Heinlein, Starship Troopers "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. I'm a Viet Nam Era vet and former Police Officer. In 2008 I went of tour of 28 military bases throughout our republic with a Gulf War (1), Air Force Para-Rescue operator. We sat in with groups of active-duty military men and women, some who had just returned home from theaters all around the world, discussing current trends and events. We would then meet them in EM, NCO, and Officer Clubs later to chat with them informally. We got to know overall how they felt about the direction we were heading. All were concerned in one way or another. A few years later, an alarming poll had been taken within the military, asking members if they would in fact fire on our own countrymen if so ordered, or required under Martial Law. At that time approximately 25% responded that they would. What a change! The video of the soldier spouting off, is old and has seen its milage on KZbin as you mentioned. But if you think it can't happen, in my lifetime I have seen an armed force used on their own people, here is a brief study of history I have lived through: During the 1970 student protests at Kent State, National Guard troops were calling in to "subdue" the students, resulting in troops firing upon, and killing four students, and wounding nine more. All were unarmed. In 1973 I experienced Martial Law in the Philippians. Watching armed military and police use deadly force (shoot people), firing on curfew violators, and their own citizens that violated the mandated laws put into place by dictatorial leadership. in 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, a "State of Emergency" was declared to control looting and other issues. The Military, and Police were authorized to use deadly force (again, shoot people). On record, 11 people were shot during this time. At the same time, Constitutional rights were thrown under the bus in the name of public safety and welfare. Stories about private citizens having personal valuables, food, water, firearms, and other supplies confiscated surfaced. In one evidence locker alone, over 500 firearms were kept and not returned, it is estimated that thousands of firearms, from private citizens had been taken. We do not want to lose the ability to protect our lives, our families, and our rights of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness". If we don't pull our heads out from under the sand, and become involved in current events, we could face the inner self-imploding of Martial Law, Civil War 2.0, and the possibility of our great republic as we know it becoming a past tense. Not from enemies from the outside, but from infiltration, and our own selves from within. We need to put aside all of this political nonsense and re-unite as a nation, before we no longer have one. WE DO NOT WANT MARTIAL LAW TO BE IMPOSED HERE.

The United States military wouldn't stand a snowball chance in hell of handling a true Civil War in the United States. With the retired and patriotic population of law enforcement and veterans and the availability of weaponry in this country and the ability to blend in where people live, there is absolutely no way they could do anything.

Total active duty, reserves, guard, and police combined by 2023 numbers in the US is 3,190,759. Only 30% of those are trained combat troops. If you combine every military in the world together, the US population is still the largest armed army in the world. Something else to think about, all of the military's bullets, parts, equipment, and weapons are made by civilians. All of the military's bases are supplied with food, fuel, water, etc by civilians. Also, where do you think their bases are located and surrounded by? Civilians, right next door.

The revolution was started on April 19th 1775 when the British marched on Lexington and Concord to seize the towns' arms and cannon as a 'precaution'. It took 20 years of tension building before that happened. The Boston massacre, Boston Tea Party and the Stamp Act all happened first. It will take a similar outrage now. July 13th probably came close to being that moment.

When 0bama was elected, my brother's Air Guard unit's NCO pulled all the enlisted together and read them the riot act about not following illegal orders, and dealing with any officer that tried to issue illegal or unconstitutional orders. Another friend in the Army Guard said he got the same talk from his NCOs.
@denisdegamon82242 ай бұрын
I am also an ex Army Infantry Officer, and wondered about this very issue. I know we were taught this in both our basic training, Infantry Officers Basic Course. I personally had conversations with my higher ranking NCO's on this topic. All of our troops, from all branches of the service took an oath to the Constitution, not to the government. All of these others need to understand that, that oath had no expiration date. And unto all those that violate their Oaths of Office, take heed... you now become the domestic enemy in said oath.

The impact on the economy, food distribution, energy distribution, communication systems, and health systems would be substantial. I'm estimating the death rate in the US would probably go from 2.8 million a year to possibly as high as 10 million a year. NATO or UN troops would be invited to defend the east and west coast cities, and spread from there. But immigration would probably go down. Yah, I've thought about it. I've been writing some future fiction abuot such.

I don't know about the other branches, but while I was in the Navy, every enlisted from the bottom to the top had a mandatory survey every couple months that only had two questions on it: "Would you fire on US civilians if ordered to?" and "In the event of a civil war in the US, would you stay at your duty station or go home?". Assuming everyone answered truthfully, the US government has been keeping tabs on this issue for a long time now and are aware of what they would most likely have to deal with. This is anecdotal, but based on myself and the people I served with, the vast majority would go home and join their state or local militia and would ignore any orders to fire on US civilians. I honestly don't think a civil war would go well for whatever side opposes the "true Americans", whether it shakes down to be a civil war based on class or income bracket or whatever. Either way I know it won't be based on race.
