Our economic system, NHS, and physical infrastructure is falling apart and in a few years as more climate problems happen our infrastructure will be made for the wrong climate. Disease being pushed up from Africa, water rising, temperature changes and extreme weather are the obvious ones and they have the possibility to be almost comically bad. We have so many geographical benefits for clean electrical generation which can be sold, it's painful how many easy things are missed. Genuine question if anyone sees this, where are people needed? What can we do?

Best option: Emigrate the UK to Aus/NZ 2nd option: Devolve UK power further. Until Scotland and Wales devolved around 1997, the UK govt gutted all local infrastructure, and problems literally jumped from County/Borough level to Westminster. The government realised far too late that it's too hard to manage regions like they did in the 1850s, so devolving power might spread out some of the wealth from London to the regions and other cities. 3rd Option: No devolution, but divide administration like departments of France. Every little village gets its own mayor and state funding. All Department Headquarters are within an hour's drive or a day's horse ride (this is why France's Departments are roughly equal in size).

I think Great Britains wealth and economy (as well as a lot of other european countries) relied very much on colonialism. Without the possibility to soak up wealth from "dependant" countries (like the United States are doing now for example) it is much harder to compete worldwide.

Yes, it is doomed. I lived there from 1983 - 2003, the Thatcher / major years were a dreadful, noticeable decline, the first few years of new "Labour" (in reality Tory - lite) were ok, but the seams were starting to split again by the time I left. During two visits in 2016 and 2023, the most noticeable changes were the increase in visible homelessness, and the decrease in civic pride.

Ali is correct on the need for structural reforms in the UK. A lot stems from a lack of housing. Traps capital that should be going into tech startups into land. Forces people to move to London, increasing regional inequality. (Without London, the GDP of the UK is the same as Alabama). Political talent is needed, PR/Media folk and Lords run the country. Media folk only know how to write a good speech, not organisational skills. Lords stop any reforms that prevent their land from making money. (We still have elites from Normandy that still run this country.) Ali is correct about financial services, most talented grads go to McKinsey or banking. In the USA, there is a much bigger startup culture. The upcoming labour government will have to make hard decisions with the NHS, which will upset there public sector voters. So we will see.

Thanks for covering UK politics. Our economy has gone to shit the last 14 years under the toriez, we used to have a higher GDP per capita than the US. 43:00, I couldn't agree more.

I’d love to hear Jordan’s take on this but I think we need to ask our labor leaders and unions as to why they’re increasing migration coz it doesn’t really make sense for a party that protects workers to be bringing in cheap labour

Jordan telling workers to sacrifice... I don't think union workers would be likely to accept such dogma. Keep blaming and expecting workers to sacrifice while the million and billionaires are earning more than ever.

Yes it's common, I've dated lots of men, most of them Aussie and sorry fellas you do need to step it up compared to men from other nations. And yes hand washing is a problem too..
@andrewiwm99805 ай бұрын
It depends, most Aussie men are at construction sites not sat in a nice clean office environment like most non-Aussie men
@Kimsta5 ай бұрын
@@andrewiwm9980 nah it's not about manual work, it's more like us girls are picky and we don't like being touched without hands being washed, same for food handling etc. More of a general hygiene thing than a career specific thing. I do want to add there are also some great Aussie fellas out there! I definitely didn't mean 'all' in my original comment, just more a majority 🤘
@andrewiwm99805 ай бұрын
@@Kimsta I think it is not fair to expect a guy who works at a construction site to be clean like a nurse or a doctor or even a real estate agent so I think you guys just need to be a little more proud of Aussie men coz they’re not only quite handsome, non-Aussie men usually aren’t, but also do a lot of hard labour in both the cold winter and hot summer which most non-Aussie men don’t do and probably never will
@Kimsta5 ай бұрын
@@andrewiwm9980 I feel like you are mistaking what is meant by hand washing, it's not a comment on dirty hands from manual labour, it's a comment on hygiene. There is definitely no target on a man that works hard with his hands - we love that about Aussie blokes!
@andrewiwm99805 ай бұрын
@@Kimsta yeah, basic hygiene practices should be easy tbh… the expectation for proper hygiene practices is very valid too but work conditions play a role in a person’s perception of self which it shouldn’t so maybe resilience should be taught too and enforcing hygiene should be done a little forcefully in that case
