Thank you for another interesting vlog. I enjoyed seeing Carrington's paintings, which, like the recent still lives exhibition, photographed really well. I look forward to Maggi Hambling!

Thank you Wendy. The Maggi Hambling works were inspired by Nightingale song - a really interesting concept. I will hopefully get those up in the next week or so.

Holroyd's biography of Lytton Strachy actually has most affected my fascination with Carrington's practice making me most fond of her. I have sought many printed images that are now in this exhibition. The brevity of Dora's existence and the uncommon relationships that then tortured her have overshadowed the oeuvre.

That is true, and I hope that this exhibition will bring the art to the fore, allowing Carrington to step out of Strachey's shadow.

She is mentioned in the latest Almodovar film so her audience will probably expand

Minor observation, I always thought Strachey was pronounced Stray-chee... I enjoyed it more than you did: I had seen so few of her works, mainly the portrait of Lytton S. I don't thing numbers of works is so important. Perhaps fewer comments about your reservations?

I need to practise my upper class English drawl! I am glad you enjoyed the exhibition. I totally agree, it is not about quantity but in some cases I felt the quality was not as high as others. I've been to wonderful shows of, say, ten works. In fact the Courtauld shows are often rich and small. I was, as I said in the vlog, glad to have gone because, like you, I had not seen very many of works directly.

That it wasn't rich and deep was the fault of the artist. Sorry?

I guess I was trying to say that because Carrington destroyed some work and also had periods where they didn't produce, the show - being a survey or retrospective which covered their career/artistic life - was not able to be as rich or deep as it could have been. To be fair, the curators recognised that. It must have been harder to assemble this range of works than many artists of that era because there was less to work with. I'm not, by the equating quantity with quality, far from it!
