Video summary: 1- It makes you feel energized. 2- Over-roasting it can produce toxic chemicals. Opt for medium roast. 3- Take caffeine breaks every 4-6 weeks. 4- Decaf coffee uses chemicals unless they use some swiss method.

I don’t drink much coffee and replaced my morning drink with matcha tea. I’ll have a cup of coffee once in awhile but I really don’t like the feeling I get if I have too many. I probably have 2 cups a month now. Thanks for the informative video, Mona!

I really enjoyed this informative video Dr. Vand! As a college student, I am so reliant on caffeine, especially caffeine from coffee. I have recently decreased my caffeine consumption from coffee because I was getting headaches if I would not drink it religiously every day. I started drinking Yerba Mate which is a tea, brewed from yerba mate leaf extract which has naturally occurring caffeine! It provides me more clear energy in comparison to caffeine from coffee and I do not experience a withdrawal when I do not drink it. It has 160 mg of caffeine per can, which is equivalent to around 1.6 cups of coffee. I recommend Yerba Mate as a caffeine alternative, it is amazing!! Also, I am a biochemistry major and I loved to hear your scientific explanation behind caffeine. I did not know that decaf coffee uses chemical solvents to remove the caffeine. I am familiar with methylene chloride (dichloromethane) and it is a solvent used in paint strippers and a solvent in the manufacturer of drugs. Incredible video, thank you so much!

I was never a huge coffee drinker until I tried a macchiato. So I started making my own daily. 2 shots of espresso, added dark roast coffee & plenty of almond milk creamer. Thanks to Mona, I switched to Dandy Blend. GAME CHANGER. I still add the almond milk creamer but only that & the dandy blend. It’s sooo delicious & comes with only benefits! Thanks once again Mona 💜

It’s so true about the carcinogens forming with more roasting and decaf is usually made with low quality beans and extracted with solvents.

Years ago when I was in high school, I became so dependent on coffee. I would have at least 5 cups a day and was still so tired. Well now I know why I could take a nap directly after consuming so much caffeine!

Every one is going to say drink it. I love you so just do your own research. If its not healthy you will eventually get used to the alternative which could be tea, lemon water, or a veggie/fruit smoothie. I gave up coffee pretty easily because its just not worth it. Especially with sugar and milk

Just switched to dark roast a few weeks ago, lol. Guess I'll go back to medium roast. However, I absolutely love Yerba Mate.. makes me alert, focused, energetic and it also has this amazing ability to keep me calm, unlike coffee which makes me [more] irritable.

That’s amazing Dr. Mona! I had a flavored hot cocoa yesterday which contains 5 mg on avg of caffeine and then the Irish cream cold brew from Starbucks today. The hot cocoa made my stomach nauseous but the cold brew is less acidic

Can you please specify what you mean by "toxic" and "chemicals" in future videos? those words don't really mean anything. Also you forgot to mention that coffee is one of the highest sources of antioxidants for humans -- which is disease fighting and vital for us. the "cancerous" traits you talked about are rly unfounded and even the animal claims are only correlations and sparse in research. Also caffeine is fabulous for boosting metabolism. I do think caffeine can be problematic for people prone to anxiety, but for most people, 1-2 cups of black coffee per day is extremely beneficial for your body ☕

I've always read that coffee/caffeine, like alcohol, stimulates by constricting the arteries, creating energy (also dehydration). I guess along with the adenosine. I've been making my own cold brew for the last 3 years which tastes so much better than hot brew. I'm slowly weaning from coffee, replacing with green or matcha tea. One way to find out if you drink too much coffee is to stop. If you get a bad headache (detoxing) might be time for a break. I now only take a few sips & I'm energized. I've also read coffee is good for the liver/bad for the liver...? Wonder if Ben says anything on that?

so interesting! For some reason coffee gives me immediate headaches, but I really like the taste of it. I drink black tea instead. I wonder how adenosine receptors respond differently to black tea.
