As someone from Philly, I genuinely appreciate this comprehensive review, few travel vloggers decided to come here and review because of the bad reputation mostly related to Kensington. Also, you got to watch a play at the Walnut Street Theatre.

Best part about the Reading Terminal market is that no chain stores are allowed. You have to be an independent small business to operate in the terminal.

Philadelphia is such an underrated city, glad you made it back! Tip for your next visit -- you can ride any SEPTA Regional Rail train from the 30th Street Station to any of the three Center City stations for free with your Amtrak ticket! Just show the conductor on board any train headed eastbound. In your case, you could ride to Jefferson Station and exit through the Reading Terminal headhouse... which was right across the street from where that bus dropped you in the rain, lol. Anyway, glad your visit was worthwhile and enjoyed watching!

Forced to move I now live in Flourtown and now see the scumbags on quads on Bethlehem pk and also in Lafayette hill coming out of city. Now moving again because I can see the lib bullshit starting in local gov. This kid failed to mention, white women getting punched in face and beaten during school year, almost on a daily basis, news stopped reporting it because its just common occurrence. @@PatrickMichaelBshhh I actually love how poorly portrayed Philly is in the media. It keeps the rent LOW. Cities like Philly, Chicago, Baltimore, Richmond, Milwaukee, Providence, Cincinnati, and Cleveland are the last bastions of affordable walkability in the United States. And that is thanks in large part to the poor public perception of those cities by crybaby fear-mongers from the suburbs. The moment people realize how incredible these cities are, there will be a rent-hike and soon there will be NOWHERE left in the US to live if you want to live somewhere that is both walkable/pro-urban and affordable.

This video starts at the Lancaster Amtrak Station! I lived in York for 2 years and the best part of York was that it was only 35 minutes away from Lancaster. I Live in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philly and I love it here. We get such a bad rap because of the way the TV sensationalizes the crime that occurs in certain neighborhoods. I seriously have family members who "Worry for my safety" and refuse to visit because they think it's so dangerous here, whereas I live in a nicer neighborhood than their neighborhood in the suburbs. This city is unique in that you don't need a lot of money to live comfortably here. It's a multicultural city that brings with it multicultural food options that are absolutely amazing! Bustleton Ave and Castor Ave in the Northeast have amazing Latin American and Middle Eastern food joints to choose from. The best pound cake in the region is Stocks on Lehigh Ave. We have the best hoagies and cheesesteaks. We have pizza that compares to the best in New York, in Barstool Pizza Reviews own words. This city is fantastic just the way it is.

Don’t pay any attention to the negative comments. Every city has its problems and bad neighborhoods. Born and raised in the city and worked in Centre City for over 40 years. I was born in Philly and lived there for 30 years (until work took me to LA.) I try to get back every year or so. The best cheesesteaks are at Dallesandro's in Roxborough or John's Roast Pork in South Philly. Both are worth the trip from wherever you're staying in the city. Jim's Steaks on South Street was always very good, but they had a fire and will be reopening. Reading T market is also awesome. Avoid tourist traps like Pat's and Geno's. What a shame about Kensington. I worked there in my first job as a teenager in the 70s. It was very blue collar but not the horrible skid row junkie hell that it became. I sure hope the mayor is able to clean it up.

It's mainly from people who wish to remain blind to America's problems. Philly is unapologetic about its suffering and poverty. Yes it may be uncomfortable at times but it's a lot more uncomfortable being the people hurting the most. I love Philly with all my heart and will not leave it just because I have to sometimes see people suffering more than I would ever be capable of. Our city gets a bad rap because we do not hide our problems, we put them in the open and I think that does a lot to show the humanity in it.

Old city has all of the antique shops and luxury furniture boutiques like Roche Bobois and Minima. Longwood gardens a 30 minutes from the city is a botanical garden next to heaven. Lastly, americas 1st penitentiary And americas 1st zoo are top tier. I always get a Hershel's corned beef reuben when I am down in Reading Terminal, Philly from NYC. Best deli in the world. Worked in Center City for 2 years, I absolutely love Philly and the people there. It's like NY was in the 90s and has some stunning colonial architecture and some of the best food in the US. I found the people to be so friendly and proud of their city.

I live in Philly and I have heard of that Brauhaus so it looks like I need to check it out next time I am down that way. The next trip time you are here there are some places not far from where you were at that you should hightlight such as Rittenhouse Square and Penns Landing. I also like the area around City Hall on the west and south sides. I think that a trip to the University City section would also be cool. Lots to see over there. FYI ... there has been an uptick in people moving to Philly especially Center City. Surprise, surprise 15% are coming from NYC ...

Philadelphia is an awesome place to live. What makes living in the northeast cities so wonderful are not the sparkling buildings and new trains, but the opportunities to achieve a better life. Philadelphia has wonderful attractions, sports of every kind, world class museums and symphonic orchestra as well as excellent restaurants. You can find food from every country of the world. There also are some of the best hospitals and universities in the USA. But what makes the big cities (and almost every place) in the USA wonderful are the freedom and the opportunities. You can be raised very poor and grow up to have a very good life. Yes, there are bad neighborhoods and racism. I am Hispanic and black and I have faced discrimination in the USA as well as in my travels abroad. Asia is building wonderful new cities because they are new. The cities of the Northeast and Midwest are old and full of historical buildings. Every place has good and bad aspects to it.

I would'nt recommend walking around Philadelphia at night time especially being that you're a tourist. It is a beautiful City but it's also extremely dangerous and high crime. If you ride the subway, El train or Septa bus, your life is in danger. I've lived in Philadelphia since I was born. The City has become so dangerous that I either travel by car or by Regional Rail. I will not get on a Septa bus. People have been shot on buses and at bus stops. The El is full of drug addicts constantly harassing patrons for money. Fights break out on the train, people shooting up out in the open. Who wants to deal with it? Your video shows a nice picture of Philadelphia but the reality of Philadelphia is much different. It is an extremely dangerous and violent city. The area on the video is a tourist area which is designed to be nice for tourists. So, yeah it's worth visiting. I just would not walk around Philadelphia at night time nor would I ride any public transportation except regional rail and Amtrak. It's quite upsetting to be honest to be frightened to not to go out at night for fear of being assaulted and robbed.

Philadelphia is mostly an ugly city through neglect. A hundred years ago when all the North Philadelphia row houses were new, the place was actually not hideous. It's that decorative woodwork that putrefies through time and lack of maintenance. Pittsburgh on the other hand is hideous by design. Four-story shacks clinging for dear life on precarious hillsides where the attic is the ground floor. Vicious little shantytowns surrounding gigantic steel mills. Now Pennslyvania's two book-ends have achieved a kind of equality of ugliness.

I'm from Philly hence the 215 in my name, I moved for a job and as soon as I could I moved my azz back. Philly gets a bad rap, it has regular city problems like all cities. But it also doesn't have some of the problems other cities have. I have a lot of neighbors from NYC and they love it, they said Philly reminds them of what NYC use to be, but they left NYC for a whole host of problems happening in NYC. I've never felt unsafe in the city, even in the so-called bad parts. Now I've been to places like New Orleans where I was itching to get out of certain neighborhoods. I'm happy I moved back but damn the cost of living has gone up here like crazy.

@@mt-ec4uflol the walk from somewhere like old city/queens village/fairmount to the market is almost completely safe. Everyone should exercise caution literally anywhere in this country, but it’s not a hellscape at all. It’s like 10 blocks and the crime rate in that area isn’t anything like Kensington or actual bad areas. It’s wild how perception shapes how people talk about cities. For instance Nashville has a worse crime rate than Philly, yet since it’s a slightly more republican-leaning southern city no one EVER talks about crime. You’re far more likely to be a victim of crime on Broadway in Nashville than you would in any area in Center City Philly. Yet people don’t even realize Nashville is more dangerous than Philly and NYC (literally twice as dangerous as NYC), because people associate Nashville with conservatives and assume it’s a safe place. So people just talk about the music scene and the culture. Which makes the medias obsession with crime in Philly all the more confusing.

Philadelphia is a city full of history, culture, and surprises. There are many things in Philadelphia that people never knew or are not what they think. Here are some examples: - Philadelphia is home to the **Mural Arts Program**, the nation's largest public arts program, which started as an anti-graffiti initiative and now adds as many as 100 works of art to the city every year. - Philadelphia has a statue of **Rocky Balboa** at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which is one of the top attractions in the city. But there are also other Rocky and Creed landmarks, such as the headstones of Rocky's wife Adrian and her brother Paulie at Laurel Hill Cemetery. - Philadelphia is known for its cheesesteaks, but it also has another delicious sandwich: the **roast pork sandwich**, which consists of oven-roasted pork shoulder, melted provolone cheese, and garlicky broccoli rabe on a sesame seed roll. - Philadelphia was the first city in the US to have a **hospital**, a **zoo**, a **medical school**, and a **stock exchange**. - Philadelphia has a museum that displays pieces of **Einstein's brain** along with over 100 skulls. It is called the **Mutter Museum**, and it is a collection of medical oddities and curiosities. - Philadelphia is the birthplace of **American Bandstand**, a popular music TV show that was hosted by Dick Clark and featured rock and roll stars from 1957 to 1989. - Philadelphia has a **Japanese house and garden** called Shofuso, which is a traditional-style house that was built in Japan in 1953 and shipped to Philadelphia in 1958. It is located in Fairmount Park and is open to the public. - Philadelphia has a **skyline park** called Cira Green, which is a 1.25-acre elevated green space that offers panoramic views of the city and the Schuylkill River. It is located on top of a parking garage and hosts events such as yoga, movies, and concerts. - Philadelphia has a **secret speakeasy** called The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., which is a cocktail bar that is hidden behind an unmarked door on a busy street. It is inspired by the Prohibition era and serves inventive drinks in a cozy atmosphere. - Philadelphia has a **giant clothespin** sculpture in the center of the city, which is a 45-foot-tall steel and aluminum artwork by Claes Oldenburg. It is located near City Hall and is said to symbolize the love between the artist and his wife. These are just some of the things that make Philadelphia a unique and fascinating city. You can visit Philadelphia yourself and discover its hidden gems. 😊

If you go to visit Pennsylvania, spend some time far from Philadelphia. While Philadelphia IS a historic city and places like Center City and Society Hill, near Independence Mall, are must sees...a lot of the rest of Philadelphia is a mess. Our current Governor, Joke Shapiro, refused to prosecute rioters who trashed shopping districts. The Philadelphia district attorney ought to be disbarred. He doesn't prosecute property crimes. You can find videos of peopke walking into a Walgreens with a Hefty bag and walking out with it filled up. Im near Pittsburgh, which has a woke idiot for a mayor. Hurts to say it but don't bother with Pittsburgh unless you enjoy secondhand smoke.

The crime porn tv channels get too much attention. That's part of PHL's problem nationally. Prior mayor Ed Rendell used to complain about those stations and their negativity back in the 90s!!

Looks like a pretty under rated place to me. New York and Boston tend to get more cred than Philly when you are talking large east coast cities. Thanks for showing us that it has a lot going for it as well.

Boston is actually pretty small in comparison to Philly (Philly is double the population.) NYC and DC get the attention, for obvious reasons. Philadelphia is smacked in the middle of the two most important cities in the US (financial and political hubs.)

I've lived in all the NE/mid-Atlantic "megalopolis" cities and have traveled extensively in the US (and abroad), and in my opinion, Philly is by far the best city in the US. I freaking love San Diego and ANY town on a Hawai'i island, but those places aren't livable for the vast majority of us $$$$. If I had to pick one US city to live in, my answer is 100% Philly. My personal qualifications for "best" are history, livability, food, art, and the realness/support/acceptance of my neighbors who would cut a b*tch for me if I needed them to, without asking. Philly ISN'T NICE, but Philadelphians are the kindest.

Ugh. I live about 10 minutes from Kensington and I never have to drive through there. It’s so annoying to hear people talk about a section of a section of a neighborhood, in the city that people have never even been to. Side note: we just swore in a new mayor and she is trying to fix the issue that our previous mayor created.

My German relatives came for the mummers parade . They were blown away . The mounted police ,kids in 76ers gear , they were delighted by Philly. They think we carry cases of beer around regularly!! The El on New years going to the parade was a blast !

All you did was talk about center city where all the tourists go. Take a trip to North Philly or West Philly. Thats the real city of Philadelphia.
