I've grown up in and now work in downtown Chicago. I think Kate's account is quite accurate. On major streets, I sometimes experience people coming up and asking me for things and it can sometimes become uncomfortable, but not dangerous. Most neighborhoods are good. There are places that actually quite dangerous, but Kate's right that you would ever go to those places under any normal circumstances. When I was in high school, I went to one of those areas with some christian missionaries and a shootout suddenly erupted just across the street from me.

I'm from Chicago, and I disagree. There have been more than a few serious crimes committed along Michigan Avenue within the last couple of years. Also, as far as neighborhoods being safe... Some of the "gentrifying" neighborhoods are not safe at all. I'm referring to Pilsen. Driving through, it looks nice- old people out watering lawns, kids riding bikes. The gang problem is huge though, and I know this from experience. Some of the young professionals moving in have no idea what they're getting into.

Idk if you know what you’re getting into with this comment! Yes there are dangerous neighborhoods in the city but those including the ones you mention are a very small portion of the city as a whole. Most the city is safe like the video says.

@@vaishx you are wrong. Michigan Avenue as well as the north side are not safe. Pilsen is definitely not safe, although most of the crime there is directed to fellow gang members. You can't say in Chicago anymore, that only certain neighborhoods are "dangerous."
