*What bare root trees have you planted? How are they doing?*

I planted a fugi apple tree about 5 years ago with no idea what I was doing. It seemed like the soil was just good enough to keep it alive but not to allow the tree to grow. Last year I watched a ton of your videos and tried to improve the soil and actually care for the tree and it started producing apples! I know 3-5 years is average for fruiting but it is looking healthier too.

Planted a Royal Crimson last year and it adapted well to my area (South OC), growing like 8 feet in a manner of months. So this year decided to buy it a sister plant, Minnie Royal. And thanks to your channel, bought a Spice Zee Nectaplum and jujube :-)

Strawberries. Made the mistake of buying them in early summer. They grew but didn’t last in our summer heat in zone 9.

I've grown apple trees on an espalier and planted traditionally in the ground, pruned to a central leader, and peach trees pruned with an open center. I've got a newer home where this year I planted 8 mini-dwarf apple trees, two peaches, and two pears, with a Spice Zee nectaplum on the way this winter. In the current situation (extremely limited space) I'm focusing on very compact forms and all will be pruned to an open center, and kept small. I can't wait for late winter pruning and seeing their form take shape!

Purchasing and planting bare root fruit trees is one of those things that just seems like it can't work! Fortunately, it almost always does. Most nurseries have some sort of guarantee. And if you do some research into proper handling and planting, you can do very well with bare-root! I love the wealth of variety that is available online, so many fruit varieties often available on a bunch of different root stocks. I generally prefer to support a local business whenever I can. But out of about 23 bare root trees that I've planted, the only ones I had trouble with were one or two little peaches from a local nursery. Winter at my lattitude is such a dull time for the gardener - it's fun to receive those late-winter tree shipments and get them tucked into the ground where hopefully they'll have a great life! I've got way too many (little mini-dwarf) trees on my tiny lot, I'm adding just one more this year. It's on your recommendation - I think you have a video about the Spice Z nectaplum? Pretty sure it was your content that pushed me to hit "buy now". One last tree!

Great info. I will be adding thornless blackberries to my collection this Spring. I've e already purchased a couple bareroot plants from Lowes so Im good to go. Im also adding to my small salad garden. I call it that because it contains salad ingredients only: cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and greens. The greens were problematic for aphids and other pests so Im scratching that. Instead I will be adding red onions, red potatoes, and rainbow carrots. Already purchased as well. I transplanted some azalea bushes to make room for food as I have limited space. Wish me luck as the gardening experiment continues! As always thanks for sharing all your valuable information! Love your channel.

Just purchased a Bruce and a Methley potted plum tree and a Blue Java Ice Cream banana plant. I also have a Ruby Red grapefruit, navel orange and Bonfire peach tree which are all dwarf varieties. All my plants last February died in the “Big Freeze” here in Texas. So I’m waiting a couple of weeks past our last frost date before I plant them in the ground.

Great video as always my friend, this year I ordered a dwarf Candy Crisp apple & a dwarf Granny Smith apple and they will be delivered in mid march (Chicago suburbs). This will be the 9th & 10th online bare root tree I have ordered, I love the seemingly unlimited choices when you look online. I have only had 1 tree die, it was an All-In-One Almond but it was replaced for free.

Hi Cameron, I just put four new bare root trees in my orchard. I put in cot n candy aprium, sweet treat pluerry , flavor delight aprium, royal lee and royal crimson cherry. Correction five new trees, really excited to get these but I’m concerned about chill hours. I think I get about 700 chill hours up here in Apple Valley and the royal lee only requires 200-300 hrs. Will that be a problem?

I can't tell you how many bare root fruit tree I received that has NO, NONE, ZERO NADA feeder roots. They come with 1 or 2 'main' roots that are chopped off after 4 inches or so. I don't think a single one that arrive that way take. I naturally NEVER use the nursery again. They ones that come with larger root masses usually do better. I don't understand why don't nurseries take better care. Sorry for the rant but this well done video triggered me.

I've got 60 fruit trees all planted bare root. Planting fruit trees is a unique kind of masochism. I started planting trees in 2016. Yesterday I started adding up all the trees I've lost over the years. 12. apple trees. ^$%%&# gophers aahhhgggg 2. Nectarines. Who knows why they died? 3. Plums. That's what you get for planting marginally zone appropriate trees. 6. Apricots. God just doesn't want me growing these apparently. 1. Apple and 1 peach probable KIAs this year. A 150' pine tree crashed down through my orchard during a wind storm. And now the bug is back at me and I want to plant apricots again. I swore them off. But maybe I just need to try a few more varieties. Does anybody know a therapist that specializes in agricultural based disorders?

Planted over 100 fruit trees in the spring. of the 20 plum bare root all from Raintree, 5 died. Both potted from Lowes made it and 1 from Tractor Supply for $13 did great. All bare root apricots from Raintree did fine. Of the potted 3 from Lowes, 1 died. All potted peaches fine including the $13 one from Tractor Supply. All bare root cherries from Raintree are great. Out of 6 potted from Lowes 3 died, 2 Rainier and 1 Brooks. Potted pears from Lowes fine. Of 3 potted apples from lowes, 2 died. 1 bare root persimmon from Growers Solution died. bare root fig from stark brothers did great. planted bare root fig, persimmon and paw paw from stark brothers in the fall, so we'll see. it's been a mixed bag. just got my first order of 10 bare root shade trees from TN Nursery. too cold to plant, but crossing my fingers.
