The slowing of the frozen cooked oil flow concerned me as well, but I have hands-on experience with Castrol that will prevent me from ever using anything else. Castrol is the only brand that offers a 500,000 mile / 15 year warranty running 20,000 mile oil changes. I never run my oil that long, but my oil has still been translucent after 6000 miles of heavy spirited driving. On a side note, I also use Lucas Oil Stabilizer with every oil change. @@gumps1986 in normal running condition's the parts in the engine protected by oil shouldn't actually touch, thus no wear. If you use the right spec of oil in your vehicle, and change it often enough, it shouldn't matter what oil you use. There is one caveat to that though, at startup there may not be enough oil to prevent contact, which is where the anti-wear additives come into play (they basically coat the parts is a super thin layer that can be worn off at startup then replenished afterwards) By far the most important thing is to change your oil frequently enough, If i wanted to spend more I think my money would go further with used oil analysis then buying more expensive oil.
@gumps19865 жыл бұрын

Lucas however, got my engine a 2007 Cummins ISX 15 435 HORSEPOWER after one gallon , I put half a gallon in each tank and my fuel mileage went from 5.8 to 6.2 and it idled smoother as well, every 6 months 1 gallon, keeps the performance and mileage up. To me it's worth it. The others I can't say, once I found Lucas I stayed with it. It has been a while since I used power service so it may work better now. I've been keeping up with this series from the beginning. It's been great! However as much as I feel like as a**hole for waiting this long to being it up... I think from this point on you should maybe do a 2 part lubricity test. Part 1: clean oil as you have been doing. Part 2 with it used. Maybe after a couple hours in a lawnmower just for test purposes? I feel that the effects of natural engine blowby in the oil is even more important to test rather than it's condition when new. Seeing as the engine is running on used oil more often than new. THANKS!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Project idea.... Ethanol vs Non-ethanol gas.... Non-ethanol is supposed to be better for small engines...... Is water a byproduct of burning ethanol? Leaving water in exhaust system to rust. Especially on quick trips to store where exhaust doesn't have time to heat up to operating temperature which would evaporate moisture. Non-ethanol gas costs about 30 cents per gallon more. Supposedly get better gas mileage with non-ethanol. Also non-ethanol is supposed to burn cleaner and more efficient, reducing carbon deposits.... does it? I drive 30 miles to get non-ethanol gas for my small engines and my motorcycles. Is it worth it? Thank you. We love your videos.

4 oils I expected to do well. Amsoil, Kendal, Redline and Pennzoil. Oils I expected to do poorly and I was wrong: Amazon, and Quaker State. Shockers to do poorly though? Mobil 1 and Castrol. Are my favorite oils wrong or did they really not do that badly? Right now Pennzoil's extra cost looks justified and and Amazon being so cheap looks awesome, but then user comments from hard pressed engines says Amazon isn't so stellar. Right now, price vs. quality tells me Pennzoil and only because of my probably wrong bias against Quaker State. Edit addition: The 80's and 90's and professional testing which could have been rigged all said Quaker State is no good. I thought Pennzoil bought them. That makes it make more sense!

With that said I want to say Thank You, for giving a fair, unbias, test for these products that you test. The way you break down parts of the project for people to understand is appreciated. There are some channels out there that feel like they have to curse or yell at the viewer, Thank you for not following in that path. I was just watching all of the oil tests again and thought of 2 ideas for the next test. The oil maintaining viscosity is VERY important, so after the oil is heated, frozen and the wear test is completed, have it analyzed and post the viscosity in Centistokes at 100C. A quality oil will stay in grade and remain a 30 weight, min 9.3 and max of 12.5 cSt. It shouldn’t thin to a 20 weight or thicken to a 40 weight. Second, your wear test machine has a watt meter attached. Very smart! I have worked with electric motors for 38 years and with a steady voltage, the wattage measurement will respond directly to very small load variations. I noticed in your videos that Amsoil had the smallest wear scar as well as the lowest wattage measurement of 415 watts. Oils with larger wear scars had wattages of 420 and higher, showing the oil has a lower level of wear protection, which increases the friction and load on the motor. I suggest including a graph showing each oil and it’s wattage measurement.

I know these videos are tedious and require a lot of hard work but once this series is done, I would love for you to do a high mileage edition too. I know a lot of people have cars with >75k miles and it would be great to see how the high mileage oils perform. Additionally, since you perform quantitative analysis tests, at the end of this series I would appreciate a table that compares the specific values of each test from each oil as well as the price of the oils so we can see what we're getting. It goes without saying but awesome content! All your viewers appreciate the time you give to help ensure we are getting the best product and best bang for our buck.

The next time you test the Pennzoil Platinum, you should really use the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. It has a significantly higher burn off temperature than the base Platinum according to their data sheets. Considering you’re using the top tier version of each brand, it would make sense to use the top tier version of Pennzoil. I’m just imagining the comments if the base Platinum loses to Red Line or potentially Amsoil in the finals: “yOu DiDn’T uSe ThE uLtRa PlAtInUm!” It can be hard to find in stores but you can easily buy it online for the same price if not cheaper than the stores. (There would be no reason to rerun the test with Lucas because Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is just a better version of the Platinum.) Anyways, great video as always 👍
