kpop groups. Like most "non-fans" that just means that I'm not interested. I don't hate them. I don't look for excuses to drag them. I just don't pay any attention to them. Some of them I've tried to listen to and like, but couldn't get into them, so I moved on. If they have fans who love them, I just figure that's good for them. I don't need to pretend to find technical flaws in everything they do to justify my indifference.

For example, during section of Vocals he mentioned how Jennie and Jisoo have potential adding nice clips of them but he also mentioned on his channel how much unpolished vocalists they are. Whatever you look like from a fan or non fan view. Also, he's never mentioned how Blackpink are clumsy girls who can't preform. He said how they are indeed good preformers but that they do have flaws. I know that he didn't use the words "clumsy girls". I did to describe in summary what his message overall message seems to be. I don't think this video is objective at all. It gives far too much weight and credibility to the opinions of actual haters and antis. They are not mainstream views, but he talks about them as though they are the normal or typical opinion about Blackpink. Of course, every group has flaws. But Blackpink is way better than what is expressly and implicitly said in this video. The group compares very strongly with the best groups in Kpop, even if not in every single way. @@TEAM__POSEID0N To repeat myself, what he meant by Blackpink being seen "at the bottom" is that whenever he'd praise Blackpink vocals in his videos or tell they're overhated people would tell him that he's too biased and that they don't deserve such praise. If you watch more of his videos, you'd pass by those comments. Now back to Blackpink. I don't think anyone ever denied how many huge songs and stages Blackpink has done. And they're enjoyable. I personally love their voice colours, but in vocal pedagogy there's this thing of supporting notes. If a singer supports notes, that means that they have at least decent tehnique. In Blackpink, unfortunately Rosé is the only one who can support notes. And of course, there are groups that have more members who supports notes, hence that's why Blackpink is considered as bellow average based purely on tehnique. Now about their preformances- they have many great of them such as Coachella and Japanese debut. However we can't say they are always that consistent. Some members should improve more in some things, and that's normal since improvements are always possible. And frankly, there are groups who have more consistent energy on more stages. And there are groups who have less than Blackpink of course. But Blackpink is the most famous gg, so it's expected from them to step up the game more and more as years go by. Again, I'd recommend you that video about stage presence cause it's a bit more organized then my comment, while also giving a great point.

You know what the problem is? Lack of discography+lack of members' interest besides Rosé's. I'll use examples of groups I'm fairly familiar with. Twice- for example has 3mix (Jihyo, Jeongyeon and Nayeon) for vocals. The rest of the members improved or stayed the same but they're functional. Twice has really good dancers but I'd say only 4 members are actual consistent preformers however Twice as 9 work on stage. But it's important to notice that Twice also have 2-3 comebacks per year and that they also have over 40 songs that members written. Their music has involved over time, getting more personal as well. Red Velvet has Wendy and Seulgi as good vocalists, decent dancers and I know people question their stage presence a lot but still Red Velvet still has a lot diverse discography which keeps people interested in them. And they mostly have regular comebacks. Itzy has weak vocalists, but great dancers with good stage presence and complex choreography. Even if people aren't big fan of their songs, it's always good to see them preform. And they also similar to their seniors have multiple comebacks during year. Aespa has pretty balanced vocals, alright dance line and even if they get hate for stage presence which is subjective they're still showing some kind of uniqueness in Kpop with their SMU. Blackpink rarely comebacks, if they do they mostly relay on company's producers and songwriters, their choreographies aren't as complex and they don't seem to improve between comebacks. Yeah, Jisoo has shown improvements in dance so did Rosé in vocals but they still feel as rookies who haven't involved as an artists, preformers or singers even after 6 years. Even during long breaks, Rosé is the only one who releases covers with Lisa occasionally giving dance practices. It just seems like they aren't too passionate about their idol life and the audience can feel it. Especially because there are groups that are giving more content for free, improving more drastically or who brings more diversity.

BP, always get hate for the amount of their comeback which it doesn't make any sense. YGE is the one to be blame or hate. However, it surely part of their marketing and branding and BP. Okay, YGE is not giving them comebacks. Is that stoping members from releasing covers on their personal channels, Instagram, Vlive...? Absolutely not. And as I mentioned, during this long hiatuses only Rosé was the only posting covers and Lisa was occasionally posting dance practices. Is lack of comebacks stopping them from improving their skills? Lia from Itzy is improving her dancing a lot in even though Itzy's choreographies are demanding while her group has good amount of comebacks, Wendy improved her vocals even though she was good already and so on. Minzy from 2NE1 had vocal training outside of YGE and she became the best vocalist of her group, while some members of Blackpink faced vocal regression which means they rarely sing between comebacks. I don't hate girls, I like majority of their songs and they're sweet and I wish they'll be able to debunk every single thing I've said this comeback. But Blinks need to stop blaming everything on YGE as girls aren't adults that are in industry for years. And yes, Blinks need to stop taking everything as hate and not as discussion and criticism. Like telling people to "skip their music* will change anything.

Jennie releases vlogs. Same goes to Lisa. 3 of them has their own YT channel. There, they do fan service. Are you implying that BP members didn't improve through the years? And I'm not saying they aren't doing anything, I'm sure they give suggestions and help with Korean-English lyrics but still there's lack of them in their music. Hopefully this new album will show more of their artist side since Rosé and Jennie co-wrote one song. Being on Weverse or sharing vlogs once in while is bare minimum idols are doing. Take at look at how much covers and vlogs rookie groups give such as NMIXX or I'VE for free. There's objectively a lot to improve in vocal aspects considering Rosé is the only one who supports notes. Lisa could always sing like that, but it depends on songs whatever she has rap or vocal lines. Believe me, I know their whole discography. Jennie isn't a lazy dancer (and I've never called her one) but her dancing skills are the same as they used to be, not saying they were ever bad but there's simply no changes. Jisoo has shown improvements in dance but even she was going though vocal regression but hopefully she's improved this comeback. If you are asking me "what needs to be improved" then I guess you really don't know much about vocals specifically or you haven't seen how much other idols improved over time. Blackpink is 6 years old, not 2.

Honestly, I don’t really care. Kpop is not just about the music, it’s heavily about the visuals as well. I can even argue that the visuals play a greater role than the music. BLACKPINK’s popularity can be attributed to the fact that they’re arguably the best looking girl group in the industry. Each member is gorgeous and immediately visually distinct from one another, which is not the case for most girl groups. Not to mention each member’s charisma and individuality. Who cares if they’re not the best singers or dancers? They’re delightful to look at. (Lisa is definitely one of the best dancers in Kpop though) Probably why they model for luxury brands more than they make music. And I don’t mind! And being popular for visuals is not a bad thing either, Kpop would not be as big as it is if not for the visuals. That’s why all these fans are buying the physical albums, collecting photocards and posters… to SEE their faves, not just hear them. BLACKPINK simply does visuals the best, and I think they deserve the spot at the top for that.
