You can always tell when people who claim that they know Christ aren't filled with the Holy Ghost that never fast, pray meditate, follow and obey scriptures nor pattern their lifestyles after Jesus to have power over the devil and his attacks. They will always end up on forums and platforms like this talking about n absolutely nothing. Jesus said it best "you will know a tree by the fruit it bears" And the apostle Paul said "that God is not author of confusion but of peace (not mental health) in all th saints throughout the church.

Is Christianity bad for our mental health? Yes, it can be bad for our mental health because Christianity as a religion is not of the Bible and that could lead a person with misdirected faith into a state of dis-ease. But... 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. As a student pursuing my masters in licensed and family therapy, this was absolutely awesome. Listening to you all was a breath of fresh air. I am thankful for this calling as a Christian will become a LMFT. There is such a need in various communities, especially the church. What has been eye opening is the ongoing topic of integrating Christian counseling and psychology. I think, from a Christian and mental health student, psychology is spiritual as God created us.

I am grateful for this conversation and I am praying about coming to the conference in rebuilding faith. I have to say this: I have watched halfway, and I am a bit frustrated with Dr. Moss’ answer to one question. I fully recognize his credentials and acumen in his field, but the young man is asking WHY God allows suffering to continue sometime back to back and it feels as if he is offering “deep” answers that aren’t answering the question. I believe God allows it to GROW us and increase our TRUST in Him. Romans 8:28. Sorry if that seems too simplified to some. I plan to continue to watch. Blessings to ALL! 🙏🏽☝🏽✝️

I think we’re deceived when we we equate true biblical Christianity with… Church folk- Big hats and bad doctrine- Catholicism- 7th day Mormon Jehovah Witnesses Religion. Christ was not religious. Religion is what you do when you’d rather listen to man than to God. Jesus yelled at no one in the Bible. Except for religious leaders. They thought they were serving God by their made up new rules that changed like the weather. Do not confuse Christianity with the behavior of “religious folks.” True Christian’s live by faith! That means we believe that which is proclaimed in the only official authorized source of information about Christ that there is. The Bible.

Matthew 11:28 " Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I'll give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am Meek and lowly in heart: and ye Shall find Rest for your Souls.' Psalms 94:19 "In the multitude of my thoughts, your delights comfort my soul". Jeremiah 8:22, “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any mighty miracles among them”, Luke was a great evangelist and was also a physician. Clearly God desires for us to seek healing through him first, but will also use science / medicine to address our physical and mental ailments. Christ-centered Christianity is not harmful to mental health; On the other hand dogmatic legalistic Christianity is detrimental to mental health.

Christ is the Sabbath. I agree, we are busy. But, we also overspend, overconsume, and live rebellious against God's word. Much of the suffering is self-inflicted. We need to properly identify the origin of our suffering. A lot of this suffering comes from our bad choices, and some suffering comes from places outside of us. There are things that occur that we do not control. Why are we talking to pastors on this panel? Much of the counseling that has taken place in the church community has been done through pastoral ministry. Why are we not noting Scripture passages that identify how to maintain healthy mental health?

@rogergambrell7492
@rogergambrell7492 Жыл бұрын
@@daydreamerz The Sabbath means "rest." The ultimate rest is not physical, but spiritual. Rest for the soul, see Matthew 11:28-30; Hebrews 4:1. Now to answering your question, even if you observe the Sabbath, that does not make you righteous. Unless you possess the righteouness of God, you can not rest. So the Sabbath has no meaning or basis outside of trusting in Christ for the forgiveness of your sins (Romans 3:20 - 31).

This is why Paul tells us to study sound doctrine, most teachers and professors don’t believe in God or the doctrine of God. Study to show thyself approved unto God. John Gray said he finds theology of God asinine, how dare we try to put God in a box. I would say that statement makes him unqualified to preach/teach God has revealed certain things to us but the secret things belong to Him. God’s word is absolute which in turn heals our minds if we’re in Christ renew your mind in God’s word daily.

When you have heart problems you go see a heart specialist, iron challenges you go see a hematologist, eye challenges you go see a ophthalmologist, overall if something is going wrong with your organs, blood, etc you must see a M.D who specializes in that area to survive. Now when it comes to Mental Health many are resistant not realizing that God created these specialties to take care of the human body! He also created the field Mental health to help take care of the mind! The mind is where the battle field lies! So if you pay someone to take care of the parts of your body that needs healing but the deny your mind the healing it needs you eventually deny the body what it needs. Your past experiences show up in your daily walk regardless of how you try to mask it! A counselor helps you to face you and see you! You can’t leave the past behind if you do not have the tools to let go of the past counseling is where it will happen. God is in the counseling experience! He knows what you need but do you accept or recognize that you need help! If you trust God to heal you through the heart specialist then surely you can trust him to do all things with clinical help as well!❤

As a BLACK man, this commenter thinks that the appropriate answer to this question must be an astounding “YES”. Although Christian apologists resort to different sorts of revisionist theories to justify Christianity, the history of the religion should leave no doubt that it has never served the interests of BLACK People and could only be regarded as being utterly bad for members of the BLACK Race. Most Black theologians, intellectuals, and professionals in all of the many fields speak with great conviction about Christianity in the manner in which someone who was taught by someone who was taught by someone else who believes in the doctrines of the faith. And this should come as no surprise because after spending some seven years in seminary to obtain a PhD in Theology, the need to ensure that one has a dependable means of providing for one’s family takes precedence over everything else. Moreover, since most black people in the West and in many parts of Mother AFRICA have been brought up as Christians, divorcing oneself from that kind of cultivated mindset becomes extremely difficult and even impossible. In her book POST TRAUMATIC SLAVE SYNDROME, Dr. Joy DeGruy argues that the psychological impact of enslavement has been just as severe on the minds of succeeding generations as it was in the case of our ancestors. This point has been convincingly corroborated by a study conducted by Duke University that concluded that while the process of domesticating puppies of dogs has become routine, it is almost impossible to domesticate the puppies of wolves. In other words, Christianity, Islam, and other foreign belief systems have been so effective in disfiguring the minds of the AFRICAN People that most of us (Black people) cannot see the folly that we ourselves commit. Suffice it to say that the reputed Jewish rabbi called Jesus had absolutely nothing to do with the founding and establishment of Christianity. To the contrary, the reputed Jesus was born a Jew, lived as a Jew, led a failed revolt against the Roman authorities on behalf of Jews, and died as a Jew. When the young rabbi leader was executed by the Roman authorities on a charge of sedition against the state, another young Jew called Saul of Tarsus (aka The Apostle Paul) grabbed the opportunity to curry favor with the Roman authorities and became one of the most nefarious operatives in the effort to suppress any and every form of Jewish rebellion (Acts 7: 54-60 KJV). Being the megalomaniac that Paul was, he eventually lost favor with the Roman authorities and subsequently formed his own movement through which he sought to appease his former bosses and save his own skin (Romans 13: 1- 7). Paul called his new movement Christianity and he distinguished its purpose by ceasing and desisting from any recognition of the reputed Jesus as a Jewish liberator or messiah. Instead, Paul was intent on portraying Jesus as the Christ or Saviour of non-Jews or Gentiles. Although Paul had never been in the company of Jesus and although his so-called epiphany on the road to Damascus has never been independently corroborated, he anointed himself an apostle of Jesus and he misappropriated Jesus’s mission by preaching a message of redemption by faith rather than on good works, as Jesus had taught (Ephesians 2: 8- 9; Luke 21: 1 -4; Luke 10: 27-37). Paul was so successful in brainwashing his followers that by 313 AD, the Roman Emperor Constantine I adopted Christianity (hook, line, and sinker) as a mechanism for maintaining law and order within the Roman Empire (the Edict of Milan). Thus emerged the new institution called the Roman Catholic Church with the idolatrous CHRISTOLOGICAL DOCTRINE as the main tenet of the faith. It was through the atrocities committed in the name of the Roman Catholic Church that the Roman Empire was able to extend its hegemony throughout the four corners of the earth. By the middle of the 16 century AD, the English King James I (of Guy Fawkes’ renown) boldly took a page from Constantine's book, and with the aid of his best friend William Shakespeare, wrote his own version of the Bible (KJV) as a means of justifying the Doctrine of the Divine Rights of Kings…and as they say, the rest is history. It is informative to note that the Islamic belief system had a similar imperialistic modus operandi and spread in a similar manner across the continent of Africa and elsewhere. Meanwhile, the days of the descendants of Paul, Constantine, King James I, and other European Christian imperialists and colonialists using chains and shackles to enslave and disfigure the minds of Black People might no longer be the order of the day. But just as advertisers have discovered that the IMAGE of a dog sitting behind the steering wheel of a car can go a long way in persuading consumers to purchase a particular product, the powers-that-be in Christianity are fully cognizant of the debilitating effect that images of a white Jesus, the representation of innocence and purity through white objects, and the representation of sin and evil through black objects can and does have on BLACK minds. Such, therefore, are this commenter’s grounds for insisting that Christianity could never be good for the mental health of Black people. And since a wrecking ball could never be truly efficacious in doing the work of a hammer, it is incumbent on every BLACK man, woman, and child to emancipate themselves from Christianized mental “slavery” and to embrace other home-grown alternatives for satisfying their spiritual concerns and mental health. It is in this context, therefore, that this commenter is relentless in advocating that BLACK People are again at a juncture in history that demands the invention of a new vehicle for articulating our COLLECTIVE experience, hopes, and aspirations as children of GOD (THE COSMIC ONE) and that the fledgling Philosophy of RASTAFARI is long overdue for serious reconsideration. As an antidote to the venom of the Christian, Islamic, and other foreign belief systems, the Philosophy of RASTAFARI is a DIALECTICAL SYNTHESIS of the lives and teachings of His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie I, The Right Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey, President Kwame Nkrumah, Brother Malcolm X, and so many other enlightened BLACK personalities who have shown a genuine concern for the global plight of our RACE. And because the Rastafarian Movement is barely 90 years young, there is every hope that RASTAFARI will continue to grow from strength to strength and manifest as the greatest INVENTION of BLACK people in the current epoch.

It's terrible for mental health, because it wasn't written by God. It hasn't gotten us black people nowhere, and we've been using it for over 2000 years. If something is effective, you could see it as well as feel it. I certainly don't feel it, and those of us who is out here in it every day, can't see 👀 it. Christianity is just providing false hope. Looks like we're going to wait until a whole race is decimated before we get it figured out. Trying to make the Bible and Christianity be the answer when it's clearly not. It mostly benefits the preacher. Take a good look at our homes, streets, schools, communities, families. Everything is falling apart. We've become slaves again. Where is the Mental health counselors/experts?

@@jimmiemorrison6782 1. You give the man to much credit, to think that the bible came from him and not God. No man in the flesh in the past can predict something back then, to happen in our time, unless he be God in the flesh. No you and many have erred in the scriptures. 2. Many people make bad decisions in their life, which may hinder their progress to get to places. While others, even immigrants may make better choices. Now I know the power structures may seem or be unfair at times. But if we trust God, work honestly, and be content, we will find ourselves in better situations, and fortunate then many others. The guy who claims that pastors need to call in therapists is angry and needs to check himself. Pastors counsel the church every Sunday and Wednesday from the Scriptures. Yes, we need therapists, but pastors have been treating God's people with the Scriptures for all time. Yes, many preachers mishandle the Scriptures, but that's a separate issue. God's counsels and the Holy Spirit is the greatest therapists. That does mean meds are not necessary in certain cases, but please stop downing the Bible and the church. Stop over generalizing the entire body of Christ mistreating mental health issues.

May I offer this? Unless your pastor/leader is trained in professional counseling, and they are purposefully integrating that into what they do from the pulpit, they are not counseling. Of course, the work they do teaching the Word is critical, and their work in actively caring for souls cannot be undervalued. But, professional counseling is a different thing entirely. We desperately need to call in the therapists; there is work to be done, starting with our leaders.
